M.C. Records is proud to announce they'll be releasing "Rise and Fall" by genre outlaw Dayna Kurtz on March 31. This marks the 2nd recording that Dayna and M.C. Records have released together. In 2013 M.C. Records issued her R&B recording, Secret Canon Vol. 2 to critical acclaim.

Rise and Fall, is Dayna's first album of originals in 4 years. Says Kurtz, "This album is the most like (debut) Postcards From Downtown in that it covers such a long span of collected original material. Rise and Fall covers these last few years of my life and they were pretty heavy years; My father died, my marriage ended. I moved to New Orleans. I had a couple years of wild oat-sowing and then found a grand new love. There’s been a lot to think about, to write about.”

With roots in New Jersey, a lengthy New York City past, and her time now divided between her family’s cabin on a river in Vermont, and a home on another river in New Orleans, she is an entirely American creature -yet her greatest successes and most regular touring have happened in in theaters and rock clubs in European cities such as Barcelona and Amsterdam.

She had a top 10 hit song in the Netherlands with the gorgeous and beguiling, "Love Gets in the Way." She has toured with Richard Thompson, Elvis Costello, Richie Havens, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Dr. John, Rufus Wainright and Mavis Staples. She’s recorded a duet with Norah Jones, and both Ms. Jones and Bonnie Raitt have sung her praises in interviews. Urban/Contemporary Gospel artist Reginald MaGee has released his album, entitled "Pressing On." Although this is not his first recording, with 13 hard hitting tracks (available in both EP and CD formats), it is his first solo album.

MaGee began singing at age 4 in the Sunshine Band at Emanuel COGIC, his mother's church in northern Indiana, and credits his faith to "a God fearing mother and a hard working father." He continued to sing throughout his childhood, as a teen, in college, and in various other choirs, groups, and praise teams. Much of his adult experience has been as a praise and worship leader or music director in churches.

Commenting on why "Pressing On" is different than other gospel CDs, MaGee said, "Lyrically speaking, the CD is very broad. It deals with a lot of difference topics. In fact, one of the songs addresses domestic violence. There's a lot of compassion and grace in the songs. Musically speaking, it's very urban and is set against a very solid Christian theme, but it's not just a praise and worship album. In 2005, she was showcased at Earth Mother Mind Jam in Tempe, AZ, the Putt Putt Pub Crawl in St. Louis, MO, and the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA. In May 2006, Mary won honorable mention in the R&B/Hip-Hop category of the Song of the Year Contest.

Mary earned a Music/Business Administration degree from Millikin University, a certification in audio engineering from the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences, and an MBA in e-Business from the University of Phoenix. She is the Chicago coordinator for Songsalive!, an international songwriting organization. British Hip-Hop band, Credit To The Nation, are set for an eagerly awaited return this summer, with the release of a new single in August, and full length album to follow.

Formed by Matthew “Matty” Hanson, aka MC Fusion, the group made a commercial impact in the early nineties with a slew of political hits. Remarkably for a Hip-Hop group, all Credit To The Nation singles reached number 1 in the Melody Maker and NME independent label charts. This gathered the band a large indie following, which saw them tour with acts such as the Manic Street Preachers, and perform live at The Glastonbury NME stage (’94), Phoenix Festival (‘94/95), and the Reading Festival Melody Maker Stage (’94).

The album, which is not just a return to form, but a reinvention of the signature sound, features up-and-coming singer/songwriter Nathan White and label mate Charly Vox. Not to mention collaborations with Chuck D (Public Enemy) and Sadat X (Brand Nubian), which reflects the respect Credit holds within the urban community and American artists.

The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton, UK will host the bands first show in eight years on 15th May, along with dub trance heavyweights, Dreadzone. Credit are also confirmed to play ‘Endorse it in Dorset’ on 8th August.

"The new music video for Rat Race, from the UK based soul/hip-hop outfit Kaya is an in your face no nonsense dance party with a message. Shot in a single small room blanketed in old posters and graffiti, the video shows the band in their natural element. Rappers Aina and Natty rhyme about the inequities of the tax structure and the importance of working for the love and not for the money. This song has a sticky hook tied together with catchy horn lines and a number of clever verses that the band performs as they act out their words. Aina sings about working a 10-6 job as she sits, clearly frustrated, behind a desk crowded with papers and a fax machine. She vows there to turn over a new leaf. Kaya released the video for Rat Race to warm us up for their new record due to drop in August 2010."

Denver based Jersey Bounce Productions has released the controversial video for the hit hip-hop single "Snake Chama" featuring Avenue Ty and Breezo. The erotically charged video features both Avenue Ty and Breezo as well as some of the hottest belly dancers in the world. Avenue Ty (Julius Williams)
Julius Williams, AKA Avenue Ty, was born into the street Hip- Hop culture of south-side Chicago and began writing lyrics at the age of twelve. After high school he hooked up with a few local producers, recording in the studio with other local rappers and singers—the studio being the main focus of Joe's career. His vocal style is smooth and laid back in the pocket—he is versatile and adapts to many different styles of production, working well with various producers and entertainers. Breezo (Corey Cranford)
AKA Corey Cranford, Breezo grew up around a wide variety of music from spirituals to Blues to R&B to Opera. With both parents involved in all genres of music, Breezo couldn't help but get caught up in it. From a young age he participated in choirs, music theater, and other cultural activities that enhanced his talents as a rapper, singer, writer and dancer. While working on a radio, film and television major at Clark Atlanta University [CAU] '98 -'01, Breezo was able to hone his producing and rapping skills. In 2001, Breezo co-founded NoCoast Cliq, the premier rap group of Wichita, and has been the guiding force in taking the group to commendable success.

Live Urban Pop specialists Kaya have uploaded their new music video for forthcoming single Rat Race with an amazing initial response..

The video has a comical feel with a unique approach, shot by young Japanese director Taichi Kimura entirely in 1 day and in 1 small room; the infamous backstage area of the Tunbridge Well's Forum. Its a fine example that a video doesn't need a big budget to be entertaining; the ideas are creative, the vibe is fun and upbeat, an all-round suitable accompaniment for the song itself.

Taken from the groups forthcoming album 'Look Beneath The Surface' due out mid-summer, Rat Race is an up-tempo Ska Pop song slightly reminiscent of early Madness but with a modern urban slant. Lyrically it takes a satirical look at the financial responsibilities we all face in modern day life; cheekily poking fun at a frustrating subject to which most of us can relate, and aiming to bring a smile to the face of those who hear it.. The 5-piece live group consist of Guitarist Matt, Bassist Tom Y, Drummer Tom H, songstress Aina and rapper Natty, an Ambassador Of The Prince's Trust. Most of them had already worked together in a previous band which was voted BBC Radio 1's Unsigned Band Of The Year. They know each other well, and it shows..

Together they blend infectious instrumental hooks, catchy vocal melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. The band fuse and perform a mix of genres including Hip Hop, Soul, Ska, Dubstep, Jazz and Reggae resulting in a new live Urban Pop sound that is gaining popularity.

Kaya have remained quietly focused on developing their sound and are now putting the finishing touches to their debut album, due for release in summer this year. The latest music video from D.C.-bred rap group, Likeblood, "Money Over Here" featuring Bobby V, began its rotation on MTV Jams this past weekend generating a significant amount of buzz on Twitter surrounding the video's debut. It is premiering just as the group breaks into the Top 50, landing at #44 on Mediabase's urban chart last week. After debuting as the #2 most-added urban record earlier this year, Likeblood is continuing their push up the charts and is excited to release their new video to the world.

"The video features a lot of cameos from people who are really doing it big in D.C.," says Yung E. "We just wanted to bring the city together on this one. We feel like D.C. is about to blow and it's time to show people that we have real movement going on here," says Dre Strong. The video was shot in Washington, D.C. at Ibiza Nightclub in late January and was directed by Erica Chamblee and Lindsey Christian, the team behind the recent film, "Jazz in the Diamond District." "We just wanted to have a good time shooting the video. It was great to have Bobby [V] in D.C. and the entire city came out to support," says Mbea Da 1.

Rachel McDonald: Bringing Back The Soul

Rachel McDonald, a young new artist from Maryland, is gearing up to release her debut album, "The Return of Soul." This 18 year old high school student shows talent and discipline far beyond her years. Her conviction and dedication to her music combined with a seriously good voice will surely turn heads.

The first thing I noticed about Rachel McDonald is her rich sultry voice. She has a staggering range of tone and feeling in her singing. Soul is inherent in her sound, it is rich, plentiful and is woven into every fiber of every note she sings. McDonald has been singing since childhood. While she has no formal vocal training, she has a wealth of experience in church choirs and musical theater productions. "I feel that singing is something I was born to do," she relates. "I didn't choose singing, singing chose me."

The eclectic range of the tracks on "The Return of Soul," reflects McDonald's wide array of musical tastes from Alicia Keys to John Mayer. On the record, there are dance tracks as well as smooth ballads. "I love singing my heart out with ballads so I can really connect with the audience. But seeing those same people out on the floor dancing to my upbeat songs is just as enjoyable."

Rachel McDonald has a strong opinion of the state of today's music. She believes that over the last few decades, music has lost its soul, and she wants to bring it back. "Soul music to me," says McDonald, "is about singing from deep inside of you and being able to transfer what you're singing to people hearing the music." Her mission, as she describes it, is to bring the soul back to music. Her new album is definitely a booster shot in the arm of the music industry.

McDonald faced and continues to confront numerous challenges in the making of "The Return of Soul" and a music video for the single "Clenching My Pillow." As a young woman still in high school, McDonald says her biggest challenge is staying focused through school, recording, and filming while trying to maintain a social life.

"For me, juggling school and working on my album has been the hardest thing about working in the industry. There are times when I've been on the set of the video until late and still had to do homework when I got home. Those are the really tiring days. Also, there are times when I've had to cancel commitments that I've made to people in order to work on the album and video."

As it is for so many young musicians, the realization that making music is more hard work and perseverance than glamour fell heavily on McDonald. However, this artist's remarkable resolve to spread her music to the world seems to have prevailed. McDonald balances her musical life with her passion for fashion, spending time with her friends and staying active in her church.

"The Return of Soul" dropped November 2009 on Redefined Music. The sultry ballads and upbeat dance tunes are a much needed dose of soul in today's music world. Even with her very first album, Rachel McDonald shows that she has strong talent and the determination essential for success in the music industry.
