The 3rd Annual Roll Like Marcus Memorial Harley Davidson Ride

The 3rd Annual Roll Like Marcus Memorial Harley davidson Ride will take place on Memorial Day,May 30th 2010. More than 200 motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to rev up their engines down south Halsted Street from 115th Street to Union Park on Randolph Street on Sunday morning, May 30, 2010, in honor of Marcus Hendricks and fallen police officer Thomas Wortham, IV, both killed by senseless gun violence. This event is sponsored by the Marcus Hendricks Memorial Foundation. The participants will ride for peace and unity in the community and to promote mentoring as one of the solutions to violence.
The first Roll Like Marcus event was held on May 4, 2008, two weeks after Marcus Hendricks was fatally shot while in the office of his plumbing business in the Sheldon Heights neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. An avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Marcus' friends from the biker community joined together for a ride to commemorate Marcus - a father, a husband, a business man and a community supporter on what would have been his 35th birthday. Since Marcus' death, his family has created the Marcus Hendricks Memorial Foundation to promote the tenets of his life: hard-work, family and commitment to community. As a plumber Marcus created his own successful plumbing and sewer business. He supported the community by employing individuals whom he felt deserved a second chance and an opportunity to become self-sufficient and provide for their families.

Chicago Police Officer Thomas Wortham IV was murdered on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, and the ride this year will pay special tribute to Officer Wortham. Cynthia Flowers of the Marcus Hendricks Memorial Foundation says, "Officer Wortham's death should spark outrage from the community. Like my brother he was doing everything right. My heart is bleeding for this family and for the fallen officer's father who had to go to war against domestic terrorists in our communities, to defend his son's life!"

The Marcus Hendricks Memorial Foundation is asking motorcycle officers from the Chicago Police Department and the Illinois State Police to lead the parade this year. Additionally, Bikers of Chicago, the Chicago biker community and bikers from Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana are invited to participate in this event. Many Bikers in the Chicago land area and the biker community represent a cross section of professionals, businessmen, members of law enforcement with a vast array of resources and talent that can be shared within our communities.

Just as men and women are being asked to Roll (r-o-l-l) like Marcus, they are also being encouraged to "role (r-o-l-e)" like Marcus by making hard-work, family and community development a way of life. Participants in this years ride will have the opportunity to sign-up as mentors in the local schools. This ride is also meant to link community advocacy groups who are actively working within Chicago neighborhoods with bike clubs and individual mentors to help develop a partnership to impact positive changes in our communities.

Since Marcus' murder his sister Cynthia Flowers has committed herself to working towards improving education, family integrity and community unity. Flowers states, "When the youth speak about the reasons violence occurs they often refer to adults who don't care. Through our ride we want to show those youth that there are plenty of adults and organizations that do care. We want to show them that members of the biking community, to which my brother belonged, not only say they care but many of them have programs that give back directly to the community."

Darryl Jackson, president of the Chicago Harley Boyz & Girlz states, "We are very selective about where we spend our charitable efforts. We want to see the money that we raise do good for the people within our community. Our club provides hands on support and mentoring throughout the year. " Jackson stated that the Chicago Harley Boyz and Girlz sponsors an open gym basketball league, "We've rented gym time at Robeson High School and we allow the teenagers to come in and use the gym and play ball instead of hanging in the streets."

Frank Kimbrough a Harley rider who runs a successful 5Linx communication enterprise has mentored young men on the values of ethics on creating their own wealth legally. Kimbrough is currently mentoring 3 young men from the Auburn-Gresham community and has challenged them to avoid drugs and gangs in exchange for stipends to work to develop their own businesses.

Registration for the event begins at 8 AM at 714 W. 115th Street, in Chicago, on Sunday, May 30, 2010. The ride begins at 10am and will proceed from 115th and Halsted Street in Chicago and travel north through several of the neighborhoods most affected by gun violence. The ride will end at Union Park (1501 W. Randolph)Chicago Park District and will feature a family-style picnic.

The MHM foundation has invited many other advocacy partners to greet families at Union Park who are seeking comfort, support or resources to combat violence. Members of The Black Star Project's DEBORAH MOVEMENT, a women led initiative with a mission to reclaim our down trodden communities, will be present to facilitate organizing efforts to activate, engage and inspire Chicago area citizens to improve the quality of life in our communities.

MarilynMusic's Debut EP "Pure Rock" Available At Multiple Online Retailers

Composing/publishing and production house MarilynMusic released their debut record, "Pure Rock" on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. The album is now available on major online music retailers: eMusic, iTunes, Amazon, Napster and 7Digital.

eMusic: Download/421035.html

7 Digital:

"Pure Rock" is a whirlwind tour through rock and roll history. Each song has a distinct sound with influences ranging from the Beatles and Steve Miller to more modern rockers like Nirvana, right up through to contemporary rock of today. Where tracks like "Lost Man In Los Angeles" are dominated by distorted guitars and crashing drums, others like "She's Cool" offer an acoustic rock sound with melodic vocal lines and smooth chord progressions.

Weaved into the melodies and sounds of each of these tunes are the common themes of love and loss. In "Layin' Love on the Line," the duo writes about risking everything for the love of a woman and in "Burning Man," about the healing power of love. The best part of this EP, with all its eclecticism and its wide range of sounds, is that each track really rocks. The emotionality of these songwriters shines through on every tune and the beats and grooves make you bob your head.

MarilynMusic is the partnership of musicians/composers Michael Gaines and Casey Conrad. Gaines and Conrad created MarilynMusic to marry their love and knowledge of a broad range of musical genres with the tastes of today’s pop audience. The prolific duo has numerous tracks recorded and produced, with new material constantly coming down the pipeline. Gaines and Conrad collaborate on every aspect of the music from the writing to the finished product, but the two have distinct roles in the process. Gaines is primarily responsible for lyrical composition and Conrad produces the recordings. Both write the music and play on the recordings – Conrad on bass and drums and Gaines on guitar. This duo clearly has a lot of music to offer and this EP is a rocking good start.

"Pure Rock" is available for purchase through iTunes at:

HRI: UNArts -- USAID 2010 - Caring For Our Own

The size, scope and extent of suffering on the grassroots level across the United States, is but a reflection of 20 percent real unemployment/underemployment with the toolbelt recession closer to 25-30 percent [1]. People are stressed, millions have watched their lives destroyed, loosing their homes and life savings during this economic downturn that makes the Great Depression look like a down day on Wall Street. [2]

USAID 2010 is a grassroots effort to turn this picture around. How? We need to define unmet needs on the community level, in the same way we went house to house, business to business after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Southern United States. We can no longer turn our back in denial of the suffering in our communities.

As with the Tour de America Campaign, [3] directed by Stephen Michael Apatow, [4] in the early 90's, our first step in this process is exposure or light on the problem..... this will bring an immediate response. This means reaching every community, in all 50 states and territories.

Artists can join USAID 2010 by mediating these efforts on the grassroots level, in every city, state and region. The focus is unmet needs and the mission is "Bridging Unmet Needs to Untapped Resources" through the United Nations Arts Initiative:

Hope & Strength During a Time of Trial

Few are aware of the angels that accompany us. In the Old Testament, a servant came to Elisha in the midst of attack, only to find him calm and collected. The servant asked, how can you be calm, when we are about to see the city destroyed. Elisha prayed, O LORD, please open his eyes. At that moment the servant could see the hills full of horses and chariots of fire, sent by the Lord to keep them safe. -- Background discussion on the soundtrack "No Fear" from the album compilation "Outside of the Box." One God: One Game: The interfaith community unites in a common mission, the weapons are active care, compassion and concern, the vehicle encompasses successful initiatives that address the ills of conflict, ignorance, poverty and disease. -- The Ultimate Objective: Humanitarian Resource Institute. Alternative Rock Group SoulSpill Guitarist Jesse Michael Howard Selected To Perform On Tour With Big Kenny Of Big & Rich

Eric Taysom, founder of the alternative rock band SoulSpill announced that after a series of auditions, SoulSpill lead guitarist Jesse Michael Howard has been selected as the lead guitarist for Big Kenny's Love Everybody Traveling Musical Medicine Show. The tour began in April 2010 in Nashville, and additional dates are still being booked. Howard will also play the lead guitar on Big Kenny's next album, although details regarding a release date are not yet available.

Big Kenny released his solo album "The Quiet Times Of A Rock And Roll Farm Boy" in November 2009 utilizing studio musicians, but auditioned road musicians to perform with him for the Big Kenny's Love Everybody Traveling Musical Medicine Show tour. Howard made the cut.

Taysom is very pleased with Howard's accomplishment, but it didn't come as a bombshell for him or his fellow group members. He stated, "We're not surprised at all that Jesse was selected. He's a very talented artist who comes from a great musical background."

Howard hails from Colorado as do the other members of SoulSpill, and has performed with many local acts there including Abandanato and The Tyler Ward band. He has produced albums for several artists, and is a producer, writer and front man for SoulSpill, who just released its debut album "Last Mondays Storm" on May 11th. SoulSpill has been featured on the radio shows Live Blues World satellite radio and Beats For the Streets. They are also the winner of the Guerilla Records Battle of the Bands.

Kenny Ortega
Kenny Ortega is a native of Spanish Harlem, A stand up comedian and although he has been a comedian for under 6 years he has grown up fast by working along side some of the best Latino comedians out there today. Kenny like any other kid always found himself getting into mischief, which now reflects his comedic style of story telling on stage. Kenny enjoys helping those starting out in the comedy field by organizing shows to make the transition on to the comedy club stage a lot easier. He worked in venues like "The Dave Chappelle show" the second season and Metro TV. Kenny takes great pleasure in putting a laugh into everyone's day.

And check out the latest issue of Glamour magazine where Michelle dispenses " some hilarious " dating do's and don'ts.

Mike Lawrence
Mike Lawrence is a true comedian's comedian, being the son of a former comedian, Mrs. Alice Lawrence (now Colin), but considering the places he's played, it's obvious that nepotism has in no way helped Mr. Lawrence's career. Mr. Lawrence considers himself an acerbic, witty comic who tackles those icky social topics that no one else likes to touch. Or so he says. He also says he's attractive, so honestly, it's hard to believe anything that he comes up with.

Wil Sylvince
Wil Sylvince is one of the most explosive comedians performing around the world today. His comedic performances on BET's COMIC VIEW, HBO'S DEF COMEDY JAM, and SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO all garnered standing ovations by the audiences, a feat rarely seen accomplished by many performers. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Wil has honed his act in New York's top comedy clubs - the Comedy Cellar, Comic Strip Live, Caroline's on Broadway, Stand-Up NY and the Gotham Comedy Club. His unique perspective on political and social issues, with a twist of his West Indian Hatian culture makes Wil a comedian in high demand. He has been handpicked by comedian heavyweights Damon Wayans, D.L. Hughley, Chris Tucker, Kat Williams and Bill Bellamy to tour the country.

Ted Alexandro
Time Out NY magazine named Ted Alexandro one of the top comedians working today. Time magazine featured Ted in the article "Comedy In The Age of Obama". Ted has performed on David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson, The View and two half-hour specials on Comedy Central. Ted has performed internationally on "The World Stands Up" in London, "The Big Night of Comedy Festival" in Amsterdam and three times at Montreal's "Just for Laughs Comedy Festival". He has also performed in Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait and Hong Kong. Recently Ted has been touring with Louis CK as his opening act. Louis has called Ted "Probably my favorite comedian working today".
