Rebel Flag Salute The New Soul Revolution

So here we go with another band press release and the challenge to say something new about four musicians who want to save the world with a tune, is on.

In the deep end we dive to introduce a crew from the heartlands of Sussex in the UK called Rebel Flag, a force that digs deep into the roots of soul and rock music and mixes it with some true 21st century swagger.

If the current crop of cloned out rock bands and pop factor coveter belt puppets has got you reaching for a new Spotify playlist, then you might want add these boys to it.

A new EP out this summer proves that there is still music being made that has the quality as was laid down in stone in the golden age of popular music.

With an industry that has been kicked and mauled to near extinction over the past 15 years, you may ask yourself why musicians even bother to try and break new music.

Faced with a task of playing hostile venues for little or no money, sales from releases looking unsustainable and companies taking huge cuts from the streaming royalties, it’s never looked so hard for new music to find a rock to stand on.

So with that question in mind who do the Rebel Flag think they are trying to keep the flame burning for original music and killer live shows, maybe because they are all completely mad or maybe because they believe in the connection the music and like-people can bring to the party?

Leading the troops is Irish born singer songwriter and producer Dar.Ra.

His credits go back to the 90's with hits under the disguises of Taste of Paradise, Bliss and an Australian band called Ultra Love Machine, and remixes of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Tears 4 Fears and Savage Garden.

Growing up listening to bands like the Specials, Paul Weller and classic soul and rock from the 60's and 70's is the lifeblood that goes into Dar.Ra and his songwriting.

His live experience has seen him tour around the world solo and with bands over the past 15 years, so much so he has written a book called Road Tales all about the adventures of a musician on the road, which is out this summer to coincide with the debut EP release.

The power punch of the up and coming comes in the form of Aiden a drummer who has all the attitude of Keith Moon, with added virtue of being able to play any kind of vibe at the drop of a hat.

Inventiveness and creativity flows effortlessly for a player under the age of 20 years old, which can only be attributed to his parents having impeccable musical taste and his uncle being the late great John Martyn.

Bring on the new breed. Added to this wild brand is a rising young player from Venezuela Chrissy D, a true bass head, with a capacity to hold a groove from here to eternity. His latin passion and addiction to making music that touches the soul, brings a white heat to the rhythm section.

In a few short months they have swaggered around the South Coast of England reminding people that music still means something in the toxic corporate world of a dying music industry.

And what of the music?
The music is a hybrid of rock mixed with some soul a touch of reggae and a slice of attitude laid on top to give it that fine mix that British bands do so well.

So as your mind suggests we've heard it all before and your ears retreat to your comfort zone, let me tell you that this is something to keep close to your heart.

In doing that one small task, we keep an door open to that tribal power that first hit the dance-floors back in the 50's when Rock n Roll was born.
Ask not what Rock n Roll can do for you but what you can do for Rock n Roll!

MusicDishTV Presents "Dance With You" By Jazz-Pop Duo Miss 600

UK Based jazz-pop duo Miss 600 recently released their new video, "Dance With You". Nothing but listening with your own two ears will do this song justice. The beat is an up tempo cut that has plenty of spunk, passion and a powerhouse vocal performance from Miss 600, which includes singer-songwriter Hannah Garner and multi-instrumentalist David Amar. This is feel good music at its best! In many ways, Garner's vocal style reminds me of Beyonce, and yet it remains extraordinarily unique. This lady doesn't fit into anyone's shadow or mold. The music has a full orchestra sound, with horns and an arrangement that just doesn't quit! Amar also shows his prowess, flexing his musical muscles, and believe me, he's much more Superman in that respect than he is Clark Kent. You just can't listen to this without it impacting your mood. The duo is on a supersonic flight to stardom, and as a reviewer, I have to say that "this is a pair of artists to keep your eye on." Whether you've ever heard of them before or not, you will without a doubt find them on your radar, probably sooner than later. One can tell easily that they enjoy what they're doing, and when you have that along with the cohesiveness and brilliance the team exudes, along with raw talent and songs that transport and allow you to feel like you're at a show instead of just listening to a record, that's a winning combination.

Review: "Better Days" By The Sons

"Better Days" is the second single released from the album "The Prime Words Committee" by UK based indie rock band The Sons. The simple sound of plucked strings on guitar, along with a fiddle, add flavor to the dance tempo country beat. The intro builds into a clever repeated musical hook, as the lead vocalist sings about the failure of hope and religion, with challenging imagery in his lyrics. The band has very rich harmonies like Crosby, Stills, and Nash. And the fiddle, bass, and drums are well played. The Sons are a five member crew hailing from Derby, England, comprised of Paul Herron, Lee Blades, Stewart English, Roger Millichamp, and Steven Herron. A nice antidote for all the noise of an election year. The best news of all? This song is free! Be a part of the 1 million downloads goal the band is trying to achieve. Cool idea... cool song.

Grin City By Strawberry Nightmares

This summer, one city will witness an uprising.

Of course it's Grin City, the 5th album by UK based electronic outfit Strawberry Nightmares.
Grin City contains 13 brand new tracks, freshly slaughtered (Inhumanely obviously), gutted, sliced diced, digitized and ready for your palate.

Released digitally on August 23rd the band has delivered its Maximalist-Clowncore-Jokelectro style once again, except better, somehow.
Avid listeners will notice plenty more samples, guitars, breakdowns, builds, more madness and a much more danceable vibe overall. Although there are still a couple of more chilled pieces to put your pet iguana to sleep, or for when you are on a caffeine comedown.

Influences remain numerous and eclectic including internet sensation Leeroy Jenkins, old kung-fu movies, Rustie, Zombies, Frank Miller comics and Cartoon Networks Adventure Time. All these and more are the fuel behind the beats, bells, bleeps and “Lick My Face”s featured within.

For those who cant wait and have recently acquired a nervous tick, get your hands on some FREE music now. In the wake of another ‘rising’ Strawberry Nightmares have a Batman inspired track available for download on their official site.

"Two Minds" by the Sons Reviewed By MusicDish

"Two Minds" by The Sons by musicdish

The single "Two Minds" by UK-based indie rock band The Sons is very on trend, considering the current success of country influenced alternative rock (See: Kings of Leon). The song takes a subdued, quiet start, with just a hint of slide guitar and the tiny accent in the lead vocal. Halfway through though, the song blossoms with a louder, richer, and even more complex sound, as if the band was holding back until this point. The song is almost completely different than when it started, with an energy and style that gives it a unique voice. The vocals that are at once playful and commanding, demonstrates a confidence in its delivery and message. Now if The Sons could take their "Two Minds" and focus them on this one voice, that would be something special.

Kerchoonz Showcasing Indie Talent At Our House

Kerchoonz, the social media networking group, is partnering with cult Mancunian online TV show, "Our House", in a bid to help promote regional UK musical talent.

The announcement follows on from the "Kerchoonz Live" sessions in December last year, when indie artists were invited to upload their music onto the Kerchoonz.com site, the winners going on to perform in front of a live studio audience at the House of Rock studios in Glasgow and receiving cash prizes, promotion in hard press, world-wide blog networking, professional live studio recordings and interview sessions with top journalists around the globe.

Our House is fast becoming recognised as the platform for showcasing indie musical talent. A mixture of music, guests and celebrity guest presenters, with interviews being held on the sofa and live performances in the living room, acts lined up for this year include:

* Tim Scott, a guitarist who works alongside Judge Jules in Ibiza
* Frank Bembini of the Fun Lovin Criminals
* Kristyna Miles, who has toured with Simply Red
* The 66, Violet Youth, Donna Marie, Darren Poyzer, Kranius and The Harks

In addition to this line-up, special guests will include Terry Longden, the TV and radio celebrity who also happens to be the nephew of Ozzy Osbourne, and Alan Fletcher, aka Dr Karl Kennedy in Neighbours, whose band is touring the UK this year.

Indiana Gregg, co-founder of Kerchoonz, says: "The Kerchoonz Live sessions are dedicated to supporting live entertainment and showing off some of the world's best raw talent. Similarly, Our House has exactly the same philosophy, cutting through the bull that often fuels the music industry and setting its sights firmly on giving musicians a helping hand, whilst providing entertainment to music lovers everywhere. We have joined forces to do just that, and the signs suggest that Our House is set to really take off".

Claire Curran, producer and presenter of Our House agrees. She says: "Mancunians are truly some of the most passionate music lovers in the world, indeed producing some of the best bands from the last twenty years and so it is fitting that Our House is filmed in Manchester. With the help of Kerchoonz, we will continue to attract and air bands worthy of attention from around the UK, giving them much needed publicity, as well as having our legendary in-depth conversations on the sofa with fascinating guests. We believe that both Kerchoonz and Our House will show musicians that the traditional process of finding an agent and a record deal is not the only route to success."

The episodes will be aired weekly, with the first episode being shown on 30 July at http://www.kerchoonz.com/ourhouse

Kerchoonz, founded by Indiana Gregg and Ian Morrow in 2008, is a group of veteran record producers, artists, songwriters , music and technology industry professionals. Interview With Darnell - One Of Kerchoonz' Hardest Working Bands

UK-based Darnell was one of the four bands to win the Kerchoonz December Live Sessions contest "to find the hardest working unsigned acts on the circuit." In addition to earning a "substantial amount of money" for their plays and downloads on Kerchoonz throughout the month of December, Darnell was invited to perform at the 'House Of Rock' studios in Glasgow for an 'invite only' audience.

We took the opportunity to chat with band about the secret to their online success and attitudes to artist compensation. You can read the full interview with Donna Marie, Helicopter Girl and The Fortunate Sons here.

What was the secrets to your success on Kerchoonz? And how was it playing the 'House Of Rock' studios? Any good back or on-stage anecdotes/stories?

I think the secret was a lot of spare time spent on the Internet, messaging Facebook friends as well as contacts made through MySpace, asking people to listen, and better still, download our songs on Kerchoonz,... I did bother friends a little more than usual, but as you can see it paid off. Facebook made it much easier to promote Kerchoonz because when you added our Kerchoonz page to Facebook, it adds the link with picture and all, so that was good.

As for playing at the House of Rock studios, that was an amazing experience. We were so humble. We would say it was our best day ever in our journey within the music biz! Indianna Gregg was a fantastic host and Ian Marrow was just so chilled and very approachable. He was even willing to sit down and tell us some stories about his experience within the business.

Taking to the stage was a bit daunting as it was so intimate and with cameras rolling etc,... it all took a little getting used to. By the third song, I had chilled and was starting to get into it. Unfortunately, we only got to play 3 songs each! Junior said his hands were sweating while he was playing, possibly nerves.

Our biggest thing was trying to pick the songs that we liked to play, but also songs that we thought would make an impact. When Darnell plays live, it is just one guitar and two vocals. We try and fill the room with our song the best we can - we think we did OK on that night.

Obviously, you've build an active fanbase before joining Kerchoonz. What is your general approach to online marketing? Have you had similar successes in generating traffic and/or getting paid on other sites?

We always wanted to build a band website and felt that we really needed to do that in order to progress and let people know what we are about. It was another one of those things - starting a site, the time and money!

We played a radio station in Manchester about 2 years ago and the DJ asked if we had a MySpace page. We weren't sure what that was, but she insisted that we set one up. So I did and very quickly realized that perhaps we didn't need a website after all - MySpace does it all!! Within no time, we had built up a fanbase. We found that a lot of Americans really liked our stuff which was great.

Over the last 6 months, we felt like we needed something new - and along came Kerchoonz. It's fresh, it's new and better still, you get paid, just for people downloading and listening to your music.

The Internet has changed the way we market and distribute music. But has it changed the way you approach creating music?

I think the way I approach creating music has always been the same. Our demos on MySpace and Kerchoonz are all old songs, anything from 3 to 10 years old. People can't tell. We would love to record new songs, but it all costs money. But what is great about the Internet is that you can play a gig, videotape it using a phone or camera, and within hours, you can place that video on your pages for all to see.

For example, Darnell took part in Channel 4's Orange unsigned competition. We decided to videotape our journey to London, which we placed on YouTube and Kerchoonz/MySpace. Within no time, we had 1500 hits on YouTube alone, and that's without us promoting it in any way! So we feel the Internet and today's technology can bring fans closer to the artist.

What are other ways you interact with your fans on a site like Kerchoonz? What tools have been most effective in communicating with your fans? Does it sometimes become a little overwhelming?

When we first found Kerchoonz, I thought "...aahhh something else to get used to. I can't take it anymore." But within no time, I felt it was so easy to use. I like to use the comment box when I talk to people as our fans like to see what has been said and lets them know what the real you is all about. Updating your status on Kerchoonz lets people know that you are online or have recently been online which it can generate traffic to your page.

In the U.S., recording artists are lobbying Congress to get paid for the use of their music by conglomerates like Clear Channel. Most social networking sites like MySpace or YouTube grew on the back of musicians and other creators without compensating them. Do you think that artists should demand compensation or be content with the exposure they receive? How did it feel to actually get paid by Kerchoonz?

It is fantastic to get paid by Kerchoonz. Writing your own songs and playing them live means that you rarely get paid, so the opportunity to get some compensation for doing something that you enjoy is amazing. Also, it will sure come in handy when we need to record new tunes. I don't feel it is such a big deal, but I think it will be a good incentive to get artists to sign up with the site.

As for other sites like MySpace, I don't feel artists should push to get paid as they know what they were signing up to when they started. I feel the exposure is a bigger payment than any amount of money. Being part of the first Kerchoonz Live Session will be worth more in exposure than any amount of money!
