Gaquere-Martins Duo's Sparks Fly In The U.S.!

Mar Creation introduces a rare duo via Belgium, Brazil, and the world: The Boris Gaquere & Renato Martins Duo! With their blend of the swing of Brazil and the depth of classical, guitar and percussion meld to rejuvenate old styles and create a dynamic style that is uniquely their own sound for today, from classic pieces to original compositions.

Their album Tempo Feliz (Mogno Music, Belgium, '06 – title track by Baden Powell) consecrated this union and launched their signature sound to rave reviews. Boris' guitar playing bears a "beautiful, essential rhythmic sprightliness" and Renato is "an ideal partner for these melodies.' (Philip Catherine, jazz guitarist) Boris' 'expressive virtuosity' and Renato's 'rhythmic precision' proves that 'music knows no frontiers.' (Ulisses Rocha, Brazilian guitarist/composer) Fire, passion, intensity, talent, virtuosity, crystalline clarity, empathy – all words repeated again and again to describe this duo and their music making. Any time they play together, it's time to share that fire.

The artists met in '04 in Brussels on Renato's first trip there. The connection was immediate and electric. By '05 they were guests at the Brno Guitar Festival in the Czech Republic and by '06 it was their new album and master classes at guitar festivals in Poland and France, and concerts in theatres in Paris and Brussels. And the fire spread. In '07 they made a triumphant return to Brussels for the BRAVO festival with a return engagement to the festival in Poland and other stops at important venues in Switzerland, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Taiwan. And now they bring their fire to warm winter hearts in the US.

And raves for the duo abound:

RENATO MARTINS is: 'Considered a reinventor of Brazilian percussion Inventive and full of great technique" (Isaac Ribeiro, Tribuna do Norte, Brazil) "reaffirming the value of the instrumental music of Brazil " (submarino.com) '...master of percussion..." (Daniel Valentim, A Crítica, Brazil)

BORIS GAQUERE: " ...one of the new generation's most interesting and 'authentically musical' guitarists and composers.' (Roland DYENS) "...a name to watch for in the future." (Classical Guitar, UK) "...an original compositional voice, a command of the instrument and a strong ear for new composers ca new voice I hope to hear more of soon.' (Guitarramagazine.com, USA)

See them on YouTube, MySpace, and other sites listed below but, for the very best and the only real way to hear them, catch the fire live on their US tour at venues listed below and more dates soon to be announced:

Lead Guitarist For The Legendary Ohio Players Drops New CD

As the lead guitarist for the Ohio Players, one of funk's legendary bands, there is no argument that Clarence 'Chet' Willis understands the technology of rhythm. Willis' history spans over 30 years either playing, singing, writing and/or producing on gold and platinum mega-hits like "Funky Worm," "Rollercoaster," "Honey," "Skin Tight," and "Fire!" The Ohio Players have long been lauded for laying the foundation for funk served sweet, sticky and soul-satisfying.

So when the notion hit him to join forces with his songwriting partner Harry "HarryO" McLoud and step out to create a sound of his own, "The C-Dub Project" was born! Adding a new dimension to a legacy of musical mastery, "The C-Dub Project" is an eclectic collection of refined funk that is hypnotic, haunting and toe-tapping. Mesmerizing and tantalizing, Willis and McLoud rock us to the next level with 12 ear-bending tracks that wind rhythm around the spectrum of possibilities.

Clarence originally started playing the guitar at an early age, being mainly influenced by the sounds of late night radio broadcasts, attending church with his family and the music he heard in his neighborhood by aspiring musical talents like himself. Early on in his musical journey, he started playing guitar for a local gospel group called The Gospelteers. He remained with them for over a decade. While in high school, he joined a band known as The Majestics. They recorded one single as The Majestics and later changed their name to The Overnite Low Show Band later evolving into the group SUN. In 1975, Clarence was recruited to join The Ohio Players and was nicknamed "Chet." He remains with the Ohio Players to this day and still tours with the band.

As a young teenager in Dayton, Ohio, Harry saw The Beatles perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and became smitten with the electric guitar. He sought out his close friend Clarence Willis to teach him to play. This began Harry's career in the music business in a variety of roles including, but not limited to guitarist/songwriter, road manager, personal manager, local concert promoter and public relations representative. Together Willis and McLoud have spent decades together on the road and in the studio via the incarnations of several bands.

With the "The C-Dub Project" they enchantingly blend elements of jazz, funk and old school creating a dreamy laidback soundscape. The opening track finds Willis on acoustic guitar and percussion teasing with a melodic Latin-tinged rift entitled "Peek-A-Boo" before breaking out and breaking down into "Someday Sundai," a bass-heavy jam that hearkens the best of the '80's old school funk sensibility. "Is There Something on Your Mind?," with its wistful refrain, washes over us like a warm summer breeze offering promises of unrequited love with "Anything" flowing like an ode to the '70s with its comforting folksy appeal. "You Make Me Feel Like Woo!" tilts and turns the beat while "BluLyte" recalls the ambiance of blue light basement parties.

"This is new music for the old school audience," expresses Willis. "Cool, smooth and groovin' is how the music makes you feel. Whether you want to get your dance on, chill out and relax, or go for a ride, we feel 'The C-Dub Project' is right for all that and much more. And even though we had the old school audience in mind, our music appeals to everyone regardless of age."

To get your "C-Dub" on, take a ride at http://www.thec-dubproject.com/ "The C-Dub Project" may be for an old school audience, but it's a new generation of sound!

Liquid Light Releases Afro-tinged Deep House Album "Rhythm Mystery"

Rhythm Mystery is an album based on deep house filtered through afro, world and latin groove construction. Combined with a spacious deepness and dub attitude, rhythm mystery is an intelligent electronic/dance project with a rich deep sound, dubby progression and echoes of world music.

JOMO - What I Want

JOMO’s hip hop track “What I Want” isn’t your average hip hop song. Featuring clever lyrics that are backed up by a strong beat and a nice hook, including horns that come in and really put the funk in it, “What I Want” packs a lyrical punch and is actually reminiscent of 2Pac’s sound. There’s nothing to guess about here – just JOMO letting you know: “What I Want, Son is to get my cash/What I Want, Money, is not to live in the past/What I want, Cousin, is to rule the world/What I want, for once, is to trust my girl/”. The video is simple, deferring to the power of the lyrics and beat. The track “What I Want” has been licensed for the video game TECK DECK LIVE, FRONTLIER FILMS, ON THE THROTTLE TV, LG PICTURES, and the independent film, “800 Pound Gorilla” (a John Paxton Film), and other productions.

Singer Tony Adamo's Funky Hip Eleanor Rigby

This very fresh take on the Beatles' symphonically infused downer reemerges here in Adamo's arrangement as decidedly less depressive but certainly no less enticing. The melancholy of the original comes through less so in Adamo's phrasings but is threaded throughout by the plaintiveness of the organ. The sadness of McCartney's voice has been leeched out here but miraculously not so much prettified by Adamo as hepped up by his jazz inflections and flavorings. The tempo's faster and the crispness of the drums and the guitar provide a snappy counterpoint to the organ. This is not a lonely song at all but a sort of rousing pronouncement about all the lonely people.

Fringe Takes Centre Stage At MIDEM

New talent is set to perform at the heart of MIDEM 2011 with the launch of a new Fringe performance stage inside the main MIDEM exhibition hall.

21 groups drawn from Canada, Germany, France, Austria, the United States, Russia, Spain and Britain, will perform live between January 23 and January 25, giving MIDEM delegates the opportunity to discover new 'underground' acoustic talent without having to leave MIDEM's venue, the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. All groups will appear for a second series of evening gigs at one of the three Cannes venues which are also hosting the Fringe - Morrison's Irish Pub, The Lounge and The Quay's Irish Pub.

"Following the success of the Fringe programme last year, MIDEM 2011 will provide new talent with exposure to music executives both during the day and at night. By bringing the Fringe into the Palais des Festivals, MIDEM underlines that the creation of music and the development of new talent are at the heart of what the event stands for," says Dominique Leguern, Director of MIDEM.

The Amazing Insurance Salesmen At D22 In Beijing On The 21 Of January 2010 At 9 PM

In order to be prepared for the World final of the Global Battle of the bands which will take place on the 26 of February, and also to satisfy their growing number of fans, The Amazing Insurance Salesmen are continuing to play around the best venues in Beijing.

The band will be headlining a show on the 21 of January at D22, accompanied by "Wu and the side effects" as well as "Lazy Camels".

The Amazing Insurance Salesmen is a band lead by French man Zhang Si’an, with ZIYO drummer Maomao from China and bass player Maikel from Holland.

The band plays original experimental music and songs inspired by bands such as Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix and music genres like Jazz, Blues, Bossa nova, Fusion, Classical music etc...

The band formed in the summer of 2009, when French singer Zhang Si’an was looking for a way to go back to rock music after ten years of playing folk music, chinese inspired folk songs and Jazz. He asked two of the best musicians in Beijing to join him in a journey to create a new experimental rock sound.

The music of the band is very unique in Beijing. It flows between short melodic punk-rock songs and long instrumental guitar driven progressive rock improvisations sounding like David Gilmour and Carlos Santana.

The band has and still is playing in Beijing’s most famous venues such as 2Kolegas, Mao Livehouse, Yugongyishan, the What Bar, D22, Club 13 etc...

The band had also played music festivals including the Beijing Haidian Park Festival and the Beijing Nanluoguxiang Festival.

The Amazing Insurance Salesmen are currently recording their first demo, which will be available soon. Check back on this website for updates.

Band members:
Drums: Maomao (China)
Bass: Maikel (Holland)
Guitar/vocals: Jean-Sébastien Héry (Zhang Si’an) (France)
