New Social Music Network Offers Musicians A Chance To Be Discovered - Online Song Contest At OKMusic Helps Artist Land Contract With Hollywood Movie

OKMusic.fm, an international social media music community still in beta, has already helped an aspiring singer get a contract to have his music in a Hollywood film through a song competition.

Canadian musician Rich Chambers’ song, "Santa's Rockin' Band," was selected by Crystal Sky Pictures producer Stephen Paul to be part of the sound track for Chilly Christmas, a family-oriented film about a boy and his dog coming out this fall as a holiday fare. The film stars C. Thomas Howell, Tom Arnold, Karan Brar and Brooke Langton.

OKMusic allows its users to upload their songs and communicate with fans. Artists can also create a profile, get advice on their careers and find out about promotional opportunities. Music lovers can discover new singers and bands and be the first among their friends to follow those musicians.

Competing against thousands of songs from around the world, Chambers impressed the judges with his winning entry, Santa’s Rockin’ Band, a country rock song that tells the story of how Santa invented Rock n’ Roll.

Chambers, a resident of Langley, B.C, Canada, works full time at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and performs gigs and the occasional charity event at night with his local band, “Half-Hour Late.” A practicing musician for more than 20 years, he composed “Santa’s Rockin’ Band” in 1994 but it never achieved the promotional exposure he had hoped.

“It’s hard for an unknown indie artist to get exposure so enough people can listen to your music to make you popular,” Chambers explained. “That’s what is so great about OKMusic.fm. They are giving artists like myself a place to be heard and a way to build a fan base.”

Eighteen years later, after discovering the community online, the Canadian native dusted off his recording and entered the OKMusic music competition, the first of many to come. Now, thanks to OKMusic, a social network where artists get discovered, he’s about to get his first movie credit.

The 44 year old musician does Rock, Blues, Pop and Country but Christmas music has always been a favorite area for Chambers to explore. He has a cover recording of the Snow Miser and Heat Miser from the stop animation Christmas special “The Year Without a Santa Claus” that has sold more than 13,000 copies so far on iTunes.

“I’ve always loved Christmas music,” he said. “I guess I’m just a kid at heart.”

Review: "Sunny Day" By R&B/Pop Talent Amira

"Sunny Day" is an R&B and pop mix that lifts your spirits and elevates your mood and day. It's the perfect way to ease into chill mode and be relaxed and at peace. It just made the top of my morning mix because the words and the music are so positive. The piano and keys get this song started with a warm mix and easy mid tempo dance track, with a nice kick drum. The percussion isn't "in your face," but is smooth, and the vocals are rocking. Amira has a great soft, soulful voice, and the background vocals complement the song well. With lyrics like, "Nothing's gonna change my mind, Nothing's gonna bring me down", that are set to smooth, but catchy music; "Sunny Day" just keeps you on a high note. The high string hits really add nice touches, and the track is well produced. This is a great song for a world that needs more smiles and positivity."

Steve Cooke Celebrates 130th Labor Day Anniversary With The Release Of His Single "Working For The USA"

Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. This year is observing the 130th anniversary of its origin, when in 1882 Matthew Maguire, a machinist and secretary of the New York Central Labor Union (CLU) first proposed the Federal holiday.
“ I think it’s important to understand the civil significance of the labor movement in todays society. I know the public is struggling to find work and I’m just singing about people being able to support their families. I hope the movement will last well into the next 130 years,” says Cooke.

Sincere, ambitious and sometimes angry, he addresses the concerns of the working man, while proposing an overhaul of American family values.

To quote the Rolling Stones and Peter Frampton producer, Chris Kimsey, “This is a powerful political mass and middle/poor class identity anthem. It is raw and back to the roots, the thing that is resilient and soulful is the lyric, the song and the singer ”.

Produced and written by Steve Cooke, the song has a strong 12-string guitar influence with notes of pedal steel intertwining with the soaring Rock guitar riffs. The huge crescendos and emotional Goose bumps are likened to a blend of John Cougar Mellencamp, Keith Urban and Bon Jovi. Like the gifted storytellers before him, he will be blazing a wide and long trail upon the countries musical landscape.

It’s been a long wait for the backbone of America to hear an underlining message of unified faith and hope in a song. Cooke has successfully used this medium to pay tribute to the creators of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker.

Singer/Songwriter Tina Malia Debuts Pop/electronic Album "The Lost Frontier" Today Worldwide

Singer/Songwriter/Multi-instrumentalist/Producer Tina Malia debuts today her highly anticipated pop/electronic album “The Lost Frontier.” Malia delivers a rawness and authenticity through her extraordinary voice and musical compositions as well as in her lyrics and prose. Each song on "The Lost Frontier" is powerful on its own, kicking off with the sensuous second single “Serendipity” and the global electronic introspection of the title track to the building dance beat of “Undercover” and the inspirational groove of “Spark.” Collectively the album makes an indelible mark every time one hears it. Upon each listening something new is learned, as the songs inspire instead of instigate, observe rather than point, wonder rather than blame. Each of the 10 original tracks is part of the greater whole, which at the end of the day is an affirmation of love, of hope, of responsibility for ourselves and each other.

"The title track sets up the entire album 'The Lost Frontier' because it highlights the cyclical nature of our existence and the far extremes that lie within it. The wheel is merely an observer as we move through revolutions of creation and decay, hope and despair, beauty and destruction. 'The Lost Frontier' is about acknowledging and understanding these different aspects in life and remembering that we have the power to choose what we do with that knowledge." Tina Malia

RealSing.Org
“The Lost Frontier” already has people talking as it becomes the first pop/electronic album to get the RealSing.org stamp of vocal authenticity, which means Malia’s vocals were recorded without any vocal pitch manipulation technology such as Auto-Tune. The RealSing Collective – made up of GRAMMY-winning singers, songwriters, engineers, producers and music industry organizations-- evaluates and then gives official certification to authentic recorded vocal performances.

Army Pink
Tina Malia is the first indie artist to be named as an Ambassador of Peace for the new global brand-of-action Army Pink (http://www.facebook.com/ArmyPinkGirls). Army Pink pledges a portion of its sales to support organizations that make positive change in regions of the world and areas of our lives running at a peace deficit. Its Ambassadors of Peace are female musicians – representing legends, icons and independent artists – who are courageous and committed to promoting peace worldwide.

More Tina Malia
A multi-talented artist and highly trained musician, Ms. Malia not only writes and sings her own material, she also engineers and produces her albums, playing many of the instruments included on them. Originally trained as a classical pianist by her mother, she credits her father for introducing her to guitar and folk music, which led her to such iconic female singer/songwriters as Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Alison Krauss and the Indigo Girls, among others. On "The Lost Frontier," we hear these influences as well as flavors of electronic, world, pop and dance.

Of Korean and Yugoslavian descent, Ms. Malia exhibits a natural ease within the talented artist's powers of observation. Her travels around the world and interest in many cultures eventually led her to Sanskrit mantra chanting, which she describes as "simple yet extraordinary," and to which she attributes her sense of well being.

As an artist, her love of different cultures and music has helped distinguish her in styles ranging from pop to world/acoustic to electronic. Her own diverse and growing catalog of albums is complemented by work with iconic artists such as Carlos Santana, India.Arie, Bonnie Raitt, Kenny Loggins, Bassnectar, Jai Uttal and Idan Raichel.

R&B/Pop Talent Amira Releases Debut Single, "Sunny Day" From Upcoming Self-Titled EP

Bridgett McKenzie, Manager for the up and coming R&B/pop talent Amira, announced the release of Amira's new single, "Sunny Day". The track is the debut release from Amira's self-titled EP, which is slated for release early next year. "Sunny Day" is being made available to fans at no cost on Amira's Facebook page.

McKenzie is enthusiastic about both the release and the artist. "Amira is a breath of fresh air. She merges multiple genres into an R&B base with a soulful, smooth voice, and the combination is both powerful and unique. Her lyrics are meaningful and catchy, and she really takes pride in what she writes and sings. She's a great, clean cut artist whose music both children and parents can agree on, because it's good and it's positive." She continued, "Sunny Day" is a song that we're both very proud of. It has the same kind of vibe that Will Smith's "Summertime" has, and while it's soothing, you can definitely bump your head to it. Amira doesn't compromise when it comes to her music or career, and this song will prove that. She's a very versatile artist who is able to perform songs from many different genres and still produce a great track. In the next couple of weeks, fans will see another side of her on YouTube as she performs the cover for Taylor Swift's new song, "We Are Never Getting Back Together."

Critiquing the track, MusicDish said, "Sunny Day" is an R&B and pop mix that lifts your spirits and elevates your mood and day. ˜Sunny Day" was written by Amira, Kevin Jackson, Jr. (the son of 80's sensation, Stacy Lattisaw), and Bridgett McKenzie. Produced by Kevin Jackson, Jr., ˜Sunny Day" was recorded and mixed at Night Flight Studios in Fort Washington, Maryland. Download the single "Sunny Day" absolutely free at Amira's Facebook page.

JJ Schultz Releases 4th Studio Album

JJ Schultz released his fourth studio album, Carolina, on Saturday August 11th. Following his albums Bustin' Outa Town, Something To Me, and Traveling Songs, Carolina features a stripped down Americana sound, communicating one man’s struggle with love and manhood. With whiskey soaked lyrics, sparse guitars, and a heavenly Hammond B3, Schultz’s Western Roots music weaves a lush, intricate mood.

The album features a combination of Schultz's solo work as well as numbers with his full band. On the solo tracks, Schultz's relaxed and almost casual guitar picking is accompanied by some otherworldly Hammond licks played by Danny Eisenber (Tift Merritt, The Mother Hips, Ryan Adams). When joined by his band, Schultz lets loose and we hear once again the trademark guitar sounds of Scott Robertson and Jeff Cotton, the jazzy thump and bowing of Craig Koozer's upright bass, and Manny Bernal's understated and beautifully tasteful drumming.

Songs from Carolina include the rocking "Karma Come Early", a story about a newly unemployed farm laborer who comes back dish out a little karma. “Karma is just a song about a dude who got fired, and he's kind of upset,” Schultz explains. He explains more in the lyric "Come on now let's get started/Lord knows the river will flow/Come on now this poor man's hungry/Time to reap what you have sown", and the poignant "Alchemy", a wistful story about a man longing for a family - longing for "a house built by hand/on our own piece of land/for you and me/and our family band".

Schultz wrote the songs for Carolina over a three year span from 2007-2010 and recorded them over the following two years. Schultz self-produced the album, Roger Rocha (Four Non-Blondes, The Golden Hearts) provided the studio and engineering, and Michael Romanowski provided the mastering. Mark Tolsted, a Wisconsin based graphic artist, contributed the album design and artwork, as he has for all of Schultz's studio albums.

Originally from Northern Wisconsin, Schultz relocated to San Francisco in the late 90's. While his songs are deeply personal and pull from his life experiences, he cautions “The songs are not photo-realistic self portraits. When I write, I usually write a story, but the story is influenced by what I'm going through at the time”.

His band has been together since 2002. When not touring, Schultz commonly performs around San Francisco at venues including Hotel Utah, Cafe Du Nord, and Bottom of the Hill. His 2011 tour schedule included the main stage at San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury Street Fair.

Carolina will be available on Pandora, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, CD Baby, and at jjschultz.com. You may also purchase from a limited vinyl pressing. For more information on the release concert or ordering from the vinyl pressing, please visit jjschultz.com.
