Versatile Haitian American Singer/Songwriter Natalie Jean And Country Singer Levi Moore Release New Country Single

Natalie Jean and Levi Moore are excited to announce the much-anticipated release of their Country single, titled, 'The Letting Go.' The song is a co-write between Michael Peloso and Natalie Jean.

Produced by Alexi Von Guggenberg, is readily available for purchase nationwide at the iTunes Store, Amazon.com, Google Play, and various digital online stores.

"Music aside for a second, the songwriting is where things get personal - where things connect in a more intimate and communicable sort of way. Natalie Jean's smooth and gentle voice offers up the first verse - a certain delicacy that contrasts effectively with the thick drum line and the somewhat manic or anticipating guitar part. Her voice falls into the mix like another instrument, brightening things up, enhancing the ambiance. It's only really when you get to the satisfying resolve of the hook that the lyrics really start to take shape in your mind. The second and third times you listen you pick up on way more about the sentiment and the underlying ideas. It's an inspiring song, learning to move forwards is important - to get over and get on with things. The song hits with impact, it's powerful, and this concept is well represented."

"The set-up of one voice for the first verse and another for the second is not all that common in modern music. It works best when there's a noticeable contrast, a clear cut set of differences that lay out the two leading characters and their sides of the story or their input. Levi Moore's voice adds a gorgeous new dynamic to an already enjoyable and calming piece of music and writing. The two artists together offer so much passion and skill that their performances are mesmerising. The detail throughout this entire release is beautiful, it's a carefully crafted single that has been so well captured that you can listen on repeat and not get tired of the unfolding mightiness and magic. - Stereo Stickman"

"The song binds a beautiful tale of unforgettable love and the strength it bores into the mind and soul of a human body. This track flows over a logical explanation of feelings and relationship which is sure to inspire many young hearts. The audio quality of the song is quite high with keen attention given to making the song enjoyable for the audience."

"Brilliantly penned down by Michael Peloso and Natalie Jean, this track, 禅he Letting Go' is truly a masterpiece by Natalie Jean and Levi Moore. With so much talent and passion merging on a single platform, this track is already a memorandum in the world of amusing harmony. - Skope Magazine - Natalie Parker"

Natalie Jean is an award winning singer/songwriter performer and a dynamic artist who grew up loving music. She enjoyed singing with her Haitian father, Guy Robert Jean - who was also an artist. Levi Moore, is a country singer/songwriter out of Savannah, GA. He writes what he feels and sings from the heart, taking notes Jennings, but also influenced early on by the great songwriters of lore, like Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croce.

While having always craved the presence of music, he began creating music late, teaching himself to play guitar in the second half of my five-year college career, using music as a balance between football practice and midterm exams. Having been a storyteller and writer since elementary school, songwriting was a natural progression.

After 3 years, he left the oilfield to become a full-time musician, moving to Savannah, GA and plunging headlong into the coastal fray. After having been nominated for Male Vocalist of The Year in Modern Country at the 2017 Josie Music Awards, He is diligently working at my craft, gigging throughout the week, writing more than ever, and preparing to cut and release my first album this winter.

Michael Peloso is a New Jersey-based lyricist/songwriter who writes undeniably touching, honest lyrics with a sense of simplicity that are uniquely all his own. Other primary influences include Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Carole King, James Taylor, Natalie Merchant, Hall & Oates, Jude Cole, Ed Roland and Darius Rucker...Just to name a few of many. Michael collaborated with Natalie Jean. "Please Don't", a Josie Award nominated R&B track was released in 2016, and is a featured single on Natalie's Unafraid album. The duo released "Alive" on June 30, 2017. "Lost & Found is scheduled to be released this fall.

Most recently, "The Letting Go" won for best Americana Song in the Clouzine International Music Awards and is nominated in the Atlas Elite Entertainment Music Awards for Best Country Single

Award-Winning Band HERRICK Releases New Album Cottonfields

They are award-winning, and dancing on a multi-genre musical radar. And now, after the trendsetting self-made album, New Dance, Herrick is back with another ballsy opus.

Cottonfields was produced by Herrick and veteran producer David Walker. Vocalist Donna Herrick, along with husband and bass player, Kerry Herrick, guitarist Jefferson Rogers, and drummer Jeff Bradshaw, began writing for the album in early 2014. The result is an collection that offers a panoramic sonic experience, with a variety of themes, all wrapped in characteristic Herrick musicianship, showcasing Donna's power vocals with driving harmonies.

It is a kind of roots/rock Americana music that borders on folk literature.

Themes of empowerment, freedom, spirituality, the importance of preserving traditions and cultures are woven throughout Cottonfields. The title track is authentic American music. It is an intricate mix of primitive music that was brought here by immigrants, wanderers and slaves and was blended into a joyful language that changed the way the world thinks about music. Like others before them, Herrick explores a variety of musical influences and adds that distinctive Herrick touch.

"The uniqueness of this project comes not from one or multiple sources or backgrounds, rather, a comradery and respect in combining each of our roots, love of music, accompanied with a combination of a well rooted-progressive style that we, as a band, can call our own," says Kerry.

Herrick has become known for the band's high energy live performances. Herrick, winner of an IMA (Independent Music Award), is one of busiest touring acts on the road, and all of that mileage and direct fan contact has provided an excellent education for the band in what people love and want to hear.

"I think what people love about us is the energy we generate playing together and feeding off each other," says singer/songwriter Donna Herrick. "There's a lot of drive in our band, and we managed to capture that on this record. We love the music that we cut our teeth on and it'll always be part of us, but we've reached the point where we're consciously trying to push things forward."

Killer pipes and mold shattering songwriting come together in an album that transcends genre. The new album defines no-holds-barred by combining the very roots of American music with an openly rockin' and revolutionary flavor.

"It's roots music, a powerful type of folk literature. Woven into the songs are themes of empowerment, freedom, spirituality, the importance of preserving traditions and cultures," explains Donna.

Cottonfields represents a rite of passage for a band that is knocking on the door of greatness.

Cottonfields is available April 15. Pre-Orders are now available through iTunes and Amazon

John Fullbright - A Musical Force

Our Spotlight Interview Features Grammy Nominated Americana - Folk - Singer / Songwriter John Fullbright

SATURDAY, MARCH 5TH @ 7p.m.

His debut album "From The Ground Up" received a swarm of critical acclaim upon release including a GRAMMY nomination for Best Americana Album. The LA Times called the record "preternaturally self-assured," while NPR hailed him as one of the 10 Artists You Should Have Known in 2012, saying "it's not every day a new artist earns comparisons to great songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Randy Newman, but Fullbright's music makes sense in such lofty company."

His follow up album "SONGS" is living up to his debut album. It features "I Didn't Know", a song he premiered live at a concert hosted by Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, "When You're Here", a somber piano love song, and "The One That Lives Too Far", a raw account of the strain that distance can put on a romantic relationship.

With a keen ear for memorable melody and a unique approach to harmony, moving through chord progressions far outside the expected confines of Traditional Folk or Americana John Fullbright is a welcomed musical force.

The Max Fred Band Has Something More Just For You

Max Fred, Joshua Tate, and Keith McGeeney make up the Max Fred Band. Their debut album Something More is a trek through ten acoustic tracks with rich blends of harmonies and powerful, poignant lyrics. The trio tops it all off with their inimitable style of percussion behind an unplugged, acoustic exposé. Max Fred Band meld their style of retro-based Americana, alt-folk, and country, into soundscapes of retro-styled storytelling. They now have Something More just for you.

Within Something More, Max teams up with Joshua Tate and Keith McGeeney, to form the Max Fred Band, a trifecta of talent. Something More reflects the evolution of the band leader Max Fred's musical identity. He grew up with an unusually wide range of musical inspirations such as Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and Marvin Gaye. Additionally, acts like Nirvana and N.W.A. helped to shape Fred's diverse musical backbone.

Something More showcases Max's lyrical, vocal, and guitar prowess. He combines this with Joshua Tate's performance on upright bass and vocals, as well as Keith McGeeney's uncanny percussion. Together these three musicians create a captivating style and sound with their vocal harmonies and instrumentation. Max defines their sound as alt-folk, and adds, "There is much more behind this music than the description suggests." Max explains, "Our vocal harmonies, strong songwriting, and driving underlying beat provide a positive message." Max Fred wrote all the music and lyrics; Joshua Tate co- wrote with Max on "Suit." Max says, "Our songs explore a wide variety of topics including politics and love."

Something More contains ten tracks which range from mid to high-tempo, all based on an alt-folk flavor. The title track "Something More" is a mid-tempo tune with passionate lyrics enhanced by Max's powerful tenor vocals. "Banks" gives a higher energy display of quick finger picking with a bluegrass appeal, while "Never Felt So Good" brings out their folky feel and storytelling with its melodic musical phrasing. Something More is set to release on March 11th. There will be two release parties, the first of which will be held on March 11th in Kansas City at Mike Kelly's Westsider. The other release show will take place at Frank's North Star Tavern on March 12th, in Lawrence, Kansas. Fans will get a chance to see their real, raw acoustic performance live, and they can expect "Something More," from the Max Fred Band.

Inches From Sin "Bridgewater Triangle"

By Dana Saravia – Life-long rock & roller, current music critic and Girl From Baltimore | Steel Notes Magazine

Inches From Sin first got my attention last summer with their song "Laid My Heart Out". The song's blend of Americana and R&B combined with strong vocal harmonies stood out as unique and natural. Their album "Bridgewater Triangle" builds on that foundation as the band fuses genres and styles into a sound all their own.

"See You Again" is the album's opener. A mid-tempo song of post-breakup heartache, it's a fine introduction to the layered instrumentation and rich vocal harmonies to be found throughout the set. The second song, "Murder", features a near disco sound backing a strong vocal melody. This number also showcases the gorgeous harmonizing of singers Robert Brewer and Karen Holloway as well as allows each to shine individually by trading lead on the verses. The next song, "Out Of Reach", pairs a faster paced rock sound with socially aware lyrics regarding the media's fanning the flames of racism to incite fear while urging listeners to look past that and work together for a better world. "Move On" adds a pleasant mid 70s radio rock sound to lyrics about moving on to a new life from the ashes of heartbreak. "Hold On" is a slower, acoustic song that has a bit of a campfire feel to it with encouraging lyrics about relying on friends to get through life's tougher times. Karen Holloway sings lead on "Weight Of The World". A lovely song with a bluegrass bent and lyrics such as "Fighting all the rich man's wars" and "Breaks my heart/Breaks my back/All the weight of the world/Keeps coming back" that aptly describe the heaviness of realizing that people continue to allow petty differences to divide them instead of pulling together to create a better society. A strong message in a gentle song, both of the moment and timeless in both music and lyrics. "Laid My Heart Out" , a down-home, folk rock number about finding the bravery to be vulnerable and open with deeper feelings, is next. It also spotlights the band's fantastic vocal harmonies, as does "Be Good To Yourself" which immediately follows. The rougher edged "Suffering" is next. Though it doesn't quite gel as neatly as the other songs here, the ambition and willingness to push boundaries and blend varied musical styles the band shows is refreshing. "This Ring", the song that follows, shows the band at their experimental and original best. Robert Brewer sings lead on this bluesy folk rock blend with richly detailed lyrics about being emotionally, though not physically, unfaithful. The line "This ring burns a hole in my finger tonight" is sung with a depth of feeling and longing and helps make this song one of the best of the album. "Hit It One Time" starts out as a song with an alternative rock feel, unexpectedly grabs a stronger beat, then adds a slick, sexy rap to become something that wouldn't be out of place in a club or on modern urban radio. "Come Get Me" continues the hip hop feel and combines rapped verses with a sung chorus. With lyrics like "I've been waiting/Been waiting for you", this is a memorable and moving song about a father who longs to reconnect with his faraway child who has always remained close in his heart and mind. Strong rock guitar opens "14 Daughters", the edgiest song of this album. With its water and storm imagery and lyrics that refer to karma and nature, the music and lyrics create a strong blend that's reminiscent of Hendrix. A daring track that hits the mark and leaves a memorable impression. "I've Seen Better Days" pairs an acoustic alternative sound with lyrics about reconnecting with an old friend and finding emotional support in that bond. A sweet song and an appropriate way to close out this album.

Inches From Sin have a true gift for vocal harmony, as well as a unique sound and style that set them apart. "Bridgewater Triangle" showcases these elements throughout the album and even on the songs that don't quite gel, their passion and willingness to experiment shine through and mark them as a talented band to keep an eye on. Inches From Sin are bold, distinctive and unafraid to blaze their own musical path—it will be exciting to see where that journey takes them next.

Gary Lucas & Jann Klose's STEREOPTICON Album In Digital Stores

Guitarist Gary Lucas and singer Jann Klose's new album, STEREOPTICON is now out on Cosmic Trigger Records/The Orchard. This is a songwriter's album, probably most at home with fans of AAA, indie, acoustic folk-pop/"urban Americana" music.

Also active songwriters, Gary and Jann collaborated on songs over the past three years. Their friend Dan Beck, who has written with Dion DiMucci, the Iron City Houserockers, Felix Cavaliere, joined them as lyricist on 6 songs. In September 2014 and June 2015, Jann and Gary recorded 10 songs in New York City's premiere analog studio The Maid's Room.

STEREOPTICON can be found on all digital stores, including iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/stereopticon/id1065240432 and on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018ZPIXGE.

DCRocks' David Hintz writes about the album, "This is quite an exciting collaboration that makes a lot of sense. Lucas is more the veteran creative songsmith and Klose the younger, though well beyond rookie status, singer songwriter. They both understand the trippier original aspects to song structures with Lucas' resume bordering on unbelievable as he has worked with Captain Beefheart, Peter Hammill, and Bryan Ferry."

Music writer Arthur Levy posts of seeing Gary and Jann live at the Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3 in New York City, "Memorable night indeed, the Gary and Jann project exceeded all expectations, and what a great little music room."

STEREOPTICON is produced by Jann, Gary, and Dan, who call themselves "Dr. Tre." The album was engineered by Jack McKeever (Joan As Police Woman, Anna & Kate McGarrigle) and Jason Candler (Queen Esther), who also plays soprano sax on "Nobody's Talking" and tenor sax on "Well of Loneliness." STEREOPTICON was mastered by Ben Kesler (Robert Randolph and the Family Band).

Gary's co-written hits with Joan Osborne: "Spider Web," and Jeff Buckley's signature songs "Grace" and "Mojo Pin" from the singer's double platinum album, GRACE. He's worked extensively with Captain Beefheart. ROLLING STONE says Gary is, "One of the best and most original guitarists in America...a modern guitar miracle." He just received the Premio Ciampi Lifetime Achievement Award in Italy, named for one of Italy's most famous songwriters. In 2014, Gary received the Ambassador's Award for Cultural Diplomacy from the US Consul General of Milan. His long-awaited GARY LUCAS' FLEISCHEREI: MUSIC FROM MAX FLEISCHER CARTOONS will be released on Cuneiform, February 2016. He is currently collaborating with Steve Kilbey (The Church), and Chris Shinn (new lead singer of Live), and was (this fall) Music Director of "State of Grace," a multi-artist Australian tribute to Tim and Jeff Buckley.

Born in Germany and raised in Kenya, South Africa and the United States, Jann Klose is currently collaborating with Ann Hampton Callaway, Renaissance's Annie Haslam, Hall & Oates' John Oates and The Yardbirds' Jim McCarty. In 2015 Jann and his music appeared in the short film THE BEAUTY OF DISASTER (Glimmer Girl, USA) and the award-winning Australian feature documentary A VENUE FOR THE END OF THE WORLD (BrinkVision, USA). His most recent album, MOSAIC won three 2014 Independent Music Awards and charted for several months on the AMA and Roots Rock charts.

Gary and Jann both worked on the movie GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY (Tribeca Film/Focus/Universal). Jann is the singing voice of Tim Buckley, while Gary consulted and played guitar. Tony Award winner Frank Wood plays Gary in the film.

From Phoenix to Wisconsin: Midwest Soul Xchange Debut Album

The Midwest Soul XChange, a collaborative effort between long-time friends and Chippewa Falls, Wis. natives Ryan Summers and Nate Cherrier, will be releasing its debut album on November 24. 'New American Century' is an eclectic powerhouse of influence.

The Midwest Soul XChange describes their sound as Americana infused with folk, progressive rock, and pop influence. With a passion for acts like Kula Shaker, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and many more, the project is a vehicle to meld those stylings into a coherent, exciting new product. Even though Summers lives in Marshfield, Wisconsin and Cherrier lives in Phoenix, Arizona, the two were able to collaborate in Phoenix during the recording process.

Many times during the creation of 'New American Country,' the Midwest Soul XChange did have to collaborate over a great distance. "What comes to mind is a theme of 'flying blind with precision," Summers explains. "When you can't sit in the same room and hash out a song, you have to wait for the other person to record, upload, and see how the recording fits. It can be challenging if it wasn't what you were expecting, but also exciting."

"There were a lot of happy accidents..."

'New American Country' features eleven new original songs from the two performers. With such a broad spectrum of influence, however, the XChange is somewhat difficult to classify into a genre. 'Americana' is a suitable blanket for the effort, since it doesn't "pigeonhole them into one specific genre." The Midwest Soul XChange often classifies their material as "American Melancholia."

"We tend to write with a national/autobiographical sense," Cherrier detailed. "We consider the tales of our history as well as the harsher realities of today." The core recipe for that creation? The duo considers it a "sprinkling of protest, a dash of sass, a pinch of progressive, and a light glaze of folk."

'New American Century' will be available November 24 on iTunes and many other online services.

Americana Songstress Cashavelly Morrison Releases Debut Album 'The Kingdom Belongs To A Child'

Americana singer and songwriter Cashavelly Morrison has released her debut album 'The Kingdom Belongs to a Child'. Combining traditions of Appalachian ballads and melancholic lyrics that deal with her deeply held values, The Kingdom Belongs to a Child is a sorrowful album full of beauty and profundity. Backed up by acoustic guitar melodies played by her husband Ryan MacLeod, Morrison's lyrical voice perfectly delivers the emotional depth of her songs. Digital downloads, CDs, and double vinyls are available here: http://cashavellymorrison.com/store/

As demonstrated in her single releases 'Long-Haired Mare' and 'Pink Dress', which deal with women's and children's rights, The Kingdom Belongs to a Child is about giving a voice to those who are unheard or unseen. The lyrics also draw from Cashavelly's personal experiences through themes of loss, and are laden with imagery inspired by her childhood in a coal mining town in West Virginia. With her music, Cashavelly wants to explore the shared grief and ultimately emphasize compassion, empowerment, and healing.

The album has already garnished positive reviews, with Indie Minded describing it as a "deeply intelligent piece of Americana that represents the universality of human emotion." Indiemunity posited it as an instant folk/country classic, and Famous Last Words characterized it as commendable, and noted that the entire album was played out exquisitely.

Cashavelly Morrison Releases Debut Single 'Long-Haired Mare'

Americana folk singer and songwriter Cashavelly Morrison has released her first single "Long-Haired Mare". The song is a beautiful, atmospheric ballad with raw and painful lyrics. Paired with Morrison's bright and melodic voice, it forms a powerful contrast, giving the song much depth.

According to Morrison, she wanted to write a song about a mother who saves her daughter from abuse, but is ultimately punished for it. Being interested in systems of a family and the normalization of certain roles within the family, Morrison explores these themes in her lyrics.

Together with her husband Ryan MacLeod, who plays the guitar and composes music around Morrison's melodies, they form a folk duo with strong Americana atmosphere.

Her music blends the sounds of traditional American roots along with Appalachian ballads, deriving inspiration from her years of growing up in a coal mining town in West Virginia. For her, music is a way to address to racial prejudices in the U.S and the need for equal rights for women and children.

Cashavelly Morrison is currently working on her debut album The Kingdom Belongs to a Child, which will be out in September.

Sister Roots & Cowboy Boots Tour takes Jax trio to VIP lounge for Tim McGraw concert

The Crazy Daysies, a country/Americana trio based in Jacksonville, will play venues in three states as part of their ‘Sister Roots & Cowboy Boots Tour.' Starting at the Hammock Wine Shoppe in Palm Coast on June 6, the trio will perform at venues like Orlando Brewing (FL), the Surf Bar in Folly Beach (SC), and Catch 228 on St. Simon's Island (GA).

Included in the 12-city tour is a special performance in the acoustic VIP lounge at the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach. That performance is a featured act during set changes for the Tim McGraw concert at the Amphitheater where country artists Billy Currington and Chase Bryant will also perform.

From eclectic venues in small towns like Jasper, Florida, to Country Fest in the nation's oldest city of St. Augustine, The Crazy Daysies will bring their unique blend of country/Americana to audiences young and old.

The trio is composed of Rebecca Day (lead vocals, guitar), her sister Jennifer Day Thompson (viola and vocals), and Fernandina Beach percussionist Beau Littles.

Rebecca pointed to South Florida Country Music as an organization that is "a great outlet for Florida country musicians." She said SFCM put together the opportunity at the Tim McGraw event. She added, "Even though we are independent musicians, it doesn't mean we are on this journey alone. Organizations such as South Florida Country Music, and our independent label CBM Records, based out of Atlanta, help us to continue on a path of success."

Full details on all cities and venues on the tour are posted with updates on the trio's official website, thecrazydaysies.com.

Steve Cooke Celebrates 130th Labor Day Anniversary With The Release Of His Single "Working For The USA"

Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. This year is observing the 130th anniversary of its origin, when in 1882 Matthew Maguire, a machinist and secretary of the New York Central Labor Union (CLU) first proposed the Federal holiday.
“ I think it’s important to understand the civil significance of the labor movement in todays society. I know the public is struggling to find work and I’m just singing about people being able to support their families. I hope the movement will last well into the next 130 years,” says Cooke.

Sincere, ambitious and sometimes angry, he addresses the concerns of the working man, while proposing an overhaul of American family values.

To quote the Rolling Stones and Peter Frampton producer, Chris Kimsey, “This is a powerful political mass and middle/poor class identity anthem. It is raw and back to the roots, the thing that is resilient and soulful is the lyric, the song and the singer ”.

Produced and written by Steve Cooke, the song has a strong 12-string guitar influence with notes of pedal steel intertwining with the soaring Rock guitar riffs. The huge crescendos and emotional Goose bumps are likened to a blend of John Cougar Mellencamp, Keith Urban and Bon Jovi. Like the gifted storytellers before him, he will be blazing a wide and long trail upon the countries musical landscape.

It’s been a long wait for the backbone of America to hear an underlining message of unified faith and hope in a song. Cooke has successfully used this medium to pay tribute to the creators of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker.

Review: Americana/Folk Singer/Songwriter Brian Kalinec's Single "Nowhere At All"

Award-winning Houston, Texas based Americana/folk singer/songwriter Brian Kalinec's single, "Nowhere At All" from his new CD The Fence is a quality song that reflects on living life, and the things that matter - the simple things. Encouraging us not to take anything for granted, the song is beautifully composed and arranged, and features a nice small string section, and lyrical solo violin. There's steel string guitar with a beautiful finger style, and tasteful use of a shaker and percussion. The mix is not in your face, and the lead vocal weaves the lyrics with solid harmonies along with 2 other singers. The female's voice compliments the lead singer nicely. The drums keep it flowing tightly with a great arrangement. "Nowhere At All" is the kind of song that you'll want to listen to repeatedly, and will definitely pique your interest in hearing the full CD. This one is both musically and lyrically strong, and is solid throughout. Email: editor@mi2n.com

Texas Singer-Songwriter Brian Kalinec Releases A New CD: The Fence

Award-winning Houston Texas-based Americana/folk singer-songwriter Brian Kalinec’s new CD, The Fence, released in May, is the follow-up to Last Man Standing, his 2007 Berkalin Records debut. The Fence is a collection of stories in song that relate to the value of work and/or effort in one way or another. – from building a fence to cutting stone, from choosing a career over a relationship to losing a job, from homelessness to home repairs, from Teddy Roosevelt’s star-crossed river adventure in the jungles of South America to a woman whose life is forever affected by her boyfriend’s poor choices. In his descriptive and poignant, yet musically accessible songs that were penned over the last several years, effort is sometimes rewarded and sometimes ignored, and taking the easy way out usually leads to disaster. And sometimes the less fortunate are just simply ignored. “In this 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie’s birth, these songs resonate in our own times,” maintains noted folksinger-songwriter Tom Pacheco, who wrote the album’s liner notes. “I’m sure Woody would have loved them. [Brian] sings, writes, and plays so seamlessly that it feels these songs have always been there.” Indeed, the album’s title track, a song celebrating our spirit of self-reliance, took second place in the 2008 Woody Guthrie Song Contest. “Demons Falling Down,” another song on the album, captured first place in the Songwriter Serenade. A Beaumont native, Kalinec’s East Texas roots have combined with his urban experiences in Houston to form his own particular view of the world, which is reflected in his songs. “While I feel a strong connection to each of the album’s 11 original songs (including one co-written with Connie Mims), I have special empathy with the characters who find themselves in dire situations through no real fault of their own, as in “Stranger in this Line” and “Creosote,” says Kalinec. “It is also quite obvious that I value hard work,” he continues, noting that both “The Fence” and “Uncle Joe” celebrate the spirit of self-reliance. “However, we are each morally responsible to aid the less fortunate among us. I believe that is the true message here.” The CD also includes a cover of “A Song I Heard,” written by guitarist Maury Muehleisen, who died with Jim Croce in a plane crash before he could focus on his own career. Produced by Kalinec and veteran producer/engineer Michael Mikulka at Mikulka’s Lucky Run Studios, The Fence also features Merel Bregante (Loggins & Messina, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) on drums and percussion; Patterson Barrett (Jerry Jeff Walker, Buddy Miller, Nanci Griffith) on dobro, steel and mandolin; Rankin Peters on bass; Berkalin recording artist Matt Harlan, a rising star in the Americana and folk world and winner of the 2011 Telluride Song Competition; Mims, a prolific songwriter and former member of the group Wheatfield; Cathy -Anne McClintock, a Canadian-born multi-award-winning folk and Americana artist; Kerrville New Folk Finalist B. Sterling Archer on cello and trumpet on several tracks; Allisong Smith on backing vocals; Jeff Duncan on fiddle; Jeff Chambers on vocals; Carolyn Wallace on vocals; Jim Kam on Chapman Stick; Sandy Buller on bowed bass; and Bill Ward, Andi and Ren Renfree of the Texas Music Award-winning group Two-Bit Palomino contributing piano and vocals. Kalinec is past president of the venerable Houston Songwriters Association and co-produced its annual Sonny Throckmorton Songwriters Festival during the 1990s. He has been performing steadily for more than a dozen years, having been invited to perform at many house concerts, coffeehouses and festivals in Texas and across the U.S., including the famed Kerrville Folk Festival. In 2010, Kalinec participated in the “Shoulder to the Stone” project benefiting the Haitian relief effort and was among the artists on the compilation CD which was recognized as “Event of the year” during the 2012 Texas Music Awards. He also has been a winner in the Big Top Chautaqua Song Contest (2008) and a finalist in numerous other songwriting competitions, while his music has been featured on ABC News’ World News Now. A recipient of the “My Texan” Award at the 2012 Texas Music Awards for his support of the music and musicians of the state, Brian has produced a number of projects for other artists in addition to his own CDs. These include the late Tim Henderson’s final release, The Winds of Texas (2010). Henderson had said of Kalinec: “… Brian’s written a couple of songs that I’m plumb jealous of…” Copies of The Fence may be purchased online through www.mytexasmusic.com, www.amazon.com, and www.bestbuy.com. The prolific band Professor Louie & The Crowmatix have another fine release - this one is a combination of studio and live recordings.
Whispering Pines features 10 songs from their extensive repertoire including the youtube favorite title track Whispering Pines.

With Professor Louie handling the lion's share of the vocals as well as the keyboards, Miss Marie's singing & percussion, famed drummer Gary Burke, bassist Frank Campbell, and guitarist Josh Colow rounding out the Woodstock band, this collection kicks off with the timeless "Whispering Pines" written by Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson. With so many great rockin' tunes, the big finish is the stunning orchestral arrangement of "Melody of Peace" by Burke, Spinosa and Hurwitz, performed with the Prague Radio Symphony and Kuhn Choir, recorded in the Czech Republic after receiving the ERM/NAXOS composition award.
The artwork is very special on the Whispering Pines CD. Woodstock Records developed a Community/Work program with students of NYUlster College Design Department and together they created this beautiful CD package.
