Stevie Hawkins Wins Awards At 5th Annual Indie Music Awards - Los Angeles

Independent artists and songwriters, VIP guests, and personnel in the radio, film and television industries from around the world gathered for the indie music happening of the year, the 5th Annual Indie Music Channel Awards red carpet event at the legendary Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, April 24th, 2016.

The presentation of the awards was conducted on the stage of Clive Davis Theater inside the Grammy Museum, where Indie Music Channel artists gave dynamic performances.

Emphasis Records artist Stevie Hawkins, prevailed triumphant in two award categories, "Best Live R&B Performance" and "Best Live Blues Performance". Sharing the award for the R&B performance award are Victor Orlando, Grammy nominated percussionist to the stars and Miles Grayson, visionary producer-arranger-composer and pianist.

The Hawkins, Orlando and Grayson R&B accolade was garnered from their outstanding concert performance at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood for the 23rd Annual Los Angeles Music Awards and Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards mass media, press event and show. On the night, Hawkins, Orlando and Grayson rendered an exciting and energetic rendition of the indie hit "Bam", from Hawkins critically acclaimed award-winning album "What The Funk?”, written by Charlotte Hannon and Stevie Hawkins. Watch the award video: https://youtu.be/8e-4DuoGtGk

Hawkins' blues award win is for a song titled "Tribute To James Brown", recorded live in Atlanta, GA, written, arranged, performed and produced by Hawkins. The live performance captures Hawkins keeping soulful Rhythm & Blues alive by rendering a powerful heartfelt tribute to the incomparable Mr. James Brown. Hawkins and his band pay bone-deep homage to Brown's musical riffs, vocalizations, songs, audience participation, and social consciousness. When watching the accompanying video to the song, it is rather amazing to see Mr. Brown and his band dancing and grooving to Hawkins beat on drums and the rhythmic foundation churned out his band. It is truly a remarkable visual conveyance of the fluid authenticity of Brown's groove that was captured and performed by Hawkins and company. Watch the award and tribute video: https://youtu.be/mcbq3HdV-HY

When asked about his thoughts surrounding winning the awards, Hawkins conveyed, "This is the first time ever receiving awards for live performances and I am very proud of them. I'd like to extend sincere thanks to Mr. Christopher Ewing and the Indie Music Channel judges for the honor and recognition. Gracious thanks also to Mr. Miles Grayson for representing me at the IMC awards event. I am so honored to have had the opportunity to perform with Victor Orlando and Miles Grayson, and to win the award for Best Live R&B Performance with them as well. They are extremely talented individuals, wonderful caring people, and I thank them both for their friendship and for giving their all during our performance together at the Avalon Theater concert. The Blues award for "Tribute To James Brown" is an amazing and very special accolade to have the honor of being the recipient, due the source of the performance and its inspiration. James Brown was a visionary, an explorer, a pioneer, and is among the small elite group of the greatest artists, songwriters and entertainers of all time. He was a man who believed in himself and would never take no for an answer. He broke all the rules of music theory and structure, and by that, set new boundaries creating his own, the Brown theory. He heard musical riffs, melodies, grooves and orchestrations in his head, and conveyed those to his band, even though oftentimes the band didn't believe his ideas would work. However the concepts did work, and his music and legacy has proved just such. Not only did he give the world the gift of his music, but he also advocated for education and the betterment of society as a whole. Mr. Brown has been an inspiration to me for decades, and I am honored to have received an award by honoring him with my tribute song. I am in hopes that the video I put together for the song will be received in the light of a sincere tribute to Mr. Brown, because that's what it is. If in some way I can contribute to carrying his music and legacy forward, that is what I will do. May God be with you all."

The event was hosted and presented by Christopher Ewing, Emmy Award winning TV host, actor, model, and Indie Music Channel founder. As an actor, Ewing has appeared on such top rated shows as "All My Children", "One Life to Live" and others, plus over 80 radio & T.V. commercials. He has also been the narrator and /or spokesperson in countless industrial films for General Motors, IBM and many others.

Further nominees associated with Hawkins' creative team in the 5th Annual Indie Music Channel Awards were accomplished lyricist, Charlotte Hannon, who earned four "Best Song" nominations in the categories of Americana, Blues, Easy Listening and R&B. Irish recording artist and songwriter, John Breen, received a "Best Song" nomination in the Americana category along with Tim Crouch, a famed musician, songwriter and producer.

Emphasis Records managing director, Tom Stevens said, "Congratulations to Stevie Hawkins, Victor Orlando and Miles Grayson on your win at the Indie Music Channel Awards. I also congratulate the creatives of our label roster and music publishing division on their nominations. These individuals work hard at their craft, maintain a bar of creative excellence, an enthusiastic attitude, and render superlative works of lyrical and musical art. These individuals are a prime example of persistence, determination, and holding on to the dream. They are all winners in my book."

In the 1st Annual Indie Music Channel Awards Hollywood, Hawkins won the award for Best Blues Male Artist.

Stevie Hawkins' incredible career spans over 40 years as an artist, songwriter and producer, as well as playing drums for a variety of national and international recording artists. In very recent years, his musical works has garnered eight awards, global radio airplay, and sync licensing deals. He shows no sign of slowing down.

Runway 27, Left wins The Akademia Music Award for Best Blues Song

With critical coverage by German magazine 'Der Folker', playing their first concerts in Switzerland and two of their performances filmed full length by Austrian TV station Servus TV, 2015 was a fairly successful year for Runway 27, Left. Receiving their first award ever, The Akademia Music Award for Best Blues Song in the January 2016 Akademia Music Awards, the new year sees the acoustic blues duo make a head start. On the winning song, The Akademia thinks that "Aptly titled, 'Tex-Mex Food And Texas Blues' combines easy lyrical stylings with a cool electric guitar riff to create a great anthem for any merry bar scene."

On their current album 'Friends And Catfish', Lukas Weber of Planet.tt Magazine from Vienna, Austria, says that "Half of the album was recorded at historic Sun Studio in Tennessee, the other half in Berlin; the result is something to be proud of (to listen to). Editor's picks: 'Blue Sunday' & 'Talking To Myself'."

Radio personality Josep Palmada of the Red Hot Blues Radio Show on Radio Vilafant from Spain thinks that 'Runway 27 Left from Vienna (Austria) show a very personal approach to the blues. It's a duo consisting of Anthony 'Tone' Kammerhofer and Erich 'Weissfeder' Brandl, mainly influenced by blues, country, Rock'n Roll, Zydeco and Bluegrass. Their second album 'Friends And Catfish' was recorded in the USA and Europe, and all songs on the album are original songs. It's great work.'

With more than 80 performances from 2011 to 2015 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, acoustic duo Runway 27, Left's first album 'Weekend Warriors' was released on their label 'Weissfeder Records' in March 2012. The harbinger of their first album, radio-only release 'Flawed & Flattened', had already gathered radio airplay in the UK, the USA, Spain, The Netherlands, Australia, Germany, Austria and Macedonia.

Eventually, April and May 2012 saw their first, brief guest appearances upon invitation by local artists in Memphis, TN, and New Orleans, LA. February 2013 saw them back in Memphis, TN, for recording their first few songs for their upcoming second album at historic Sun Records Studio, further enhancing their strong bond with St. Blues Guitar Workshop, too. The second part of their second album was recorded in September 2013 at Tonbrauerei Studios in Berlin, Germany. In January 2016, Runway 27, Left received the Akademia Music Awards for Best Blues Song for 'Tex-Mex Food & Texas Blues'. Both albums, 'Weekend Warriors' and 'Friends And Catfish' are available on all respective download platforms worldwide.

Runway 27, Left is a blues project having former Trans Am/Sun Luca/Run Riot bass player Erich 'White Feather' Brandl and My Other Brother lead vocalist Anthony 'Tone' Kammerhofer team up.

The musicians (Erich Brandl - guitars, bass, backing vocals and Anthony Kammerhofer - lead vocals, rhythm guitars) try to reconnect with the roots of pop and rock music, calling their style 'In-Blues Entertainment'.

Runway 27, Left's concert schedule for spring 2016:

LOVE Garners 11th GRAMMY Award Nomination for Peter Kater, nominated for Best New Age Album in the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards

One might think that having ten previous GRAMMY® Award nominations would mellow Peter Kater's excitement about the GRAMMY Awards, but to him, every album is unique, every nomination an honor. This year, his peers in The Recording Academy nominated Love for Best New Age Album for the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards, to be aired on CBS at 8 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2016, live from Los Angeles, CA. Love is the artist's first solo piano album in over a decade; it was released by Mysterium Music (Hanover, PA) on May 5, 2015.

Speaking from his Santa Monica, CA home, Kater shared, "I'm so excited to be once again nominated for the prestigious and elusive Grammy Award. I really barely slept last night in anticipation of this morning's announcements. I'm very moved by the support of my peers and touched that a solo piano album so close to my heart and so essential to my creative expression has received this great honor. In this album, I feel that I was able to express what is deep within my heart where words fell short and seemed colorless in comparison. After all, what is more compelling, alluring, mysterious, powerful and transformational than LOVE?"

Kater, now an 11-time GRAMMY Award nominee and multi-platinum selling pianist and composer, has been a leading innovator of New Age and Contemporary Instrumental music for over three decades. He has performed all over the world, including the at United Nations and Carnegie Hall, has released over 60 critically-acclaimed CDs, scored the music for over 100 television and film productions as well as for eleven on and off-Broadway productions. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many of the world's most-talented musicians, actors and directors and is a proud recipient of many awards and honors including the Environment Leadership Award from the United Nations. His full biography, music and videos are available at www.PeterKater.com

Love is a collection of seven composed pieces and six improvisations that share the common theme of love and its many wonders and emotions. Captured over a period of three years, the album is romantic yet poignant, with lush graphics and liner notes bordering on poetic. Kater bares his soul, explaining the basis or inspiration for each piece, giving deeper and more personal insight into the music. Alone at the piano, he explores the many facets of love, not just the more common musical themes of romance and infatuation. He also encompasses hurt, loss and healing as well as the love of self - a much more mature approach that translates beautifully into Peter's unique and distinctive musical language.

Critics have called Love "one of his best albums ever" with Hypnagogue Reviews recently writing, "New Age piano fans need to hear this. The quality and beauty of all of Kater's work is a well-known quantity and this return to the simple beauty of solo piano will surely please his existing fans while making new ones."

The year 2015 has been a highly meaningful and memorable one for Kater. Just before releasing Love, the horrific earthquake in Nepal occurred on April 26, and Kater immediately decided that the release of Love should serve a higher purpose. With the full support of Mysterium's founder, Trisha Bowden, the label donated all proceeds from the album's first week of downloads to the American Nepal Medical Foundation's 2015 Earthquake Relief Fundraising Campaign. In May, Kater was honored with the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award by the Zone Music Reporter Awards & Gala in New Orleans, and feted by friends from around the world in a touching tribute video (https://youtu.be/lmuY52rGayA). In July, Kater joined Nawang Khechog (Tibetan Flute) and Michael Fitzpatrick (Cello) in creating a musical "Long Life Prayer" in honor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's 80th birthday, produced by the Panchen Lama Tashi Lhunpo Project (https://youtu.be/mTIQvYpDBBE).

Bowden commented on the nomination this morning, saying, "It is with great honor we salute Peter Kater on his 11th GRAMMY nomination. The incredible depth of his creativity, and his devotion to meaningful and compassionate causes close to his heart, brings a beautiful energy to the new age music community and to Mysterium Music. We are truly Blessed to share his Love album with the world."

Love is Kater's fourth recording with Mysterium Music, the Hanover-PA based label founded by vocalist Trisha Bowden for the creation and networking of music for the healing arts and integrative medicine. Mysterium's music is in use for hospice care and in cancer centers, and in the treatment of PTSD and sleep disorders among many other modalities and health care areas. The label has received multiple awards in the area of healing/meditation music, now totaling four GRAMMY Award nominations with this year's nod to Love.

Mysterium's first release with Kater, Light Body, was both GRAMMY nominated and awarded Best Relaxation Meditation Album by the Zone Music Radio Awards. Light Body was followed in 2013 by Illumination, which earned Mysterium its second GRAMMY Award nomination (and Kater, his ninth.) In 2014, Kater reunited with acclaimed Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai for Ritual, their first collaboration in over ten years, resulting in a third GRAMMY Award nomination for Mysterium, and a win for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the Zone Music Awards.

The GRAMMY-nominated album, Love, is for sale as physical CD or digital downloads from Mysteriummusic.com, Peterkater.com and fine music stores everywhere, including but not limited to Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby.
