Legal lyric solutions for nearly 2 million tracks across 20 markets now available with LyricFind
LyricFind, the world’s leader in legal lyric solutions, today announced that it has signed up the global rights for song lyrics from all four major publishers: EMI Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing Group, Warner/Chappell Music Publishing and Sony/ATV Music Publishing. This is the first time that licenses from all four major publishers have been commercially available on a global basis.
Speaking of the decision to partner with LyricFind, Andrew Jenkins from Universal Music Publishing Group said: “We’re really excited to partner with LyricFind so that services across the world have an additional source from which they can legally access lyrics from our top songwriters. We look forward to working even more closely with LyricFind in the future to continue to make legal lyrics available to everyone worldwide who wants them.”
Brahim Ait Ben Larbi, Vice President Business Affairs Europe, EMI Music Publishing continued: “We are delighted to have extended our deal with them on a global basis. EMI Music Publishing is always looking for opportunities to partner with forward thinking, innovative companies who can maximise opportunities for our writers’ music or, in this case, lyrics to reach fans all around the world in as many compelling and creative ways as possible. LyricFind have developed a really interesting service which does just that.”
Darryl Ballantyne, CEO and founder of LyricFind, added: “’Lyrics’ is one of the most popular search terms online, and we’ve seen increased integration of lyrics into websites, music services and applications since we first launched in 2004. For the major publishers, LyricFind is the ideal partner to allow their lyrics to be used by services across the world. We’ve created a proven quality-controlled database that makes it simple for them to make their lyrics available, and most importantly, easily manage the revenue stream from opening up these lyrics.”
Alongside the licensing deals with the major publishers, LyricFind has also signed worldwide deals with several key independent publishers including Kobalt. These licenses expand on LyricFind’s existing deals with over 2,700 publishers in the United States, allowing LyricFind to offer the most complete catalogue around the world.
With these licensing deals, LyricFind will now be offering its solutions to clients in 20 significant territories including USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Korea, Russia and India. Clients of LyricFind include Universal Music’s artist sites (such as Lady Gaga), Slacker, Shazam and Microsoft Bing, and these global deals will allow such services to hugely increase the catalogue of lyrics that they can showcase for their customers.
Ted Cohen, digital music evangelist/consultant and member of LyricFind’s board of directors, ended: “These global deals will allow LyricFind to be the first company worldwide to allow access to the song lyrics from not only the four major publishers but thousands of influential independent publishers as well. From starting as a boot-strapped company by three Canadian university students, I’m hugely proud of the achievements that the LyricFind team has made, and I’m excited that I’ve been able to help them craft such high-end licensing agreements.”
