Ben Dunham Partners With Award-Winning Songwriter Dave Gutter On New Single, Talkin' Down

Producer and musician Ben Dunham announced today the release of his single, "Talkin' Down," on Friday, February 16, 2018. The exclusive release party will be hosted at Sweet Melissa's, 4 Langdon Street, Montpelier, Vermont, at 9:30 p.m. The release party will feature original live music and is open to the public. Recorded at The Halo Studio in Portland, Maine, "Talkin' Down" was written by Dunham with vocal collaboration from Dave Gutter, the frontman of Rustic Overtones, a psychedelic rock band out of Portland, Maine. Dunham's partnership with Gutter began after he received a stylistic comparison to the artist during the promotion of his latest album, The Backline Collective, which was released in July of 2017.

The punchy, polished track comes in just under four minutes and captures raw, dark emotions. According to Dunham, "The single was inspired by how our thoughts and words carry more weight than we may realize and how people's personal struggles often make it easier to bring others down."

Beyond partnering with 13 artists on his first album, Dunham has worked and toured with an impressive roster of musicians, such as the hip-hop funk band Dysfunkshun, Madou Dembele, and now Dave Gutter. He hopes to keep the collaborations coming in his second album, a continuation of the Backline Collective, which will be released later in 2018.

On his partnership with Gutter, Ben said, "I have been a big fan of Dave for a long time now, so I was excited to get to partner with him on my newest single. Dave has worked with many big names like Bowie, Aaron Neville, Gramatik, and Eric Krasno. For him to take the time to work with me was incredible, and I think our hard work comes through in the single."

Hybrid Studios Hosts Annual NAMM Afterparty

Hybrid Studios hosted its fourth annual NAMM afterparty, Hybrid Happy hour 2018, at their Santa Ana location on January 26th. Presented by Stacks FX, Towne Park Brewery, The Arts & Learning Conservatory, and Angeline Vineyards & Winery, with Genelec, Lewitt, and Applebox Network, the sold out event featured an In-n-Out food truck, open bar, and performances from Bearwulf, The Shakes, and Bird & The War. Complimentary shuttle service to and from the Anaheim Convention Center was available throughout the night to make travel simple for NAMM attendees and convention sponsors.

"We were thrilled with the turnout again this year," said Hybrid Studios Manager, Mike Miller, "The party is an opportunity for NAMM attendees to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the convention, have some drinks, relax, and listen to some great music. It also gives our industry sponsors a chance to show and discuss their products in their natural environment. We had Stacks FX in Studio B, while Lewitt and Genelec shared the control room in Studio A. Our alcohol sponsors were a huge hit as well. We can’t thank Towne Park and Angeline Vineyards enough for providing their amazing products for the party."

Every year Hybrid Studios tries to improve and add new elements to the annual event. For 2018, the studio implemented a live stream of the event on Hybrid's Facebook page through Applebox Network, a resident partner of the Santa Ana production facility. Applebox host Kevin Allen interviewed Lewitt Founder and CEO, Roman Perschon, Genelec's Eastern Territory Sales Manager, Paul Stewart, and Bearwulf front man, Rob Gravely. Singer/Actor Ronny Cox Wins RoundGlass Award

RoundGlass Music Awards has announced Ronny Cox the winner in the Best American Roots Song category for his song "Bus To Baltimore".

The Awards took place at the Edison Hotel in New York City on Friday, Jan. 26.

Other winners at the RoundGlass Music Awards included Ringo Starr & Friends for Now the Time Has Come - (Song of the Year and Best Pop Song), Jessica Kelly for Little Thing - (Best Music Video) and Kato Hafez for Belad ElAkhlaq (Land of Morals) - (Best Rock Song).

Music And Kids Joins Forces With Carnie Wilson, With Plans To Provide One-on-One After-School Music Education To Thousands Of Middle And High School Students

Music and Kids (www.musicandkids.org) is a newly-formed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization started by singer-songwriter and performing artist Chuck Murphy, who resides in Palmdale, California, in the heart of the Antelope Valley. At the 2017 Almond Blossom Festival, Chuck Murphy was presented with the Quartz Hill Chamber's Person of the Year Award for his service to the community. Murphy's tradition of service continues with the formation of Music and Kids and its contributions to the communities in the Antelope Valley and beyond.

The mission of Music and Kids is to bridge the growing gap between government-funded educational programs in music and private funding.

In keeping with their mission, the first initiative by the Music and Kids organization involves providing one-on-one, after-school music instruction to 1,000 middle and high school students starting in the Antelope Valley of California and expanding to Southern California. To get this started, the first promotion, the Jr. Star Search Competition, will be a karaoke-style singing competition at the Almond Blossom Festival, hosted by the Quartz Hill Chamber of Commerce, on March 10th and 11th, 2018 in George Lane Park, Lancaster, CA. The Jr. Star Search Competition will involve 50 student performers enrolled in grades 6-12 (ages 12-18) in schools located in the Antelope Valley and 10 six-month scholarships will be awarded at the event. Registrations will be accepted through February 9, 2018. The application can be found online at www.musicandkids.org.

Joining Music and Kids as a celebrity judge for the Jr. Star Search Competitio is Carnie Wilson of multi-platinum award winning Wilson Phillips and Love Bites by CarnieŽ (https://lovebitesbycarnie.com).

A second promotion is planned for the Coachella Valley region of California later in the spring of 2018.

Music and Kids will expand these efforts throughout Southern California and eventually nationwide in coming years. As the program expands, Music and Kids will visit schools all over the United States to raise awareness of the number of opportunities there are for performers as players of musical instruments or singers; or the support team as songwriters, recording engineers, and producers.

Music and Kids will be looking for the flowers in the field -- the students that are already standing out with their natural musical ability that may or may not be getting the ongoing education to develop their talent. Music and Kids will then help guide the students and parents with information and assist with scholarship funding when funds are available.

Music and Kids will join with communities to develop ongoing programs and events to continue the awareness for the need for music, music education, and the love a community can build through music.

The Almond Blossom Festival and the Jr. Star Search competition are free and open to the public, so Music and Kids relies on corporate and other community partners to provide volunteers to help defray costs and to contribute funding to the Music and Kids on-going one-on-one music program. Singer/Songwriter Mandy Bon Releases "Traffic Jams" EP

Singer/Songwriter Mandy Bon has released 'Traffic Jams,' an EP made up of four original songs sharing the artist's insights into the ups and downs of life. Each song on the EP, 'Super Glue,' 'LA Traffic', 'Only A Fake' and 'Saying Goodbye', have corresponding music videos that can be seen here. The objective of the EP is to gain the artist representation by a major or independent record label.

Unsure
Bon, a music major who plays piano, guitar and ukulele, decided to compose original music that reflected being a young twenty-something musician wondering aloud about her life path. "I get lots of ideas driving in L.A. traffic," says Bon. "A lot of songs come to mind." 'LA Traffic' highlights Bon being scared of commitment but willing to take the risk when she first started dating her future husband. "I was feeling very unsure about the direction of my life, was very nervous, I think people can relate," says Bon. "Kiss me in LA Traffic Take it slow we'll keep it classic Don't know where we're going But I'm not running away from You... You, me, and LA."

Getting Stuck
Another song on the EP titled 'Only A Fake' chronicles the universal frustration of getting stuck, with the anger being vented on oneself. "I wrote this when feeling very discouraged," says Bon. "In the end, the song is about pulling yourself out of that hole and keep stepping forward. Things will get better, even if at first it doesn't feel that way. We all have moments where we compare past with present." "Guess I'm only a fake Nice and neat for a day Pack away my mistakes Guess I'm only a Fake."

Uke Ballad
'Super Glue' is a ukulele-propelled ballad of love written to Bon's husband. The corresponding music video has the artist playing uke while flipping boards highlighting both her art and lyrics. "And I like you, even when I bug you, and actually I love you, alot!"

Collaboration
Bon hooked up with violinist Maile Hutchinson to breathe life into 'Saying Goodbye', "an honest song poured out of me when I felt absolutely devastated." "I'm a mess Watch me cry Driving home Dripping Sky." "Ok, so basically a very cheery song," adds Bon with a laugh. For the EP, Bon composed, recorded and mixed each track. Bon also helmed most of the music video production herself.

Hej America!
The other day my friends at Bongo Boy sent me a preview copy of a new double album they are releasing. The name of the album is The 60th FYC Album and features talented Independent Artists were on the 1st Grammy Awards® ballot and is releasing THE 60th FYC album(cd). Talented, indeed, as I scroll through the roster of names on the track list I see some of my personal favorites.

DISC 1
1. Paula Boggs Band - Benediction 4:07 - Man, you have to dig the bass that starts off this track. One would have to be totally devoid of soul to not feel the groove. The piano that comes in is excellent. Paula's band proves that a band can be laid back and still rock! Lest you think the only thing that rocks are the musicians playing instruments, I would be delinquent in my role as a music critic if I did not mention that Paula has a God-given gift with her voice! In other words, she blows my mind.

2. Acoustic Radio - Better Man 3:54 - Next up is Acoustic Radio. This is a County jam that really reminds me of the old Allman Brothers' Band. For those of you have dismissed Country as being the lame music of ‘fly over states', listen to this song and tell me the man cannot sing and the guitar does not rock! Rock it does! Lest we forget, Rock and Roll is, in its essence, a blending of the blues which came from Africa and was changed into the blues in North America and Country which is connected to connected to the immigrants from Scotland and Ireland who settled in Appalachia. The combination of these two genres gave birth to a form of music that changed the world. Coming from the Country side of Rock and Roll, Acoustic Radio greatly contributes to the canon of music we all enjoy.

3. Elise Lebec - Queen of Light 4:36 - Man, I dig that percussion that starts off the track, before what sounds like a violin comes in with the melody. The focus, for me anyway, is on Elise's beautiful voice. Naturally, the players with her play as well as she sings, and I am a sucker for strings played well, but I just cannot get past that voice. Simply put, I feel like I have heard an angel backed by a smoking rhythm section with a violin player who can make the instrument talk. My only complaint is that at just over four and one-half minutes, the song ends too soon.

4. Martha Reich - The River 4:38 - This track starts with some beautiful keyboard work which is accentuated by some very nice strings. Martha's voice is nothing short of sublime. I am not really sure what genre of music this is, so I will simply call in "beautifully played moving music" In other words, if my dentist played Martha's music it would ease my sense of dread each time I visit him. This truly is a very beautiful song.

5. Donna Scott - Carnival 4:31 - Oh yeah, I dig the funky into that leads off with some wicked percussion. Then a jazz piano kicks in and I realize that this is essentially a Jazz piece. Now, in full disclosure, I usually loath Jazz. The reason is simple envy. I am an old Punk rock drummer and as such have difficulty counting beyond four. I cannot put my finger on it, but I am able to see what Donna and her wicked rhythm section is doing. I am actually able to follow this track and I find myself grooving to it. By the end of the song I have the big goofy grin I get when I really like something. When you add Donna's great voice over the band of massive players who are without a doubt enjoying themselves, you end up with a very special song.

6. Big Bone Daddy - All My Time 5:10 - Big Bone Daddy is one of my all time favorite Bongo Boy artists and I am very happy this song is included on this album. You MUST listen to this track. Each time I listen to this track, which is often, I swear it is a cover, but for the life of me I cannot place it. I am reminded of Procol Harum, but I am also reminded of the first music I ever really spent time listening to, that is Motown. Having been raised in Detroit, this was the music that was in the water. Everything out of Detroit has been touched by Motown (Yes, even Nugent lists Motown as a major influence.) and this track would fit right in. I swear this song should have been, (if it wasn't,) in the movie The Big Chill. Excellent work guys. I am emotionally moved each time I listen to this track.

7. Murat Ses - No No More 3:52 - Now, for something completely different. This track is a heavy synth track. Murat Ses is nothing if not energetic. This track is sure to get the dancers and ravers up and moving. She has a good voice and the song does groove. I particularly enjoy the sections of the song in which the bass is accentuated.

8. Maryann - Hips, Lips & Eyes 3:13 - Good God, I dig Country with a sense of humor. The song starts out with a Country vibe, before going into a Jerry Lee Lewis type of 50s Rock and Roll. The old-school horns in the background totally rock! Man, I hope those cats are wearing fedoras and shades. The thing that gets me are the lyrics. Ok, ok, Maryann does indeed sing well, in fact the song would suck if she didn't, but what I really like is this is an old-time seduction manual. I want to hang with Maryann!

9. Laura Ainsworth - The Man I Love Is Gone 4:18 - Man, oh man, what a voice!! Where does Bongo Boy find all of these fantastic female vocalists. This is a Jazz/Blues track that just demands to be played in a smoky underground club at 3:00 AM. But, wait there is more, the horn man is incredible. This is such a subtle groove, the drummer is using brushes, yes brushes! Talk about laid back intensity, this track is blisteringly cool in a 40s pre-Rock and Roll sort of way. Excellent work!!

10. Ricky Persaud Jr. - Reggae Blues 3:36 - Rick, I am a huge fan! For those who don't know Ricky is nothing short of a genius. He is a master of many instruments and I don't even think he has turned 20. This song is no exception. The intro builds into a thundering blast of sound that would make Clapton proud. I swear with those blistering notes, I hear a little Eddie Van Halen influence as well. Then the listener realizes that this is a Reggae song, but the kind of Reggae Carlos Santana would play. Complex, heavy, incorporating horns and spot on - as close to perfection as a recording can get. I really hope to see Ricky in person someday.

11. Maryann - Transparent World 2:57 - Maryann is back, and I am really digging the guitar intro. Those chords rock. Then her voice comes in and BOOM, there it is, ROCK -N- ROLL. The drums are heavy; the man knows how to pound. The guitar just lays down chord after chord in an excellent riff. I am not sure if this is a religious song, but in all honesty, I could not care less. She could be singing Pink Fluffy Unicorns Dancing on Rainbows for all I care. The music and her voice are incredible. I still want to hang with Maryann!

12. Vikku Vinayakram & The Selvaganesh Family - Guru Stotra ft. Siddhant Bhatia 6:01 - This is an interesting song. As he is not singing in a language I understand, I have no idea what he is singing. I can say that he has a good voice. I dig the percussion. I am reminded of when the Beatles went to India. There is a definite groove here and he seems to be rapping or at least trading licks between his voice and the percussion. Overall, this is a very interesting song.

13. Ingrid Nomad - No Mind 5:10 - We are back to something I am a little more familiar with. This sounds like a Cool Jazz track to me. The sound effects made by the extended cymbal ringing are cool and add to the atmosphere. The players are all very good with the bass and piano dominating the instruments. Ingrid has a magnificent voice that I really enjoy. Overall, this is a very mellow groove and I dig it. In fact, as the piano takes the lead, I am surprised how much I dig this song. I have the same feeling I had the first time I heard Traffic's the Low Spark of High Healed Boys, although the piano in this track is a bit more on the Jazz side, I am still captivated.

DISC 2
1. Frank Piombo - Keep It Movin'4:02 - Album two starts off this a jazzy piece that could have been featured at Studio54 back in the day. The players are all very good and the guitar does open up with a slightly effect-laden solo, before the horn steps up and blows some wicked notes. Then about two minutes fifteen seconds in the band changes tempo slightly in what turns out to be a bridge, before going back into their own version of Jazz Funk. It's cool Frank, you have kept my attention which is difficult to do and, really, I like your song!

2. Maryann - HITF 060617 3:50 - Maryann is back again. Man, this band just does not quit. This time out they are showing that they can play Pop tracks as well. The thing is that this is really good Pop, that could be an earworm. I have come to the conclusion that Maryann is simply a very talented and versatile band whom I really would like to see in person. Any chance you will be in Sweden this summer?

3. Beto Hale - The Only One 4:26 - This is a very sensitive song that is sure to make your girlfriend happy. Musically, there is enough guitar and the bass/drums are locked in, so I think a lot of guys will dig it too. I am reminded of Eddie Money. I remember, my girlfriend saying that Two Tickets to Paradise was so sensitive and beautiful and all I could think was "Yeah, and that guitar rocks."

4. Jordan Green - Take A Ride 2:57 - Jordan Green has scored a major hit with this Country/Pop jam. Jordan has a good voice and the absolute Country backup singers add to the song. Then at about the 1:40 mark Jordan opens up and shows the world what Country Rock guitar sounds like. Overall, this is an excellent jam that I will be listening to in my car as I curve around these mountain roads.

5. Ban Brothers - Tumi Bhorer Paakhi (female) 5:14 - This is another very interesting song, as I do not understand the language in which she is singing. What I do understand is what their stringed instruments are doing. I say stringed instruments, because I am not 100% sure what is being played. It sounds like a guitar, but as this is a type of music I have never heard, it could be some exotic instrument that I am not familiar with. In any case, the strings, the percussion, and her voice all combine to make an interesting, as well as infections song that demands a second listen.

6. Kathryn Shipley - Shine Your Love 3:53 - I dig the old 60s organ combined with the guitar that starts out what seems to be a rocking spiritual. Kathryn has a very good voice and the soulful background singers add to the groove. Man, if this is what Kathryn's church sounds like, sign me up. Growing up Lutheran, I feel ripped-off, our church had sucky music. If we had had music like this I might have paid more attention.

7. Armen Balyan - Fiya 3:01- Well, this is different from the last track, but it is cool nonetheless! Basically, Armen is jamming on a synthesizer while singing all about fire. I think the underlying theme is that life is difficult, but as long as we are here we might as well have fun, just be careful and don't get burned. Overall, Armen, you get an A+ for creativity!

8. Deborah Henriksson - Whisper 3:54 - Deborah, my fellow American-raised Swede, is one of my favorite artists on Bongo Boy. The reason is simple. She has an excellent voice! I could listen to Deborah all day. I really like the subtle lead guitar in the middle of this track, but it is Deborah's voice that is captivating. I defy anyone to this track and tell me it isn't beautiful. (Deborah, how about a fika this summer?)

9. Kama Ruby - Treasure Island 4:09 - This is another mellow song with a tremendous female vocalist out front. If I were Bongo Boy, I would seriously consider sending out Mandy, Deborah, Kama, Queen Sheba and your other fantastic female artists out on the road for a "Voices from Heaven" tour. Kama, too, has an excellent voice and I will be listening to this track many times.

10. The Two Tens - Keeping Hope Alive 3:10 - BOOM this track hits you square in the face right from the start. I really like good Pop/Punk and this, folks, is exactly what this music is. The music is far from complex, but it is played so incredibly well. Their singer has the perfect voice for this type of music and the band is very tight! I cannot help but think that these guys are really enjoying themselves. Their live shows must be incredibly energetic and a lot of fun!

11. Maryann - Life - "Thank You" 2:46 - Maryann, I am really becoming a huge fan! The bass intro is ultracool. The vocals are gritty and emotionally intense. This could be, quite easily, the best song Maryann has on the album. Excellent work!

12. Shea Welsh - Slowly Falling ft. Michelle Coltrane 4:52 - Very nice guitar work starts out the song. Then the vocals come in and I am thinking Bongo Boy should add another act to the "Voices from Heaven" tour. The band is laying down a mellow groove with enough flash to keep everyone interested between verses. All in all, this is a good song, by a group of talented players and a woman who can really sing.

13. Kala Ramnath & Ojas Adhiya - Om Namah Shivaya 9:06 - I am reminded of the Beatles in India again as this track starts. It is definitely interesting and the drone in the background keeps my attention. Then a funky beat is laid down by the percussionist and I find myself trying to figure out what he is doing. This song does groove, and I think it would groove much more if I were in Colorado now…

So, folks what is the bottom line? Simple, this double album is more than worth the purchase price. Bongo Boy Records is capturing the moment that talented Independent Artists were on the 1st Grammy Awards® ballot and is releasing THE 60th FYC album(cd). MarilynMusic Places Five New Songs With Altino Music

Casey Conrad and Michael Gaines of MarilynMusic are happy to announce the placement of five new songs from their catalogue with new Scottish artists "Chayniq," produced by Altino Music.

Papa Jube aka John Altino has managed Wycleff Jean for many years, as well as producing numerous successful records internationally. Papa Jube and Conrad have been friends and collaborators for years.

Altino Music has produced hits for platinum artists such as Beyonce, Justin Beiber, Neo, and Mary J. Blige.

"It was interesting that Altino Music chose such an eclectic variety of MarilynMusic's songs," Conrad mused adding, "it reflects the versatility of the artists."

KAYA KENYATTA Is Comin' To Get You - But Luckily Your 'Time Ain't Up'!

Don't panic though as this sublime track actually has a positive message. 'Time Ain't Up' was inspired as Kaya Kenyatta found himself, amongst others, caught up in the financial crash, which had a huge affect on his career to become a trainee solicitor. It questions the concept of the 'American Dream', which all westerners seem to have adopted; forsaking all others for personal gain! 'Time Ain't Up' is in fact a statement...which we all need to take heed of, reaffirming that no-ones time is up until you're in fact 6 feet under, and that none of us should let others prevent us from chasing and achieving our goals. Kaya Kenyatta's way of getting this message across in 'Time Ain't Up' is worthy of critical review for sure. This is reminiscent of Eminem's early work...but on the next level! Trust me!

Kaya Kenyatta grew up listening to Hip Hop stalwarts such as 2Pac, Young MC, NWA, Immortal Technique, Ice Cube and Dr Dre to name but a few, and one can instantly tell that the old school influences are deep rooted, however his other big inspiration was Bob Marley; and the revolutionary traits that Kaya Kenyatta picked up on can be felt within his music. He also took note of what cutting edge producers were doing during his earlier years; citing Timbaland, DJ Premier, Kanye West and The Prodigy as having a huge part to play in his musical journey.

Born in Belgium to an English father and Belgium mother, Kaya Kenyatta studied at English and International schools, which exposed him to so much that the world had to offer at such a young age. I believe this had a huge part to play in forming such a versatile and well rounded musician. Kay Kenyatta started to spit bars during his university years and continued when he moved to Canada, where he also began producing for a number of years, before returning back to the UK. Runway 27, Left: Planned Release Of Third Album 'Triple Story' In Spring 2018

The release of Runway 27, Left lead guitarist Erich 'White Feather' Brandl's German-language autobiography 'So schaut's aus' (in English: 'This is where it's at!') in February 2017 was followed by the blues duo's first-ever performances in Great Britain (in April 2017) and appearances at bigger open-air venues in July (Haslach im Kinzigtal, Germany) and September (Volksstimmefest Vienna, Austria). While on tour in Britain, the duo seized the opportunity of recording for their third album 'Triple Story' due to be released in spring 2018. Eventually, whole-page articles were published on Runway 27, Left by acclaimed magazine 'Blues in Britain' (in October 2017) and on lead guitarist Erich Brandl by employee magazine 'Intern' by MA53 (municipal department) in Vienna (in December 2017).

With critical coverage by German magazine 'Der Folker', playing their first concerts in Switzerland and two of their performances filmed full length by Austrian TV station Servus TV, 2015 was a fairly successful year for Runway 27, Left. Receiving their first award ever, The Akademia Music Award for Best Blues Song in the January 2016 Akademia Music Awards, the new year 2016 saw the acoustic blues duo make a head start. On the winning song, The Akademia thinks that "Aptly titled, 'Tex-Mex Food And Texas Blues' combines easy lyrical stylings with a cool electric guitar riff to create a great anthem for any merry bar scene."

On their current album 'Friends And Catfish', Lukas Weber of Planet.tt Magazine from Vienna, Austria, says that "Half of the album was recorded at historic Sun Studio in Tennessee, the other half in Berlin; the result is something to be proud of (to listen to). Editor's picks: 'Blue Sunday' & 'Talking To Myself'."

Radio personality Josep Palmada of the Red Hot Blues Radio Show on Radio Vilafant from Spain thinks that 'Runway 27 Left from Vienna (Austria) show a very personal approach to the blues. It's a duo consisting of Anthony 'Tone' Kammerhofer and Erich 'Weissfeder' Brandl, mainly influenced by blues, country, Rock'n Roll, Zydeco and Bluegrass. Their second album 'Friends And Catfish' was recorded in the USA and Europe, and all songs on the album are original songs. It's great work.'

With more than 134 performances from 2011 to 2017 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, acoustic duo Runway 27, Left's first album 'Weekend Warriors' was released on their label 'Weissfeder Records' in March 2012. The harbinger of their first album, radio-only release 'Flawed & Flattened', had already gathered radio airplay in the UK, the USA, Spain, The Netherlands, Australia, Germany, Austria and Macedonia.

Eventually, April and May 2012 saw their first, brief guest appearances upon invitation by local artists in Memphis, TN, and New Orleans, LA. February 2013 saw them back in Memphis, TN, for recording their first few songs for their upcoming second album at historic Sun Records Studio, further enhancing their strong bond with St. Blues Guitar Workshop, too. The second part of their second album was recorded in September 2013 at Tonbrauerei Studios in Berlin, Germany. In January 2016, Runway 27, Left received the Akademia Music Awards for Best Blues Song for 'Tex-Mex Food & Texas Blues'. Both albums, 'Weekend Warriors' and 'Friends And Catfish' are available on all respective download platforms worldwide.

Highlights of 2016 and 2017 comprised Runway 27, Left's first-ever performances in the UK and bigger open airs in Germany's south-west - like Bräunlinger Strassenmusiksonntag and Festival der Strassenkünstler in Haslach - and Austria (i.e., Volksstimmefest Vienna).

Runway 27, Left is a blues project having former Trans Am/Sun Luca/Run Riot bass player Erich 'White Feather' Brandl and My Other Brother lead vocalist Anthony 'Tone' Kammerhofer team up.

MusicDish Review: Vi Stylez' Calypso-tinged "Can't Breathe - We Want Peace"

This is Vi Stylez biggest hit single "Can't Breathe- We Want Peace", which openly addresses the police brutality and misconduct issue within the American society.

The music video starts with an armed man driving his car chasing a man who is running to escape, as it seems to portray the scenes we have so often seen on the news. Throughout the song, the video shows clips of how police have violently acted toward the people, while Vi Stylez sings in a graveyard in memory of those victims to police brutality such as Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and others.

As the video shows heart-wrenching footages, Vi Stylez intensively invokes his beliefs in the chorus and bridges. The chorus remains simple and yet contains the most important message that he wants to deliver. By using simple lyrics "I can't breathe. You see my end zone. I don't shoot. I know justice. I want peace", he combines calypso syncopated rhythms and repetition, which are enhanced a catchy and memorable melody. Although simple, the message of the song is strong and clear. In the bridge, the music becomes calmer and sings "I want what I am. Because we want our voice to be heard", indicating his desire for how police brutality and misconduct can be brought to justice.

During his years performing on the streets of the Virgin Islands, Vi Stylez has encountered several police acts of violence, having been shot by police multiple times, the last time nearly ending his life. The video ends with Vi Stylez persuading the armed man to stay away from making a terrible mistake, as all lives matter.

Coming out of the creative epicenter that IS Southern California, the group COCKEYED OPTIMIST prepares a major new chapter in their creative existence. With the release of the title track from their upcoming album 'INTO THE NIGHT', the band makes a bold musical & lyrical statement to who they are & what makes them tick.

"I feel that "Into the Night" is the first time in a long time that one of our songs represents my thoughts and feelings 100%", states lead singer/songwriter Cynda Renae, "The riffs, the lyrical content...everything about that song speaks to me. Chick Corea and Steve Gadd released Chinese Butterfly today, a 2-disc album on the Concord Jazz label. With masterful playing by two of the most celebrated talents in jazz performing as the "Chick Corea + Steve Gadd Band," Chinese Butterfly includes two tracks that feature Chick playing the Vintage Vibe Piano-the record's first single, "Like I Was Sayin'," and the 16-minute epic that closes the album, "Gadd-zooks."

"Mountain Songs" Music From The Heart Of The Mountains

Andorran bass player Landry Riba (Principality of Andorra, 1975) releases is third album under the title "Mountain Songs"! This 5 tracks album was recorded live in 5 different locations in the Principality of Andorra, one piece each 2 days, by Pere Revert (www.sonnos.eu), and mixed and mastered at Störung Studio (www.storung.com) in Badalona (Spain) by Alex Gámez.

The recipe stills being nearly the same as for Landry's previous albums: They were trapped in the dream of a dog (2014) and Tales from behind the mirror (2015) and is clearly in a modern classical style. Listeners will find:
- Some field recordings performed in the woods, near a river or during a snowy day in the Pyrenean Mountains...
- A bass base, giving the harmonic line of the pieces, playing chords or arpeggios
- Classical strings (violin, viola and violoncello), going on with the melodies
- Piano, guitars or synths, played by special local guests, providing some extra sounds in some tracks
- Some electronic samplers, providing a particular background and blending all the other ingredients together...

This album is a very special journey in the Andorran mountains! Each piece was recorded in historical locations, using one day to install the studio and set all the gear and one day to record the song and the video. Ten days were needed to complete the entire journey! All the videos were directed by Andorran filmmaker Eric Rossell (www.ericrossell.com) and will be a fantastic opportunity for viewers to enter some awesome places usually closed to visitors. All the mixing and mastering process of the album was ran using analog gear to keep on with the warm and organic atmosphere reached during the recordings!

The album will be distributed via TuneCore and Bandcamp on its digital and CD + DVD versions. Official release is scheduled on December 29th 2017. All videos will be released on Landry's YouTube channel. The video from the track "Oblits" is yet available.

We begin with the upbeat, finger-snappin', toe-tappin' 'Just A Tear', which he backs up seamlessly with both 'Really Tired' and one of my own personal favorites on this debut solo album, 'See It In Her Eyes.' The psychedelic vibe to 'Jones Is In The House' makes for a fantastic flashback to an era where no music of that ilk was ever seemingly unjust, and that's followed by the pop country-stacked-entities within jangling guitar work of 'Smoking Guns And Jesus'.

The piano ballad 'Maybe This Time' is yet another stand out, heartfelt track that will definitely resonate with all of us that have loved and lost (whether it was our fault or not), and that's followed by 'Already Gone' and the Dylanesque raw warmth of 'Private Ghetto.' The upbeat, flowery 'Sweet Kisses' is delightful in its simplicity, 'Lies' is a pretty song every which way, and the gentle drum and guitar funk of 'Feel The Pain' is a nice turn of pace.

Another stirring piano ballad comes in the form of 'Growing Old With Me', before the album rounds out with the ragtag, old school semi-punk roustabout of 'No Valentine For You,' and then 'Real Love.' A track that bookends this album perfectly, give that it also features the same finger-snappin', foot-tappin' vibe and melody as the opener, My Dream My Fantasy is, quite easily, one of my top 3 albums of 2017. Buy it today as I'm sure, once listened to, that you will all wholeheartedly agree.

Jero is recording a glut of classical warhorses anew, hiring the very best of musicians in the field to connect to his virtual studio and work under his own baton. However, these are not live ensemble recordings in the traditional sense. Jero brings sections in separately and records them, often utilizing previous recordings as reference material. He then assembles the final product in the mixing room. It's an unusual approach for a genre as hopefully organic as classical music, and listeners reactions may be colored by the knowledge that high tech wizardry has at least helped to craft the architecture of any given performance.

Jero attempts to explain his process thusly: "To understand how impactful it will be, just imagine being at the movies, watching a 3D film and the concept is the same. Each individual sound has its unique three-dimensional location in space, just like 3D images do. Further, this project brings the potential to radically change the music industry through exciting new technologies and expertise." By using this process he creates 3 dimensional sounds that pop against the background and create a unique new experience for all listeners. Elizabeth's Orne's "Quiet" Video For MILCK Highlights Universality Of Violence

Director Elizabeth Orne's just-released music video for MILCK singing her poignant song "Quiet" uses the power of composition to convey the loneliness often felt by survivors of bullying and sexual assault. Orne tapped into her extensive art history background to create a meticulously crafted music video juxtaposing the beauty of life with the grief, shame and isolation survivors experience.

"The song is an anthem for the moment we are in culturally. Its about not being able to stay quiet any longer," says Orne. "As a director, I wanted to show the contrast between the characters internal world and the positive effect of discovering a loving, accepting community. I composed frames for the video that are initially super controlled and restricting, but by the song's end, as the girls come together with the orchestra to sing and play music together, the frames open up to be loose, moving and free."

Orne shared some examples of how visuals in the video are used to evoke emotion. For the opening bully scene the director chose a dirt road that felt a bit "fairy tale-ish", with dark twisting branches and shadows circling the action. "I wanted to make the cruelest moments in the stories also some of the most visually beautiful, so that it would create a tension in the viewer where they both want to look and look away, all at the same time," she says.

Mid video, the director also changed the aspect ratio. "I wanted to capture how alone and isolated you can feel in your own struggle, so we started the video in a square format with well composed, still frames," says Orne. "It was a visual presentation of feeling ‘boxed in' and trapped by your life. Later, when the girls arrive at the Teen Center, we open up to full screen and start moving the camera to help accentuate how it feels to suddenly realize you are not alone, and that there is love all around you."

Orne also did some unusual casting. "I suggested to MILCK that we cast the bullies as children," she says. "Bullying of transgendered folks is very serious and often life threatening. The psychological consequences can last for years or even decades after the physical wounds have healed. Though not physically intimidating, kids have a way of cutting straight to the heart of the matter: they say the cruelest things. They have a preternatural ability to zero in on exactly what your subconscious is afraid of and give voice to that. In this case, they make her fear that she will never be accepted for who she is, which we see later in the video has greater implications in her family life. They also present a predicament, even though they are humiliating her by lifting her skirt up repeatedly, she she can't fight back because she knows they are just little kids. I love how the actress, Christine Mangum, played the tension of that dilemma.

In a second storyline, MILCK wanted to depict an abusive relationship. "Again I wanted to create a meticulously composed frame that was hard to look away from," she says. "The white walls accentuate how drained the character feels emotionally. And the art work is reflected in the tattoo design on his arm. The shot is intentionally off-balance."

All of his did not distract Orne from getting great performances out of the actors. "Both of the lead teens we cast gave beautiful, evocative performances that allowed us to tell a complex emotional story very efficiently," says Orne. "The look that Shadia gives Christine when she arrives at the Teen Center is so moving. For Christine, who is transgendered in real life, this was her first major acting role."

Volume XIV - Various Artists - Album Review

Hej America!
My friends at Bongo Boy contacted me today and asked me to give a listen to and share my thoughts about their most recent compilation album entitled Volume XIV which is scheduled for release on December 1, 2017. The first thing I have to say is that I really like the cover art; the quasi art Deco post-apocalyptic vide really grabs my attention. It looks like some monster high-heeled show, along with a pair of ruby red lips are ready to devour a 1950s era American Graffiti soda fountain. (Of course, I could be wrong the older I get the more I miss the full-sized album cover art of the old vinyl days. Yes, kids once upon a time you had to leave your house and go to a physical store to purchase music and that music came on huge vinyl discs.)

1. Human Revival - Mark Baxter 3:29 - In the poll position on this album we have a track by Mark Baxter. I really like this song. Right from the start the band gets my attention. I swear I hear a prog/country vibe here. The funny thing is I really dislike a lot of prog music, but there is something about the bass that reminds me of Skunk Baxter. In all honestly, this track has more in common with the Black Crows than Steely Dan. The organ adds some old-school R&B while that bass carries the groove. Lest I forget Mark has a great voice for this kind of music and the background singers really warm my old Motor City heart.

2. Animals - Zombie Garden Club 4:48 - I have been a Zombie head for quite some time now. If you are not familiar with the Zombie Garden Club, you need to be. This guy is capable of some intense dark music as well as beautiful piano pieces. (Check out his cover of a A Whiter Shade of Pale for my money his version is right up there with Bauhaus' cover of Ziggy Stardust and Siouxsie and the Banshees' cover of Dear Prudence.) So, what is this song like? Simply put, it is a a melodic sonic blast. The guitar is both haunting and intense leaving no doubt the Zombie knows how to play. The thing that really strikes me, however is the fact that despite all the interesting and cool ‘noise' his vocals are spot on and melodic. The dissonance works well; I find myself grooving to his music. Man, I would love to see the ZGC live. (Note: to Bongo Boy, you should bring a plane load of artists out to the Targhee Fest which is a music festival about 15 minutes from where I stay in America.)

3. Bad Girl - Annemarie Picerno 4:05 - OK, first off, I feel compelled to say I think I like this song even before I hear it. I mean, c'mon, some of the best times I have ever had have been with Bad Girls. Yeah, I dig that funky beat the drums are laying down and the rest of the band has the soul to take that beat and make is blister. Hands down, though, the vocals are taking the spotlight. Annemarie has a gritty, yet smooth voice and a range that extends very far indeed. She makes great use of her background singers. Man, I feel that Motown vibe. All I can do is smile. Then the drummer throws in some very tight, really nice rolling fills and I have to tip my hat and say well done! This is another band I really want to see live as I can only imagine what a killer old-school R&B evening it would be.

4. Invincible - Lisa Coppola & Ray Powers 3:08 - This song is a duet that is a little more on the pop side of the musical spectrum. The thing is it is really good pop. Lisa and Ray can sing well, and the band can play. I am remanded a bit of the duel Tom Petty did with Stevie Nicks. I like the Country Rock guitar jam and their drummer is really walloping his cymbals. A+ for intensity, Dude.

5. Those Eyes - Kathryn Shipley 4:16 - This is another song with some grit. I like Kathryn's voice. The drummer seems to be fighting for attention as every once in a while, he lays down a lightning roll that makes me smile. After three or four of these the guitar player seems to say "Oh, yeah? Watch this!" He totally opens up with a massive jam - I am loving it. I mean what is not to love? A singer with soul, a guitar player who shoots lightning bolts and a drummer who can pound. Add in a rock-solid bass and a general groove and what you are left with is a killer song that just made my personal play list.

6. Tears (A Cappella) ft. Armand Hutton - Bruce Lev 3:05 - Man, I am speechless. Really, there are many very good musicians on this album including a couple I think could become superstars, but for pure take me home soul Armand and Bruce win hands down. LISTEN to this track. I am sure you will agree this is simply fantastic work

7. God Help Me - One Supernova 5:03 - I like this song. It has a mellow vibe, yet their percussionist is in the pocket. Then suddenly the acoustic guitar is eclipsed by a massive blast of electricity. There is something about his voice that I cannot put my finger on, his vocals have a soothing quality. Well, soothing until he goes into screaming mode and the guitar really opens up, then all of a sudden, the mellow somewhat religious overtones of the song are gone and I am listening to some massively blistering ROCK AND ROLL. Absolutely excellent segue guys, I never saw it coming.

8. No King of Mine - Anthems for Autumn 3:13 - Man, another raunchy blast! Bongo Boy has put together a smoking album. Good God I dig women who can ROCK and ROCK HARD. This is a headbanging song that for my money is right up there with Avenged Sevenfold, who, in my opinion are one of the most blistering bands on the planet. This song is now on my personal play list.

9. Pumped Up Kicks - SQUISH 3:07 - This is a unique track. I really dig the fuzz bass that drives the song. The first time I heard the organ I thought my computer was beeping. I then realized Microsoft can't rock, that has to be in the song. In all honesty, I am a bit perplexed by this track, but I enjoy it nonetheless. Interesting work guys!

10. Make Music Not Money - Above The Sun 2:58 - What a heavy post-hippy jam! OK, he does quote Paul Simon and the chorus is make music not money, so there are hippy overtones, but he makes a valid point when he says remember when being on the cover of Rolling Stone used to mean something? Now, all you have to do is plant a bomb at the end of the Boston marathon. I don't think I could have said it better myself. I would be remiss if I did not mention the fact that the man playing lead guitar absolutely smokes!!

11. Crush - Ricky Persaud Jr. 3:07 - Ricky is back and I, for one, am glad he is. Honestly, I have not heard anything by this young cat that I did not really like. This time around Rick tells us about a young man's encounter with true love. (I vaguely remember that feeling.) All in all, excellent reggae jam!

12. - 1 Of Us 3:13 - This is an interesting song. I like the strings and almost choir sound of the music. I could see this song being played in a new age church. It is beautiful and haunting. I can't say it is really rock and roll, but whatever genre it is, it does sound good and keeps my attention. Anyone who has read any of my reviews knows that I have an extremely short attention span, so well done guys.

13. This Time - Studeo 3:38 - This is kind of a modern country song that uses orchestral strings in the background and some nice keys off to the side. The keys do step up for a couple of bars before my attention is pulled away by the drummer doing some nice snare work. Over everything, though is her voice which is beautiful and totally dominates the song. It is safe to say that without these vocals the song would be no where nearly as compelling.

14. Needle in The Mirror - the oOhz - What an ominous title! His voice is just as ominous. The minimalist guitar only adds to the effect. Then the song takes what I think of as a Rocky Horror Picture Show turn. That is suddenly the band goes into a section that grooves and the listener discovers that the phrase Don't Put the Needle in the Mirror is an earworm that will get into your head and stay there...for a long time. (Thanks for putting this track last Bongo Boy!)

So, what is the bottom line? Simple, as I have come to expect, Bongo Boy has found a gaggle of Indy bands that do what they do very well. As the man said, being on the cover of Rolling Stone used to mean something. If I were Rolling Stone, I would take a close look at what Bongo Boy is doing. If you like good music, you will enjoy this album. I know I did.
