BUTCH JONES BRINGS BROADWAY TO BROOKLYN

http://mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=180688

Co-Producing, engineering, and facilitating regional performances since March 2014, Grammy Award winning engineer Butch Jones is bringing home an ardent project to complete. From conception to fruition with long-time industry veteran Dodie Pettit, a true labor of love has helped develop an endearing tribute album like no other.

After Broadway actor Kevin Gray's sudden passing in 2013, a sold-out memorial show at The Majestic Theatre in NYC inspired Pettit, Gray's wife, to preserve the magical performances of that night. It was then that Pettit started to produce that magic again in the form of an album, which will honor Kevin's memory and commemorate his 8,200 plus performance career.

Pettit reached out to dear friend, Butch Jones, to help produce, engineer and mix the album. "When you work with the best, you know you are going to get the best. Butch is the best engineer I've ever worked with as well as my best friend," says Pettit. "I knew this was also a work of love for Butch because of his deep connection with Kevin."

Recorded across the country, from Nashville to Los Angeles and of course, New York City; Jones is currently beginning the mixing process at 825 Records' studio. "I want it to be as awesome as Kevin's performances were on Broadway," said Jones. "What better way to accomplish this than by bringing this project home to 825. I can now spend all the time needed in a brand new room with a hybrid console that I helped build."

The upcoming album features over 30 tracks and over 200 Broadway performers. It brings new life to well-known songs and will bring happiness and nostalgia to audiences everywhere.

The album features multiple Tony Award winning entertainers including Bebe Neuwirth, Len Cariou, and Judy Kaye as well as long time friends and Broadway veterans Jack Coleman, Charles Randolph-Wright, Hugh Panaro and Alton Fitzgerald White. It also features almost entire casts of current and long-standing Broadway shows. Well known conductors and session musicians back up every guest with the likes of David Caddick, Kristin Blodgette, and Kevin Stites in front of Bashiri Johnson, Matty Amendola, Ira Siegal, Dunn Pearson, and many more.

Butch says "We have used so many great players that it would impossible to list everyone in one press release. I will say that there will eventually be a full list posted of everyone who helped turn this dream project into reality."

825 Records is extremely proud to support this project and the work of our very own, Butch Jones. Please contact Pettit's publicist OLGATALYN@AOL.COM for additional information about the album.

MarilynMusic At The The Vertical Room: Phil Hamilton, Autumn Rowe and Devyn, Joanne Perica

By Eric de Fontenay

MarilynMusic has been busy at its NYC studio 'The Vertical Room' working on new tracks to add to its catalogue, including three new songs with Phil Hamilton, longtime guitarist for R&B and soul legend Luther Vandross. The world class guitarist lent his chops to "Gotta Find A Way," a blues rock song a la Nickleback, "Some Girls," and reggae/dance pop track "Say The Word." The songs will be available on MarilynMusic's soon to be launched website this summer.

Having recently mixed the song titled "I'm A B A Celebrity," Casey Conrad got together with featured up-and-coming Hip-Hop and R&B musician Devyn Of D. Magic and singer/songwriter Autumn Rowe to strategise and coordinate the hot new single's release. Autumn recently collaborated with hit producers Stargate (Rihanna "Rude Boy", Beyonce "Irreplaceable") on the single "Happiness" for Jay-Z's newest artist Alexis Jordan on his label, Star Roc/Roc Nation/Sony.

Casey has also been writing songs with singer-songwriter Joanne Perica for Pop singer Daniella's debut solo album. Billboard-charting artist from the girl group Harlow, Joanne has written songs with some of the top writers in the business, including Michael Bolton, Toby Gad, Anjulie, Serabee and Andy Goldmark.

The Next Step In Recording Technology

Every musician has been there. You’re trying to record a track in your home studio and it just never sounds quite right. The tone is thin, the effects plastic, and music sounds choked. It sounds as if it were recorded in, well, your bedroom. Home recordings, as well as many professional studio recordings, lack the full rich sound of a live concert. Home recording environments simply don’t have the acoustics or the equipment to record a vibrant, full, real sounding performance, until now. Born To Rock solves these frustrating problems with their latest release, Rockster+ Pro.

Born To Rock is an innovative music company that brings new technologies to bear on the world of rock and roll. They produce widely used electric guitars and basses made out of metal instead of the traditional wood and develop software geared toward the ever-growing digital recording paradigm.

Rockster+ Pro is an important innovation in home recording. This software allows artists to pack warm analog drive and concert hall ambience into digital recordings and turn dead tracks into big live-sounding mixes without the expensive equipment found at professional recording studios. With Rockster+ Pro, recording artists can use one of seven presets or create their own unique production setting. A GUI panel provides controls for factory and user presets, reverb time, decay and mix, heat, drive, space and dither. Reverb controls are independently adjustable for reflections from rear, side, ceiling and audience so you can design your own concert hall's size, shape, and liveliness. With this program an artist can place a recording in any venue from a small club to a giant opera hall.

A key feature that sets this software apart is file analysis. Rockster+ Pro does not work in real-time like most recording and production software. Instead, the program analyzes the entire sound file before applying any effects or modifications. This prevents ugly noises from clipping and blends all of the parameters at once instead of piping the signal through a chain of compressors and processors. Rockster+ Pro will also warn you of any overages before it processes modifications so you have the option to re-record the track.

Rockster+ Pro takes all of the expensive equipment and engineering of a professional recording studio and shrinks it into an affordable piece of software. Now the home studio recording can compete with the professional effort and every musician can achieve the same high quality, full bore, live sound on their tracks. This application levels the playing field for home recording artists and is a must have for any serious home studio.

Born To Rock Design Releases Rockster+ PRO Music Processing Software

New PRO version of Rockster+ music software now handles digital recordings at up to 192kHz 24-bit. It provides the final touch to studio or home digital recordings, adding live sound ambiance and controllable heat and drive. Use one of seven factory presets, or design your own sound.

http://www.BornToRock.com/rockster.htm

Record your dry file in a digital recorder of your choice, edit and mix down to stereo. Record clean with a close mic, or even direct to the board, and later experiment at leisure with many different ROCKSTER settings to provide exactly the desired heat, drive, and "air". Go easy on effects. Record undistorted, clean and dry so you keep your options open later. Then use ROCKSTER to add desired heat, drive and space to individual vocal or instrumental tracks, including drum tracks; to entire songs; or to finalize or master your complete CD album.

Your input files in 24-bit or 16-bit stereo wav format are internally processed at 32-bit depth. Output may be dithered or non-dithered.

Ten-position clickable-detent controls permit exact reproducibility. Output filenames automatically indicate the chosen settings for later re-use. Save your preferred settings, name your own venue files.

Absolute consistency is assured since Rockster+ PRO first analyzes the entire input file you give it, from beginning to end; and then processes it as an integrated unit according to your chosen settings.

Thorough pre-analysis of your entire input file, followed by implementation of your chosen settings in view of the analyzed result, is a key feature of Rockster+ PRO music processing. Creative control remains with you -- since you can choose from 2 quadrillion possible settings in Rockster+ PRO.

The rack-style control panel provides factory and user presets as well as click-stop settings for reverb time, decay and mix; and heat, drive and space. Reverb controls are independently adjustable for reflections from rear, side, ceiling and audience so you can design your own concert hall's size, shape, and liveliness. Create a venue ranging from jazz club to opera hall, precisely to your needs.

Rockster+ PRO software is available for download in a free trial version. Rockster+ PRO licensed version (for processing unlimited song length) available online for US$118.

Rockster runs on Windows, or "Bootcamp" for Mac.

For more information, including a screenshot of the user interface, visit the website http://www.BornToRock.com. Audio samples are available at the website http://myspace.com/btrdemo.

Jim Flynn Rentals Supports Entire New York Music/TV And Movie Industries

Jim Flynn Rentals has had an enormously busy first half of the year as it continues its tradition of supplying the very best gear to some of the top music recording, landmark institutions, and live performances for television and theatre in New York City and beyond.

We will be taking a closer look at some of these projects over the next few weeks, but it seems that renowned International TV man - Fritz Lang (The MTV VMA's, Grammy's, Miss Universe, Miss USA, President Obama's Inauguration ceremony with Jazz at Lincoln Center) has been as busy as the JFR boys - who he calls upon whenever he has an event - and this month, he's had a lot - including the use of the New York Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium for the "Celebrity Apprentice Finale".

As ever, Jim Flynn Rentals were right there with Fritz with a compact Pro-Tools system with a range of gear including extra support for both Fritz and the All Mobile video truck. Erik Woltersdorf at Jim Flynn Rentals tells us that Fritz has his own-specified Pro Tools rig and built by JFR that is ready to fly anywhere in the world at a moments notice, even into the occasional war zone!

Similarly, our old (and everyone else's) friends - Sesame Street - have been working with Roger Stauss over at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, New York where they have hosted and recorded such guests as : First Lady Michelle Obama, LL Cool J, Sheryl Crow, Brian Williams, and Canadian singer songwriter Fiest, while Jim Flynn Rentals supplies Roger with his normal full Pro Tools Rig.

Erik says: "I keep it assembled, tech'd, and ready to roll for Sesame Street. These rigs are like the Air Force One of the audio world. When you get to the status of a Fritz Lang or a Roger Stauss you can have a rig fueled, oiled and calibrated and it's ready to roll."

In the world of recording, there are a few "MAJOR" new projects being worked on in the city that never sleeps, but we can't tell you who they are, except to say that the world's most successful female recording artist seems to be starting work on a new album while one of the world's biggest bands are in town to work on a comic-book based Broadway show (!) Of course - all call on Jim Flynn Rentals to get their gear-thing on.

We just can't tell you who or what. Or where. Or anything...!! However, we can tell you that the gear is massive and the hours long and a little strange. JIM IS THE KEEPER OF MANY SECRETS....

Avatar Studios are a frequent customer of Jim Flynn Rentals, and they like to keep their clients private, which we respect, but the sheer amount of mics, cables, converters and speakers being sent over by Jim Flynn Rentals almost weekly, says to us that SOMETHING big is going on there!

Legacy Studios have been host to that lady we spoke of who seems to be getting busier on the recording front with JFR supplying guitars, speakers, keys and mixers for the jam session that seems to be in progress there.

Legacy have also been hosting Lawrence Manchester - recording engineer for just about every decent soundtrack you can think of in the past few years - as he tackles the music for Tuxedo Films "Taking Woodstock" in front of his favorite Jim Flynn supplied JBL's.

The movie is helmed by Ang Lee.

Lastly (for us here) Will.i.am has been having his regular recording dance-party at Legacy with JFR trucking over a Korg Oasys Keyboard, as well as a Moog Little Phatty Keyboard.

Over at Chung King, Jim Flynn Rentals have also been dipping into their VAST itinerary of keyboards of every size, shape and decade, with everything from a Dave Smith PolyEvolver to a Moog analog synth among a lot of other gear being supplied to acts like Kid Cudi, Leslie Ryan, Gorillaz, Estelle and CAT STEVENS!

Yup, seems that Yusef is back, or gone - or whatever..

Wyclef Jean's Platinum Studios always hosts top R+B, rap and reggae artists and this month is no exception. Jim Flynn Rentals have been sending over trucks and crew almost daily for artists such as LL Cool J (mics, guitars, basses) and Maxwell (Pro-Tools)

Upstate based Firehouse Productions - one of the US's premier event staging/production companies have been calling Jim Flynn Rentals for projects as wide as "Robin Hood Foundation fundraiser" at the Javits Convention Center (JFR supplied 360 systems, boards and speakers) and "Survivor Finale" at the Ed Sullivan Theater (mixing boards, mics, speakers)

Also in television this year we had the Survivor Finale with Michael Abbott (Grammy Audio Co-ordinator & independent mixer) using a Jim Flynn Rentals recording rig including the Tascam X-48 for the iso mix and the Yamaha DM-2000 for the band mix along with the Cedars DNS-1000 to round out the package.

Talking of TV, Jim Flynn are always in deep with Good Morning America (this week - Ciara played the early morning show with JFR supplying what seems to be a complete store of gear that included a Tascam X-48 hard disc 48 channel recording workstation as well as a serious array of mics to accommodate the band.

Jimmy Fallon has his particular needs for his audio - always using a JFR supplied JBL 5.1 system with Lawrence Manchester at the helm, to the joy of his television audience who hear the comic's voice coming from all angles! The show sounds huge with his house band "The Roots"!

And, of course, JFR take seriously the "truthiness" of the broadcast business with The Colbert Report bringing in ANOTHER truck load of gear with stuff that includes a Yamaha M7CL-48 Digital Mixer, and MY- 16AT Adat Expansion Cards in preparation for Mr. Colbert's trip to entertain our troops in Iraq.

Then there's "The Daily Show" and more on that next month, where we'll also be taking a closer look at Sir George Martin's Wildheart Group, the aforementioned American Museum of Natural History, Artist (the painting kind!) Christopher Rahn's new exhibition at The Guggenheim, the new soundtrack for Mel Gibson's "Edge of Darkness" and.... just what the heck was an EMPTY case as a rented item for the workstation manufacturer Euphonix doing at Yankee Stadium?

We intend to find out about all of this and much more - stay tuned!

In the meantime, for much more on Jim Flynn Rentals

Interview With Darnell - One Of Kerchoonz' Hardest Working Bands

UK-based Darnell was one of the four bands to win the Kerchoonz December Live Sessions contest "to find the hardest working unsigned acts on the circuit." In addition to earning a "substantial amount of money" for their plays and downloads on Kerchoonz throughout the month of December, Darnell was invited to perform at the 'House Of Rock' studios in Glasgow for an 'invite only' audience.

We took the opportunity to chat with band about the secret to their online success and attitudes to artist compensation. You can read the full interview with Donna Marie, Helicopter Girl and The Fortunate Sons here.

What was the secrets to your success on Kerchoonz? And how was it playing the 'House Of Rock' studios? Any good back or on-stage anecdotes/stories?

I think the secret was a lot of spare time spent on the Internet, messaging Facebook friends as well as contacts made through MySpace, asking people to listen, and better still, download our songs on Kerchoonz,... I did bother friends a little more than usual, but as you can see it paid off. Facebook made it much easier to promote Kerchoonz because when you added our Kerchoonz page to Facebook, it adds the link with picture and all, so that was good.

As for playing at the House of Rock studios, that was an amazing experience. We were so humble. We would say it was our best day ever in our journey within the music biz! Indianna Gregg was a fantastic host and Ian Marrow was just so chilled and very approachable. He was even willing to sit down and tell us some stories about his experience within the business.

Taking to the stage was a bit daunting as it was so intimate and with cameras rolling etc,... it all took a little getting used to. By the third song, I had chilled and was starting to get into it. Unfortunately, we only got to play 3 songs each! Junior said his hands were sweating while he was playing, possibly nerves.

Our biggest thing was trying to pick the songs that we liked to play, but also songs that we thought would make an impact. When Darnell plays live, it is just one guitar and two vocals. We try and fill the room with our song the best we can - we think we did OK on that night.

Obviously, you've build an active fanbase before joining Kerchoonz. What is your general approach to online marketing? Have you had similar successes in generating traffic and/or getting paid on other sites?

We always wanted to build a band website and felt that we really needed to do that in order to progress and let people know what we are about. It was another one of those things - starting a site, the time and money!

We played a radio station in Manchester about 2 years ago and the DJ asked if we had a MySpace page. We weren't sure what that was, but she insisted that we set one up. So I did and very quickly realized that perhaps we didn't need a website after all - MySpace does it all!! Within no time, we had built up a fanbase. We found that a lot of Americans really liked our stuff which was great.

Over the last 6 months, we felt like we needed something new - and along came Kerchoonz. It's fresh, it's new and better still, you get paid, just for people downloading and listening to your music.

The Internet has changed the way we market and distribute music. But has it changed the way you approach creating music?

I think the way I approach creating music has always been the same. Our demos on MySpace and Kerchoonz are all old songs, anything from 3 to 10 years old. People can't tell. We would love to record new songs, but it all costs money. But what is great about the Internet is that you can play a gig, videotape it using a phone or camera, and within hours, you can place that video on your pages for all to see.

For example, Darnell took part in Channel 4's Orange unsigned competition. We decided to videotape our journey to London, which we placed on YouTube and Kerchoonz/MySpace. Within no time, we had 1500 hits on YouTube alone, and that's without us promoting it in any way! So we feel the Internet and today's technology can bring fans closer to the artist.

What are other ways you interact with your fans on a site like Kerchoonz? What tools have been most effective in communicating with your fans? Does it sometimes become a little overwhelming?

When we first found Kerchoonz, I thought "...aahhh something else to get used to. I can't take it anymore." But within no time, I felt it was so easy to use. I like to use the comment box when I talk to people as our fans like to see what has been said and lets them know what the real you is all about. Updating your status on Kerchoonz lets people know that you are online or have recently been online which it can generate traffic to your page.

In the U.S., recording artists are lobbying Congress to get paid for the use of their music by conglomerates like Clear Channel. Most social networking sites like MySpace or YouTube grew on the back of musicians and other creators without compensating them. Do you think that artists should demand compensation or be content with the exposure they receive? How did it feel to actually get paid by Kerchoonz?

It is fantastic to get paid by Kerchoonz. Writing your own songs and playing them live means that you rarely get paid, so the opportunity to get some compensation for doing something that you enjoy is amazing. Also, it will sure come in handy when we need to record new tunes. I don't feel it is such a big deal, but I think it will be a good incentive to get artists to sign up with the site.

As for other sites like MySpace, I don't feel artists should push to get paid as they know what they were signing up to when they started. I feel the exposure is a bigger payment than any amount of money. Being part of the first Kerchoonz Live Session will be worth more in exposure than any amount of money!

Kordor Electronics Releases Digital Cinema Movie Distribution Technology

Kodor Electronics gives a boost to the digital cinema initiative today with the release of the KodeKey™ Professional Zip Platform for Windows and Mac OS X computer systems.

Movie studios are expected to make wide investments in digital cinema upgrades in 2009 following a ten-year research and development period starting with the 1999 digital release of Walt Disney Pictures Bicentennial Man. Digital films are packaged and distributed using an industry standard specification called the Digital Cinema Package (DCP). Part of the DCP specification is the digital film MXF container that can range in single file sizes of 60GB to 500GB. Today, digital films are delivered by hard drive or satellite data transmission using fulfillment services from companies like Technicolor, Kodak, and Deluxe. Legacy celluloid reel manufacturing and distribution costs movie studios up to $1500 a print per theater. Digital distribution provides a dramatic drop in initial distribution investment for movie studios but has proven to be a bit costly due to hard drive delivery and expensive satellite rental time. The cost savings reserved from digital versus celluloid distribution is planned for investments into digital projector upgrades for theater vendors by the movie studios.

Delivering a system with an average per film distribution cost of $70, the KodeKey Zip technology is an online powered zip format that replaces the internal data storage of a traditional zip file with the cloud storage infrastructure of the Amazon Web Services S3 platform. By using an upload and download manager, the format can manage hundreds of gigabytes of data in a zip file less than 1 kilobyte in size per movie.

Optionally, the format can create 1,344,000-bit password certificates to add additional access protection as an accessory to KDM encryption keys sent to theater vendors to unlock playback rights for MXF containers.

Broadband delivery of digital films has been a challenge in the past due to poor TCP connections and poor designs of online storage servers required to handle single file sizes above 5GB. KodeKey Zip has been tested and approved for up to 1TB of single file archiving validated by rigorous 12-mode hash string calculation certification.

"KodeKey Zip has been designed to easily deliver 300GB digital films as an e-mail attachment to thousands of theaters simultaneously", says inventor and Chairman William G. Blanchard, "We are honored to work with the digital film initiative and look forward to provide support to the digital movie industry worldwide."

More information about the KodeKey Zip system can be found at http://www.kodekey.com
