Those dark, intimate vocals make up what has become the signature sound of the US-born singer and songwriter. "The 11 new tracks on "Own Your Own" is a great addition to the Sunset Records repertoire; "Hey Hey Hey" is already impacting a few formats on radio starting this week." says Lichterman. But if Rachel Fine seems unaffected by the success of her music career over the last half year, it may be because she is also the Co-Host of Howard Stern's weekly comedy news series "The Bonus Show" for the iN DEMAND Networks, available on every cable system around the world. On his discovery of Rachel, Lichterman goes on to say he "watched her host "The Bonus Show" for one minute and thought she was incredibly professional at her gig" and that "it reminded me of someone who is a host on E! or Bravo, yet she was talking about the antics of [Howard Stern's] the 'Wack Pack'."

That initial sighting by Lichterman eventually led to a meeting in New York City, which led to the recording deal signed by Rachel and Sunset earlier this year. The label is treating the "Own Your Own" CD as a brand new release with a street date set for July 27, this summer. The completed CD has welcomed surprises from the known television host. Songs like "Forgiveness" and "Care & Closure" are intimate, brooding, soulful ballads that help create that 'Rachel Fine Signature Sound'. Songs like these show off Fine's vocals and her gentle ability to say quite a lot in song. "Much of that is because of her vox," says Don Lichterman, "Rachel [and songwriting partner Timothy Schletter's] ability to write accessible songs are what make this album great. The song "Fly By" is another sentimental track that's also coated with that 'Rachel Fine'; a layered groove that you find in every song on this CD."

The CD is a velvety blend of neo soul and trip hop sounds that is neither pure "smooth jazz", nor straight up "R&B." The songs are arranged in a very precise way to draw the listener in with Fine's vocals. Fine wrote all the lyrics on the album. While the overall matter seems to be about love and life, there is also a haunting sense of lament, solitude and isolation — a secret, whispered, confessional intimacy which is clearly written from the pain felt in her life. Born in Ohio before moving to Arizona, California, Florida, and then New York, Rachel grew up surrounded by music from a very young age. From those early years, she played drums as a percussionist in a nationally competitive band, and the young talent started showing off her vocals by singing National Anthems at varied events, including the inaugural game for the XFL.

The label (Sunset Records) is planning some unique ways to promote and market Rachel's new CD. "We have great things in mind for Rachel," says Lichterman, "My plan is to get her out of her element a bit, starting this month by doing things like playing live with other established pop, jazz, classical and singer / songwriters." The label will release those new live recordings at Sunset Live. Rachel is also being featured on Fantourage.com starting next month. Bethany & Rufus - "900 Miles": Harmony In Diverse Musical Styles

Bethany Yarrow and Rufus Cappadocia form a duo unlike any other. Rufus plays a five string electric cello that he invented. He plays with percussive rhythmic funkiness and Bethany sings in a down home bluesy bent. They mix jazz, funk, folk, and world music together and the resulting sound is truly unique.

One of their releases is a song called "900 Miles." This tune is a great example of how these two musicians can mix styles. Where the lyrics and Bethany's tone affect a melancholy and ghostly feeling, Rufus' bass line is inescapably funky. One finds himself dancing to this ballad of a forlorn traveller. As Bethany sings, "if this train runs me right, I'll be home tomorrow night, 'cause I'm 900 miles from my home." A strange mix, to be sure, but Bethany and Rufus make it sound beautiful.

Along with this song comes a music video. The piece depicts both musicians slowly trekking down a long desolate railroad track and cuts to scenes of them playing together in a small cabin. The imagery captures the meaning of the song in an eery setting. It evokes a feeling of loneliness and desperation as Bethany sings of the train that will bear her home, a train that never seems to come.

The Rivertowns Jazz and Blues Festival is an all-ages festival, sponsored by the Beczak Environmental Education Center and Global Exchange. Bethany & Rufus To Join African Music Greats In Mali

Roots music duo Bethany Yarrow & Rufus Cappadocia (Bethany & Rufus) have made the hop across the Atlantic to Bamako, Mali, where they have been invited to perform at the 3rd Edition Daoula Festival on Saturday March 7th from 11:00PM - 3:00AM (Mali time). The Daoula Festival "Rencontres Autour du Cotton (Meeting around Cotton)" is committed to helping raise awareness of the problems faced by the African cotton sector. The festival, now in its third edition, takes place March 6-8 and welcomes artists from all backgrounds, including Bono, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Quincy Jones and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

"It is a tremendous opportunity for us, and we are planning to record, both sonically and visually," noted Bethany Yarrow. "Our journey of singing these old folk songs - most of them African American - back in West Africa, which is, ultimately, their origin."

Bethany & Rufus will be performing alongside some of Africa's greatest musicians, including Kassé Mady Diabaté, Nahawa Doumbia, Toumani Diabaté, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Didier Awadi, Oumou Sangaré and Hadrien Féraud. They will be joined by Hatian Voodoo percussionist Bonga Jean Baptiste and singer and flautist Yacouba Moumouni, leader of jazz-pop-ethnic band Mamar Kassey, one of the few Nigerien musical acts known internationally, and much beloved in their home country.

Prior to their trip to Mali, Bethany was joined by her father Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) for a memorial concert for Odetta Holmes, known simply as Odetta (December 31, 1930 - December 2, 2008). They were joined on February 24th at New York's Riverside Church by a who's who of people influenced by her - including David Amram, Maya Angelou, Harry Belefonte, Oscar Brand, Tom Chapin, Wavy Gravy, Maria Muldaur, Bernice Reagon, Pete Seeger, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Josh White Jr. and Peter Yarrow, among many others.

Bethany & Rufus with Bonga also gathered on February 21st at Carole Hart's home for a house concert in honor of her deceased husband Bruce Hart. An award-winning television and film producer/writer, Carole Hart is the brainchild behind the "For the Next 7 Generations" movie, whose soundtrack Bethany & Rufus have been collaborating on.

The full-length documentary tells the story of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers from around the globe - the Arctic Circle, North, Central & South America, Asia and Africa - who have come together because they were told in prophecy that their ancestral ways of prayer, peace-making and healing are vitally needed in the world today.
