A powerful, moving and uplifting song. Sankarshan Das Adhikari is a man filled with hope and out to change the world.

His debut single The Peace Formula has an unusual, random yet cool rhythm. The rhythm and guitar melody throughout the song sometimes sounds out of place and different parts of the song contrast one another. However, this individual rhythm is actually very smart and speaks loudly of the song's message.

His contrasting rhythm represents his challenge to world leaders to implement his formula that he belies will bring unparalleled peace for all people. It is a brave move to speak through song to leaders about another path they should take. And Adhikari through his grand life experience does it well. Light hearted and fun through the music but powerful and deep through his lyrics.

Adhikari's song makes you feel happy. Although his ideas on the peace formula are larger than life and somewhat crazy, the song makes you fee joyful and reminds us that there are people in the world still actively trying to gain peace.

Kwame Binea Shakedown Announce Second Single/Video, "Hang On"

Harlem-based roots rock singer/songwriter Kwame Binea, who fronts the Kwame Binea Shakedown, has announced the worldwide digital release of their second single, "Hang On" for Tuesday, June 16, 2015 via CDbaby.com and all their major digital distribution partners including iTunes and Amazon.com.

"Hang On" is catchy, upbeat, funk/rock/soul dance song layered with a poignant, hopeful and uplifting universal message that encourages "little brothers to hang on."

It was co-written and produced by Kwame Binea and guitarist Justin Wilcox for Binea's indie imprint, Pelopos Entertainment Group. The song also features the rest of Shakedown band, drummer Medley Shabazz, guitarist Art Vanterpool, bassist Phil Bass, Daron Wright on keyboards, Kengo Yamada and Michael Quigley on saxophone, Brian Varneke on trumpet, and guest background vocalists Dietrice Bolden and Jindai Joseph.

"I really wanted to create an anthem-like track to encourage young brothers to keep their heads up and never stop believing in themselves," explains Binea. "These are tough times and a lot of our young people are a bit lost and aren't getting the level of support they need. So, just trying to give them some of the same kind of positive reinforcement and encouragement I received growing up," he added.

"Hang On" follows the group's debut single/video "Let Go" (released in April). The video was culled from a Kwame Binea Shakedown live performance at the Brooklyn Bowl earlier this year.

Binea grew up splitting time in West London (his birth place) and in his native origins, Ghana. He later moved to Cherry Hill, NJ as a teenager where he started to unearth his artistic aspirations as a burgeoning songwriter/singer/guitarist. While in college he teamed up with guitarist/vocalist Justin Wilcox as a duo, which became the nucleus that spawned the rock/funk collective Kwame Shakedown in Harlem, NY (2011). Over the past several years they have built a legion of loyal fans performing at most of the city's most noted music venues including Joe's Pub, Arlene Grocery, Rockwood Music Hall and Brooklyn Bowl, to name just a few.

"Music has always been like a straw into the deepest part of me," says Valerie Janlois. "Even as a child, when I was singing, I was floating on waves of bliss. But when the music stopped I felt cut off...I just wanted to get that feeling back."

Following that bliss, Valerie left her home in Rochester right after her high school graduation and headed for New York City with $30 in her pocket. Living in a low-rent bedsit on the Lower East side, she cut a demo, hustled her songs, wrote every day in a tiny practice room in RCA and learned all she could about the music scene. She put a band together and toured New England, playing for food and gas money.

Then Valerie learned Transcendental Meditation (TM). "Everything changed," she says. "It was an a-ha! moment. Here was a way to find the bliss I felt when I was making music, to begin to live it all the time. That straw into my soul just dissolved into the ocean of life."

So Valerie dove in. She became teacher of TM and spent years teaching hundreds of people how to meditate around the country. But she never left music. She performed a children's opera with members of the New York Philharmonic and periodically recorded demos. Last November, Valerie walked into San Pablo Recorders in Berkeley and recorded "Sara/Miracles" in one take. Recording engineer Bond Bergland looked at her through the control room window and said, "Let's do a record."

Valerie wasn't sure. She had a CD's worth of songs and wanted to put them out. But she was committed to teaching TM, and she knew what kind of time and energy the recording project would take. "There was this cacophony of desires," she says. "But through transcending, I had gained access to that deepest part of me. Everyone has that place inside. And if you can sit and soak up all that silence and order, when you come out and act, you make the right decisions and do the right things."

That's how Valerie got the inner green light to move ahead with the CD. Once she did, a roster of incredible musicians joined the project.

"I've been learning from everybody I'm working with," says Valerie. "The process has certainly had its challenges. Yet it's been so effortless compared to the music I tried to make in the past. Having the music I've written fleshed out this way - made real - has brought me full circle. I'm dipping into the reservoir of inner bliss through music, but much more deeply. Performing live used to be like drawing pure water through a straw in the desert - now the straw is a wide channel. There is so much joy in life, even after the music stops. The connections I'm making with this band are so powerful. I can't wait to perform live with them. And with the CD, I'll have a new and tangible connection with my audience. The album closes the gap between me, them, and the music between us."

Blake McKibben Young Man With A Big Future

With so many albums little more than a collection of songs rushed out as soon as there is enough material to fill the space, it is a rare pleasure to find a record as lovingly crafted as Blake McKibben's debut.

This young, good-looking man from Portland, Oregon has produced a record that has taken all of two years' hard work to perfect.

'Haze' is an album that cannot be defined by any single style, but which still has a thread running through each and every track. As befits a record made entirely by one individual, every song is intensely personal, telling the stories of a man's life; both the highs and the lows.

Equally adept at turning his hand to rock, pop, folk or even hip-hop, McKibben uses every weapon in his musical armoury. But each style is just another reflection of his soul, and evidence of an enormous talent.

'Haze' is by turns catchy, heart-felt, funny and sad. McKibben covers every emotion of his young life, from the heartbreak of 'The Breakup Song' to the feel good jauntiness of 'You Lift Me Up', via the daily drudgery of working life, described perfectly in 'Another Day Another Dollar'.

But the standout tracks are the rawest, most soulful and most beautiful. The title track and 'I Wish I Could Thank You' both deal with the tragedy of losing a loved one. But out of that tragedy has come music that belies its creator's youth.
Despite only being 26-years-old, McKibben has been involved in music for nearly two decades. He began by picking up the saxophone in front of his whole school at the age of 10 and was soon turning his hand to piano, drums, bass and anything he could lay his hands on.

He writes, records, performs and produces all of his music. And such total control has produced something that is genuinely unique. His influences include some of the most maverick artists of the last 40 years, including The Velvet Underground, Nine Inch Nails and Morphine. But 'Haze' is an album that is truly his own.

Each song on the record offers something different, but it is as a whole that this album comes in to its own.

Boston's Reed Waddle WINS! Fourth Annual New York Songwriters Circle Contest

Currently The New York Songwriter's Circle hosts live music showcases across the country including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles as well as an educational "Loft Series" dedicated to supporting, nurturing and empowering artists in this new age of the Music industry.
