The 10th annual Americana Music Festival & Conference will take place from Wednesday, September 16th through Saturday, September 19th, 2009, gathering thousands of artists, fans and industry professionals from all over the world.

Wednesday, September 16 at 10 PM
The Station Inn
402 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203
(615) 255-3307

Amy will be playing songs from her recently released album "The Killer In Me" on Wildflower Records. Critics have already been raving about the album:

"her velvety, achy voice recalls an early Lucinda Williams. Sounding grounded but wounded, Speace exudes the vulnerability of someone who's loved and lost."
- Alex Cohen, NPR.org, 6.12.09

"a deep, dark album full of lush, emotive lyrics, masterful acoustic guitar work and just the right mix of percussion to make up-tempo numbers"
- Nancy Dunham, Washington Post (DC), 6.12.09

"[Speace] will likely increase her following substantially with this album. It's a dark, deeply personal album... a rough-edged, roots-rock sound that perfectly complements Speace's unsettling lyrics."
- Jay Lustig, Newark Star Ledger (NJ), 6.26.09

"Amy Speace revels in her commanding growl on 'The Killer in Me.' Fans of Melissa Etheridge and the Indigo Girls could connect."
- Jon Takiff, Philadelphia Daily News (PA), 6.30.09

MusicDishTV: Polarity/1's "The Marvin Stomp" Performed by the Battery Dance Company of New York

Polarity/1's use of broken record sound at the start of The Marvin Stomp makes his song anything but broken. In fact, the introductory sounds are so upbeat that the repetition is quite satisfying. The jazzy twists and swingin beat sure give the performers in the Battery Dance Company something to dance about. Just try listening to these melodies without moving along Polarity/1s eclectic compilation of bouncy, enthusiastic noises which will have listeners dancing inside and out.

http://www.polarity1.com
http://www.batterydanceco.com

The music of Polarity/1 is exactly what the name suggests: conjoined opposites -- a mash up of new: cutting edge electronica/hip hop/nu-jazz and old; roots music of America (blues, funk, country, early jazz), Brazil (samba, pagoda, etc.) and West African groove science. Polarity also describes the dual streams of Polarity/1's musical output: songs and instrumentals.

Bethany & Rufus - "900 Miles": Harmony In Diverse Musical Styles

Bethany Yarrow and Rufus Cappadocia form a duo unlike any other. Rufus plays a five string electric cello that he invented. He plays with percussive rhythmic funkiness and Bethany sings in a down home bluesy bent. They mix jazz, funk, folk, and world music together and the resulting sound is truly unique.

Bethany & Rufus' 900 Miles -- musicdish

One of their releases is a song called "900 Miles." This tune is a great example of how these two musicians can mix styles. Where the lyrics and Bethany's tone affect a melancholy and ghostly feeling, Rufus' bass line is inescapably funky. One finds himself dancing to this ballad of a forlorn traveller. As Bethany sings, "if this train runs me right, I'll be home tomorrow night, 'cause I'm 900 miles from my home." A strange mix, to be sure, but Bethany and Rufus make it sound beautiful.

Along with this song comes a music video. The piece depicts both musicians slowly trekking down a long desolate railroad track and cuts to scenes of them playing together in a small cabin. The imagery captures the meaning of the song in an eery setting. It evokes a feeling of loneliness and desperation as Bethany sings of the train that will bear her home, a train that never seems to come.

New York's Rachael Sage To Appear On New "Fame" Film Soundtrack

New York, NY - MPress Records is pleased to announce that Rachael Sage's song "Too Many Women" will be featured in the new "Fame" film hitting theatres on September 25, 2009. The soundtrack album will be available for digital and physical purchase nationally on August 25, 2009. "Too Many Women", which also appears on Sage's critically acclaimed album "Public Record", was hand-picked by director Kevin Tancharoen, and remixed by Damon Elliot specifically for the movie.

Rachael Sage's song appears on the "Fame" soundtrack alongside such notable artists as Santigold, Naturi Naughton, Meghan Mullally and Sam Sparro. For a full track-listing, visit: http://www.lakeshore-records.com/fame.

Being involved in this project carries special meaning for Sage, who reveals: "When I saw 'Fame' as a kid, the characters resonated with me so much...By the time the TV series came out I'd already decided I wanted to grow up to be a combination of Leroy, Coco and Bruno - who definitely inspired me to get my first synthesizer!"

As a teenager, Sage's passion for dance ultimately carried her to the renowned School of American Ballet (located directly across the street from the performing arts high school upon which "Fame" was based). "A lot of dancers at S.A.B also attended the High School For Performing Arts, so there's definitely a big nostalgia-factor for me." Sage eventually performed with the New York City Ballet, and also studied at the legendary Actors Studio, before turning her focus entirely toward being a musician.

About the Film:
A reinvention of the original Oscar®-winning hit film, Fame follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School for Performing Arts. The cast includes a host of newcomers in the student roles, but fans of the original film will be pleased to find Debbie Allen recast as Principal Angela Simms; the faculty casting also features such luminary talent as Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth. For further information on the film, visit: www.generationfame.com.

About Rachael Sage:
Self-taught musician, poet and producer Rachael Sage radiates what MOJO Magazine calls "warm, intelligent...NY indie charm". An innovative, improvisational keyboardist, she performs over 150 dates a year with her band The Sequins throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Sage, who has shared stages with Ani DiFranco, Colin Hay, The Animals and Judy Collins, was recently named one of the Top 100 Independent Artists Of The Past 15 Years by Performing Songwriter magazine. A two-time Independent Music Award Winner, Sage has earned a loyal following for her infectious melodies, poetic lyrics and often-outrageous, colorful stage banter.

Her latest self-produced album, CHANDELIER, was mixed by Kevin Killen (U2, Elvis Costello), and contains 13 tracks of what Performing Songwriter magazine calls "engaging pop arrangements and gripping melodies".

Fresh from her successful run in Scotland at Edinburgh's Fringe Festival, Rachael Sage brings her new show "Sequins & Shpiel" to the West Coast. Be sure to check out her live rendition of the song "Fame" that The Herald (Edinburgh) calls the "hit of Fringe 2009."

Download "How Much" MP3 by John Hampson of Nine Days Fame

"John Hampson's latest offering maintains the pop sensibility we all remember from his time with Nine Days and the hit single, "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)." But "How Much" has a few new, and much welcomed, changes. While Hampson's ability for hit-writing remains strongly evident, this song has the tone and musicality of a much more diverse and interesting composer. He melds many instrument sounds and rhythms building the song from light verse to rich chorus soaked with smooth vocal harmony and warm timbres. The bridge is the real ear-catcher and with touching lyrics and driving rhythms it's the musical highlight of this tune. Hampson sews familiar emotions to strong melodies and warmth and makes this song worth listening to." - Review by Jon Peritz

ABOUT JOHN HAMPSON OF NINE DAYS
John Hampson first burst on to the scene as lead singer and songwriter for Nine Days, a rock/power pop band who hit Gold with "Absoluely (Story of a Girl)" in the early 2000's and who still has popularity today. John has since pursued a solo career. His songs have been heard in many TV shows and Films and the hit song that made the band famous is still a modern rock radio staple. Recently, he had a hit with "The In Crowd" sung by Mitchell Musso for Hollywood/Disney Records (produced by Brian Malouf) as well.

UM2N Review: P*L*A*Y AH by Swagga Jonez fka "Budha"

"I'm a P-L-A-Y AH Reason why your girl called and wanna break up Say she tired of scrubs, she need a moneymaker A hustler that do it big and ride On twenty two's and up And I'm that dude And I'm that guy They say it's so clean They say it's so fly And I'm that guy And I'm that dude And even when it's summer I'm still cool"

Download P*L*A*Y AH by Swagga Jonez fka "Budha" (mp3) | Buy it on iTunes

The track "P*L*A*Y AH" by Swagga Jonez fka "Budha" is somewhat of a musical paradox. I say this because it has some ole school flavor blended into a Hip Hop and Rap combination. But the irony doesn't end there. Usually, most rappers stick with one perception of women, but BUDHA mixes it up like he respects a portion of the female population and gives them their props, and makes it clear that he has only one use for the rest. I find that to be pretty interesting.

"My grandpa was a Mack My brother was too Treat a woman like a woman

Share a ho with the crew"

My favorite verse on the track is the following because he really hits a home run about the difference between being fake and being real:

"I'm an A+ You're an F- I'm an Obama You're a Clarence Thomas Justified player Justified mack You girl gone, bruh and that alone Justifies that"

Overall, the track has a nice beat and you can definitely dance to it (I know I did), but it doesn't quite complete the task of distinguishing itself from other rap songs. But Budah has collaborated with other well know artists such as producer Droop-E and rap legend Bun B of UKG, and these and other music affiliations will continue to shape him and his music, and as he continues to make music, I think he will become more comfortable with finding his "own sound." My opinion is that we'll see him come into his own with future releases.
