GrooveShine from Santa Barbara is celebrating the release of their self-titled debut album at Velvet Jones on Friday June 27. Independently produced, the album’s 12 original tracks provide a snapshot of GrooveShine’s upbeat and danceable sound.
Formed in 2012 by producer Mike Mchugh, GrooveShine combines acoustic-based songwriting with funk, reggae, and hip hop rhythms. As a prolific songwriter, beatmaker and DJ, Mchugh merged favorite genres to create a unique sound and style of musical production. GrooveShine joins the energy of acoustic rock with hip hop production techniques and multi-influenced beats.
The album’s final track, “All the Ways of Love”, was the first song written and recorded in the new group of songs. It’s also the only non-beat based song; but rhythm is amply filled-in by acoustic guitar and a cameo appearance on keyboard and synth strings by Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters).
GrooveShine’s live performances are highly energetic, with a plethora of on-stage activity, percussion and guest vocalists, including the legendary Mr. Beenie from Jamaica and John Ajao from Nigeria.
Musical influences include Led Zepplin, J Dilla, Bob Marley, Dr. Dre, Bob Dylan, Tribe Called Quest, James Brown, Ernest Ranglin, and Sublime.
The new GrooveShine album can be heard and downloaded free at grooveshine.com. GrooveShine’s Facebook page is facebook.com/grooveshinemusic.
GrooveShine also offers a free application for Apple and Android devices, which can be downloaded from Apple and Google Play stores. The GrooveShine App provides fans with music, videos, and an updated show schedule.
