MusicDish Network Buzz - October 27, 2008

Here are the latest happenings over here at MusicDish HQ...

Amy Speace (amyspeace.musicdish.net) will be performing her NERFA showcase on Friday November 14, 2008 (11:05 - 11:20 PM) in the Dutchess Room at the Hudson Valley Resort in Kerhonkson, NY. Amy has also been invited to an official Performance Alley Showcase, during the International Folk Alliance Conference being held on February 18-22, 2009 in Memphis, Tennessee. Further details will be announced on Amy site (www.amyspeace.com) as they become available.

MusicDish has an exclusive new interview available online with Hell's Kitchen rock legend Tim Young. The interview digs into Tim's musical influences, personal reflections of his new album "The Cost", and his future, among other things. Read all about it at http://musicdishnetwork.blogspot.com/2008/10/interview-by-tim-young-bringing-new.html

MusicDish's newest client, Bethany & Rufus (www.bethanyandrufus.com), will be playing a show as part of the First Acoustics Concert Series at the First Unitarian Church in Brooklyn, New York. Bethany & Rufus edge deeper in the darker spaces between groove, jazz and a gritty approach to traditional folk. With Yarrow's voice shadowing Cappadocia's plucky melodic/rhythmic approach to the bass, the two blend influences from dusty American field recordings to modern jazz (the cheeky "Isn't That So"), from light folk-pop (the snappy title track, "900 Miles") to the griot traditions of Africa ("If I Had My Way (Samson & Delilah)"). Hypnotic pieces like "The Swallow" and "Asturiana" allow Cappadocia to venture into chamber music territory as he creates haunting, sustained notes under his partner's ethereal lead. Get all the details, including box office information, at http://www.firstacoustics.org/events/index.php

Also, Bethany will be performing with her father Peter (of Peter, Paul and Mary fame) at the Lincoln Triangle Barnes & Noble in New York City on November 8. Kids will make a joyful noise with these ever-popular classic songs! Lively, warm, and friendly, this illustrated collection - plus a CD with Peter Yarrow, his daughter Bethany, and cellist Rufus Cappadocia - will bring families together to read and to sing. We have two new videos on MusicDishTV this week! First is a live performance video of the eclectic New York City chamber ensemble/band Sound Liberation performing their song "Luck". "This particular performance has it all - rapping, guitar and trumpet solos, male/female shared vocals, and even a cello. Who would have thought that a jazz/hip-hop combination could sound so good?" Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeRndxa0VtY

Second is a music video from rising electro-pop star Tyla Durden for her song "Fellas". "'Fellas' by Tyla Durden is electro-pop at its finest. While Tyla seduces you with her charming vocals and a catchy chorus, hard-hitting synthesizers threaten to knock you out." Watch it @ http://revver.com/video/1277519/tyla-durden-fellas/
