Jamaican Hip Hop Artist Nomad Carlos Releases New Single "Live Good"

Helping bring Jamaican Hip Hop into the limelight, Nomad Carlos has just dropped his new single “Live Good” as a free download this week in preparation for the fall release of his new mixtape, “Me Against the Grain.”

Raised in Kingston from the age of 5, Nomad worked his way up through Jamaica's Reggae and Dancehall dominated music industry to become one of the frontrunners in an effort to bring Hip Hop to the mainstream of Jamaica. “This is an ongoing struggle I go through in my own country. Gatekeepers to the music industry turn a blind eye to the local Hip Hop community,” expresses Nomad. “A lot of Hip Hop artists aren't getting any recognition or exposure… the masses don't even know about the scene...I'm part of a committee where we put on our own shows once a month called #PayAttention. We as Hip Hop artists, producers and people of interest had to come together and make it happen. It's a place for the scene to gather and vibe with our local following and supporters. It's been successful so far and is definitely helping to propel the scene.”

When asked about the difference between an album and a mixtape, Nomad explained, “The difference between a mixtape and a CD really is that a mixtape is a free release of music while a CD is an official release that you will have to pay for. Nowadays the market is becoming over saturated with mixtapes. Good mixtapes are the ones that sound like actual albums. I prefer to go hard on all my projects even if it's a free mixtape so that people can know what to expect from me when I drop a CD (album).”

The new single “Live Good” was produced by DJ King Flow from France. He hopes to widen his international exposure by releasing the single online for free before the fall release of his new mixtape, “Me Against the Grain.”

“I want to introduce myself to the market. I want to grab the attention of listeners who would be interested in my music so they can look forward to the progression of my career.”

Reggae Artist KC Jockey Is Looking For "A Better Jamaica" With New, Free Downloadable Tribute

Karl-Marx Waite of Sweet Sadie's Records announced the release of KC Jockey's new track, "A Better Jamaica." The track is a tribute to the artist's homeland, and one that he hopes will be an anthem for better days ahead. "A Better Jamaica" can be downloaded from KC Jockey's website free of charge, as it is his present to the people of Jamaica and all who love the beautiful country.

According to the CIA World Facebook, "Jamaica is currently plagued with high crime rates and corruption, large scale unemployment and under employment, and the 4th highest debt burden per capita in the world." Other sources state that, "The total life expectancy for Jamaicans has been declining since at least 2004, at which time it was 76. The rate of violence is particularly high in Kingston, and spreading to other areas. That issue is beginning to affect tourism, which accounts for one fifth of Jamaica's GDP with $4 billion/year in revenues." And with the upcoming election, the situation may become even worse.

Maccow grew up in New York City, where he hooked up and played with various New York bands in The Big Apple. Now based in L.A., one of the the projects that he's planning to embark upon is a world tour that will bring him and his band to Asia by the end of 2010.

His standing against commercialization of the music began in the '80s and it has since then developed into a pure vintage reggae sound, very similar to the music of the Jamaican superstar, Bob Marley. His stories, the way he sings about social issues, love, and pain, are all coming deeply from the heart of a man. Hip-Hop Supergroup Fly Gypsy Debuts With Summertime Single "You"

Jamaican emcee Kowboy Kom and Russian producer Alexei Jendayi launch today their much-anticipated joint project, a hip-hop group Fly Gypsy. The duo's first single "You," featuring Brazilian songstress Tattiana Aqeel-de Oliveira, will be released in July 2009. It is currently available on the group's website, www.FlyGypsy.com. The video for the single will be shot in Jamaica by Ras Kassa, a video director critically acclaimed for his work with Damian Marley, Sean Paul, and Willie Nelson.

Alexei and Kowboy Kom formed Fly Gypsy after successfully collaborating on an election-time single, "The Ruler," in the fall of 2008. The single and the video became a viral success, scoring high rankings on YouTube and earning praise from hip-hop bloggers. After "The Ruler" and several other tracks recorded in the same period received overwhelmingly positive response from both fans and industry insiders, Alexei and Kowboy Kom decided to continue as a group.

"My production is quite varied, ranging from soulful 70s sounds to club bangers, from afro-beat to guitar-heavy rock anthems," says Alexei. "What especially impressed me about Kom at the outset was his ability to flow over just about any type of music and do it incredibly well."

"The diversity of the Fly Gypsy sound is what I enjoy the most about what we do," says Kowboy Kom. "I grew up listening to a lot of different music, from Rakim to Coltrane, from Buju Banton to Kenny Rogers, and Alexei's production style allows me to dip into all those influences and keep my flow musically rich."

In addition to the diverse musical influences, Kowboy Kom and Alexei share an immigrant background. Kom was born in Jamaica and came to the United States at the age of ten. Growing up in New York during the golden era of Hip-Hop, Kom was inspired by fellow artists of West Indian descent, including Wyclef Jean, Busta Rhymes, and Notorious B.I.G. Alexei was born and raised in Russia, performing music and dancing much of his life. He first came to the United States at the invitation of the U.S. government and later returned to attend college and law school. Alexei spent four years practicing international law at one of the world's top law firms before deciding to leave and pursue a music career full-time.
