Former Kraftwerk man Wolfgang Flür has collaborated with Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto for a special limited edition single. The record, released as a seven-inch on clear vinyl with a pressing of just 750 copies, features two mixes of a track called 'Staying In The Shadow', one mix by Wolfgang and the other by Jack. It will be available via the Electronic Sound Music Club, a subscription service recently launched by the Electronic Sound magazine app.

‘Staying In The Shadow’ marks the beginning of a new chapter for Wolfgang Flür. It's his first single for 11 years and he is in the process of putting together his first album since 1996. Wolfgang is best known for his years with Kraftwerk (1973 to 1987), when he made up one quarter of the classic line-up of "the Beatles of electronic music" (Rolling Stone magazine) and played on their most important albums, including ‘Autobahn’, ‘Radio-Activity’, ‘Trans Europe Express’, ‘The Man Machine’ and ‘Computer World’.

Jack Dangers’ ongoing musical project is Meat Beat Manifesto, whose first records in the late 1980s influenced a generation of electronic artists using samplers, including The Prodigy and Future Sound Of London. He moved from the UK to San Francisco in the 1990s. He has worked as a producer/remixer with David Bowie, Depeche Mode, David Byrne and Nine Inch Nails among many others and remains a highly regarded pioneer of electronic music.

Wolfgang and Jack started work on ‘Staying In The Shadow’ last December, shuttling audio files between Düsseldorf and San Francisco before finalising the two mixes in February. The record features heavy use of an EMS 3000 vocoder, a vintage 1970s machine that was also used by Kraftwerk for their signature "robot voice" effect.

The collaboration was initiated by the Electronic Sound magazine app, who brought the pair together with the specific plan of creating a one-off limited edition seven-inch single to mark the launch of the Electronic Sound Music Club. A Kickstarter campaign for the club is currently underway.
