Heartbreak Hotel Comes To Brooklyn's Pete's Candy Store On September 21st

Pete's Candy Store on September 21st will be the place to be for Heartbreak Hotel - the theme of the night. Come and reminisce with singer/songwriter Maya Solovéy and let moody dark and white chocolates melt away your worries. Maya herself will be making homemade raw chocolate truffles, and everyone gets a red velvet cloth to tantalize their sense of touch, as the fragrance of incense fills the air.

Solovey, who writes and records in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and who normally performs on the guitar, has a hidden talent ' she also plays piano. She's written several songs that people have never heard before, and is looking forward to sharing them with the audience. She states, "Most people know that I play the guitar, but very few know that the piano was actually my first instrument. So, the songs that I'll be performing will be new to almost everyone. They have a much different tone, and almost all focus on relationships, since the piano is such a convenient instrument for the "dramatic ballad," she chuckles. "But I will try to throw some redemption in there towards the end, since one can only take so many heartbreak songs, myself included."

Solovey will perform at 9:30 p.m.

As an international artist and a trilingual songwriter, Maya Solovey has merged the acoustic/folk songwriting tradition into the territories of pop, bossa nova, and even the high drama of cinematic scoring. Her music is a surprising, yet rational marriage between many cultures as she sings in Portuguese, Spanish and her native English tongue. Her new self-titled album, Maya Solovey, released July 15th, has already gathered notice from journalists and music critics. Her song "Eu Vi" was featured in a Ralph Lauren runway video for winter fashion week, while her song "Como Yo Lloro Por Ti" will be featured on a in a FIFA World Cup compilation, and another 3 songs will be featured in an upcoming shark documentary called "Shark Allies". Tom Moon, on air critic for NPR, and journalist for Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine said, "Here's a rarity: An original voice who really is original! Drawing inspiration from all over the map, Maya Solovey has developed a deep, enchanting sound that's unlike anything else out there right now." Bassy Bob Brockmann, a multiple Grammy winning producer/mixer said, "Maya Solovey is an exceptional songwriter, possessed of a voice that is haunting, soothing, and erotic all at the same time. Her music, I'm sure, will change the world."
