Japan's Number One Urban Radio Show Celebrates More Than 2000 Shows

Joint One Radio Show, hosted by former Los Angeles DJ, Joey Slick, celebrates over 2000 shows and 10 years on air as part of the all-star lineup on Tokyo Japan's INTERFM76.1 radio station.

Joey Slick is in the house!!! Joey who? You might ask. Disc jockey Joey Slick is the host of the weekly Joint One Radio show in Japan. This special mix show has been on the air & retained on behalf of undeniable ratings for the past 10 years on JODW 76.1 INTERFM Tokyo (Saturday nights from 11pm-12am). Joint One recently aired their 2,105th show, highlighting the recording industry's most current R&B, Hip-Hop/RAP & Reggae music! Known for keeping the programming fresh and "safely" open to extremes, the music appeals to a broad range of demographics, constantly increasing the show's popularity. (Dark Shadow Magazine)

Born and raised in Monterey Park California, a small town just outside of Los Angeles, Joey began his career as most DJ's did. At age 13, he and some friends gathered whatever equipment and records they could get their hands on and spun their disks at local school dances and parties. Dedicating his all to perfecting his craft over the next several years, Joeys sounds were eventually heard on KVCM, KUCI, KPWR, and various high profile events.

In 1999, while a live mix show DJ on Los Angeles radio powerhouse, KPWR 105.9 FM on the famed Baka Boyz show, Joey Slick was recruited to play on Japan's 81.3 FM for J-Wave's Soul Train Radio program, which was broadcasting live remote shows from Los Angeles. He was then invited to tour Tokyo, spinning live at J-Wave radio station and elite club events. Shortly after returning home, Joey Slick returned to Japan for another radio and club tour and on this trip, Joey played at J-Wave, Tokyo FM, Yokohama FM, Northwave FM, and InterFM. Within 2 weeks, after returning from this tour, he was recruited by Tokyo's 76.1 MHz InterFM and given a 4 hour prime time slot. (Monday - Friday 6PM - 10 PM Live) Joint One Radio was born and made Japanese Radio History as Joey's show drove 76.1 InterFM to the #1 spot in Japanese radio with the first ever prime-time urban radio show in the country. The Joint One Radio show has remained in the number one spot consistently for the last ten years and continues to make history with its pioneering founder, Joey Slick.

Joint One Radio, historically, remains the first show dedicated to contemporary R&B, Hip-Hop & Reggae music from American artists on prime-time radio. Utilizing quality control and context programming, Joint One Radio inclusively gives light to striving local Japanese music as well. Through the record pool, they have access to the newest music in the world. Their mission is to expose the freshest/hottest sounds to listeners of all ages. On tasteful occasion, they will even bring back and spin a classic from the 70's, 80's or 90's, just to prove that great music still has power and appeal. Joint One has also been producing new undiscovered artists, as well as creating their own original scores.

When it comes to music of this genre, Joint One Radio and Record Pool are the pipeline to all of Japan. When you think of where the heartbeat of American music is today, thoughts of Los Angeles or New York may cross your mind. At the very least, we may think that our radio stations should be playing the most current music in the industry. Think twice because most likely, these same songs were first aired on InterFM 76.1 Tokyo. (Dark Shadow Magazine)

Ever the Pioneers, Joey and partner Shuzz began the Joint One Record Pool Japan, in 2007 to service Japanese DJs with the latest selected joints from the U.S., as well as take on local talent, while providing the latest music from the Joint One Record Pool to a very hungry Japanese audience. Every Major and independent Japanese music label has worked with Joint One Radio and Joint One created opportunities for all U.S. labels to have their music exposed to Japan. Joint One Radio is still making history as Japan's longest running urban mix show and with Joey Slick as the first DJ to have an official site with NTT Docomo, Japan's largest cell service provider with over 50 million users. Exclusive Joint One mixes will be available on NTT Docomo later this year.

Joint One Record Pool was created in 1997 in Los Angeles, expanding into Japan in 2007, and Joint One, LLC was established by Shuzz in 2008, to make Joint One services available business to business.
