Cinq Music Partners With Rock Group TRAPT, Drops New Single

Indie distributor, label and publisher Cinq Music has partnered with Multi-Platinum American rock band TRAPT to release a new single with visionary rapper An0maly. The signing and new song were announced by Cinq Senior VP of A&R Marcus Spence. Titled, COME TOGETHER, the single, along with accompanying video will be available Friday, November 16 on all major digital music outlets. TRAPT's previous label was Warner Bros.



"TRAPT is an uncompromising rock band embraced by millions of fans in these tense and anxious times," says Spence. "Their song catalog is strong and passionate, yet always full of reflection. Instrumental rock guitarist Mike Dekleva releases his second four song instrumental rock music EP, "Psychedelia," on Friday, November 9, 2018.



"Psychedelia" follows in the footsteps of Dekleva's critically acclaimed and award-winning 2015 debut instrumental rock EP, "Synergy." Like "Synergy," Dekleva's new EP "Psychedelia" is a collection of four new original instrumental rock songs and was recorded at Paragon Recording Studios in Franklin, Tennessee, and in Dekleva's home recording studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. "Psychedelia" was co-produced by Dekleva and Nashville session guitarist Robbie Calvo, and features performances by Dekleva (lead, rhythm and acoustic guitars), Robbie Calvo (rhythm guitars), Jason Webb (piano and keyboards), Amanda McCoy (bass guitar) and Grady Saxman (drums and percussion). "Psychedelia" was mixed by Casey Barker at Paragon Recording Studios, and mastered by John Mayfield at Mayfield Mastering, in Nashville Tennessee.



Dekleva's guitar playing has drawn favorable comparisons to the playing of renowned guitarists Steve Lukather, Neal Schon, Dan Huff, and Eric Clapton. His music features strong vocal-like guitar melodies and pop-style musical arrangements, but also incorporates elements of classic hard rock music from the '70's and '80's. Yet, there are many other reasons too. It was worth letting everyone know that there are some good young players here on the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast. We were very privileged to have Rick Hirsch agree to engineer it. His insights from the era we touched on were primary. He is a primary source! We were very excited to work with him.



I also wanted to reach an under-served audience. We still hear songs like Led Boots on the radio; so there are still folks out there who like this music. This release has a lot to with the reverence and respect for the guys who made this music famous. If a few guys in their 20s and 30s can bring it to a grassroots audience, so much the better. That's how things get started. We need more musicians making music like this.



Most importantly, this is my first release and I wanted to begin with what I know best. Playing the drums."

Carys is a singer songwriter with an enthusiastic and evocative stage presence displaying a natural charm that has won her many admirers, not only within the folk scene, but also far beyond it. The Union Of Sinners And Saints Releases 'Independence Day'

The Union of Sinners and Saints, a band featuring Petra's lead singer John Schlitt and Whiteheart founding member Billy Smiley, is bringing back an oldie, but a goodie with a new recording of the No. 1 hit "Independence Day." The remake, originally from Whiteheart's popular "Powerhouse" album, was produced by Smiley and features Schlitt's distinctive vocals. The single, which is being released today, is going for adds at Christian Rock and Christian CHR-formatted radio stations.

Obsidian - Throw It Back with Their Latest, 'XV'

The men who make up Obsidian have pasts made up of a variety of sounds, but they came together to form a band that took a page out of the past, tossed in a raw element and resulted in an eclectic mass of rock. Their album, XV, was recorded in one take, song after song with no breaks, no effects minus a bit on guitar, just a few men and their instruments taking on their craft with precision.

Cole and Reggie came up together in the Orange County scene back in the 80's and after they connected with Brad, their sound transformed from what was popular at the time, New Wave, to a more substance filled rock. Meeting in the halls of their high school, their love of music was undeniable - no matter the genre, and Cole notes, "Since we got together the first time we have been jamming and experimenting ever since." That experimentation has led them to their latest, XV, an album that Cole knows is standing out from the current releases, "I don't believe anyone is doing this except maybe Jack White, who is looking at the old blues bands and their simplicity to form an eclectic prequel to relive what was good about back then."

Dream rock duo, Maheekats, releases EUREKA

Dream rock duo, Maheekats, has released a new psychedelic epic song called Eureka. Fans are describing it as "a masterpiece".

"We knew this song was going to be tough to record." says Clara Hembree, lead singer of the band. "Because of all of the intricacies involved with this piece, we had to build the arrangement one instrument at a time."

The song dives back in time and captures Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" to use towards the finale of the nearly seven minute journey.

Shifting Shape of Alternative Rock Music: Shy Shape

Rock music exploded on the scene in the 1950's with Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" and the British Invasion of 1962 spearheaded by The Beatles. It has since morphed through eras including progression and punk to arrive at one of its current manifestations, that of alternative rock. The subgenre has in turn spawned its own proliferation of styles, and it can be tough for new bands to find their place in the mix. New Jersey based Shy Shape enters the fray with its own spin on doom-wop. Their sound retains the 50's style rhythms mixed with dark chords and gloomy lyrics pioneered by supergroup Mr. Heavenly, but amps up the dance factor. "We create music for those times when you become so emotional--maybe even broken down--that you just have to get up and move," says Shy Shape founder and lead singer Mike Dugan.

Shy Shape is carving its niche in the alternative rock landscape by juxtaposing the energy of the genre's early days against modern reflections on the ups and downs of life. In kindergarten Dugan performed The Cavalier's "Last Kiss" in front of his entire school. Based on a true story, the song expresses the pain and longing of a lover left behind when his beloved is killed in a car accident in which he is the driver. The tragic account plays out over a haunting, yet danceable beat. In real life the driver, his date, and another teen were killed, while two other teens were seriously injured. The song reflects the outpouring of grief from a whole town about the accident, one of many that occurred on the same heavily trafficked stretch of highway.

For Dugan, performing "Last Kiss" in kindergarten set the tone for what Shy Shape is about. "It helps to sing about heartbreak," he says, "and sometimes to get through it you have to dance." Shy Shape's music infuses garage-rocker sensibilities with the hushed, smooth tones of the doo-wop era. The band recently released its debut EP, Out at Night on Noisy Poet Records / Sony Music Entertainment's The Orchard. The EP features the single "River City", an energetic payback song about failed relationships from the past. Much of the band's material is inspired by its members' life experiences.

While the concept of doom-wop may not be original to Shy Shape, singing and dancing in the face of life's edgier moments seems to resonate with fans. The band performs regularly in front of enthusiastic crowds around the Philadelphia and New Jersey music scene. And, contrary to its nonconformist roots, alternative rock continues to be a platform for creative expression that resonates with a broad and growing spectrum of fans.

Rasha Jay "Cicada" Echoes The Timeless Sound Of The Alternative Rock Scene

Raised in the tiny town of Owings, Maryland, Rasha Jay was raised on a mix of R&B and pop, but immediately drawn to the alternative and grunge male voices of the 1990s, alongside a steady diet of classic rock. "I loved raw, gritty voices with a wide vocal range," she says. "It was all about the power." Early influences: Pearl Jam, Jack White, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys and Blues legend, Big Mama Thornton.

"Cicada" echoes the timeless sound of the alternative rock scene: think the energy of Foo Fighters combined with the melodies of Arctic Monkeys and the earnest lyricism of Pearl Jam. Then, take this vision and add an incredibly soulful vocal style, in the wake of influential R&B masters such as James Brown or Etta James, just to mention a few.

Written by Rasha Jay and co-produced by Todd Stevenson, "Cicada's" lead track is the passion-packed "Rubbish." Alongside rock, blues and a touch of soul, the song features grimacing guitars and fist-pumping tempo, as she taunts, "I give you these arms but they ain't open wide, Who said that you could come home?/We could have reached the top and looked down… and you ran before the dark became the light."

Rasha Jay explains, "The song was written quickly after a disastrous phone call with someone I was supposed to be working with on music. I had the guitar riff from my producer, Todd and instead of getting angry, I started singing to the riff—and the lyrics and melody poured out. I like to think the song has bite."

The overall theme of "Cicada" is observation. "I watch and listen well," she says. "I wrote the songs while walking outside or in my apartment at 3 in the morning." An example is EP track "She Sleeps Wild", which was written after a discussion with her mother about her sister's sleeping habits, "It grew into something more symbolic and deeper than her alone."

Rasha Jay seeks to reach audiences with the energy of this EP, memorable hooks and a distinctive, raw voice that soars into the fray of modern female rock artists.

Jack Spann - David Bowie Demo Sessions For Blackstar - Led To First Solo Studio LP Time, Time, Time, Time, Time On April 19th

"Around the music community of New York, his home since 1999, he's known as Jack Spann. In St. Louis, many more will remember him as Jon Rosen, a Webster University grad who gigged in all kinds of band-and-solo contexts throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In both places, he's known as a keyboardist of unusual range and skill, able to play on pretty much any project offered.

His talents have landed him a variety of gigs over the years, but he wasn't able to discuss one of them until recently. Even now, he's contractually (and, to some degree, ethically) unable to tell the entire story of a three-days-and-change gig in 2014. The short version: Spann played with David Bowie during the run-up to the rock legend's final album, the magnificent Blackstar.

"A mutual friend introduced me to Tony Visconti, maybe April or May of 2014," Spann says, citing Bowie's frequent producer and arranger. "He'd gone to my site, I guess, and then called me one day, out of the blue." 'We need a piano player who can play jazz, can play rock, but not jazz-rock. We don't want Chick Corea.' He and Bowie had been listening to a lot of Stan Kenton, the white Thelonious Monk. I called him back and went into the studio the next morning."

There, Spann recalls, "This guy walked up to me at 9:55 a.m. 'Hello, Jack, I'm David. We're going to have a great time.' 'Oh, hi David.' Really, it's hard to describe how nice he was to me. He was really, really genuinely interested in how and what I was playing. Overall, he was just a delight to work with." - Thomas Crone - STLMag.com

Meeting David Bowie and working on song demos for Blackstar led Jack Spann to working with producer Gary Tanin (Sam Llanas, Daryl Stuermer, Roger Powell) and the making of Jack's first full length studio album "Time, Time, Time, Time, Time."

FAZI is one of the founding fathers of rock and roll in China in the early post-Mao era.

A bit of background:
As label founder, I have a DIY ethic.

I spent the 90's in The Undertoad, that seminal noise monster outta Pomona, CA. I then travelled to Beijing in 1995 and started a band with FAZI. We played historic gigs at Yuan Ming Yuan and the disco scene in Beijing.

I just love FAZI's voice. The recordings are mostly pretty lo-fi stuff due to the conditions at the time in Beijing that mostly prohibited rock and roll, but it has a lot of passion.
