Sonz Of Thunder UK Champion A Message Of Unity On New Single "London City Anthem"

Music Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn4H5erdvDo

A message of solidarity and unity, this track and it's creators choose to take a view of their city which is inclusive and optimistic. Like so much of the best Reggae and Dancehall music, "London City Anthem" was inspired by challenging times. Written in response to the recent terror attacks at the London Bridge and Finsbury Park, "London City Anthem" is a song born of darkness which encourages audiences to reach for the light.

Natives of Northwestern London, brothers Shane and Dean Brown are inspired to create socially conscious music which moves bodies and generates thoughtful dialogue around important themes guiding our modern society. Choosing Reggae, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, RnB and Gospel as their creative tools, the brothers create music which inspires hearts and minds to see the opportunity in the world around them.

The Sonz of Thunder UK have a history of drawing inspiration from socially charged and politically challenging times. Following the death of South African President Nelson Mandela, the brothers Brown knew they had to write a song which would celebrate his life.

The musical production and video treatment for their track "Mandela" is considered a creative high point for the group. From the unique sound effects to the uplifting messages of unity and solidarity, "Mandela" is a vibrant musical celebration of the life of one of the most heroic individuals of all times. Nelson Mandela left an enduring legacy of freedom and opportunity on our world and the Sonz of Thunder UK have been able to champion this history and distill it into rhythmic dancehall inspired package.

Released on New River Sound Music, "London City Anthem" is a pulsing tribute to one of the world's most important cities. Building on past successes such as "Mandela" and "More to Life", "London City Anthem" promises a bright future for Sonz of UK Thunder and the city they love so much. Be sure to check out timely lyrics and bouncing island vibes of Sonz of Thunder UK's new single "London City Anthem"!

Music Release Helps Dementia Patients Find Their Mojo

Band Name: Valley Of Kings
EP Title: Midnight Live

House Of Guilty Pleasures
https://youtu.be/KJmQy-7_vtM
Rock Steady
https://youtu.be/gLhCDST_1PA
Kenetic
https://youtu.be/CsCqfGccCzU

Valley Of Kings are a very soulful Rock band from the heartland of East Sussex, made up of frontman songwriter and producer Dar.Ra, Aiden Purdey and Rory Purdey, and recently witnessed that music still holds the power to reach people beyond words after creating music workshops in a Dementia care home in East Sussex recently. It was surprising to see how the residents responded to hearing music and how it triggered off past memories which brought happiness and laughter to the residents.

Dar.Ra has graced the UK national charts and dance charts with two top 40's and two number one dance records with acts signed to EMI, BMG, Festival Records (Australia) plus remixed legends like Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Tears 4 Fears, Urban Harmonix ft Rachel Brown (Faithless, Groove Armada) and many others along the way. His first solo album Soul Hours released in 2010 made album of the week of Spain's Heart FM as well as receiving support from BBC Radio, playing to over 1 million people on an air live show.

The Purdey brothers add soul to the unit, and they have a huge amount of musical DNA in their blood being related to the late great John Martyn OBE who had a 40 year career, and worked with some of the greats from Eric Clapton to Dave Gilmore.

The boys got the band together after finding out they loved the same records and began playing shows in the South East. They wrote an album in 6 months, booked into Neil Costello's (Paul Macartney/Stevie Wonder) studio and recorded the whole thing in 8 hours. The boys wanted to go back to the way records were made back in the days of the one take and release it mode.

They recorded their debut EP Midnight and found something interesting happened when Dar.Ra was doing his music workshop in a Dementia care home.

Music has a natural power to go beyond words, people with dementia hold key memories which can be triggered by certain songs which can stimulate the mind, releasing endorphins which can lift a persons spirit, when nothing else can.

'While playing certain songs its an amazing thing to see someone go from staring into space to seeing a smile break out on their face, and suddenly they want to move their body and play along to the music, it is like witnessing magic happen'.

After playing a set of tracks one of the staff put on the Midnight Live EP, the response from the residents was to play along to it, while others where tapping their feet, which was the most wonderful experience to see, after all words had failed, but music made the difference.

The music industry has taken some near death blows since the internet and the Pop Idol shows and this has changed the way people respect music and musicians, so to see music being felt by people with no agendas restores any doubt in the power of music. It goes beyond chart success and back to the reason why music is so essential to the human soul.

The Valley of Kings create a hybrid of Rock, Soul, and Reggae, mixed with a high energy that makes the Live show well worth having a look at which you can do by coming down to Printers Playhouse Eastbourne where they will be headlining on the 16th Jan with support from up and coming mod influenced band The Gallery's from Kent who recently supported Secret Affair.

The EP Midnight Live is out in Jan 2016 on Kusha Deep Records

MusicDish Review: BIMB Family Debut Single "Steppin' On My Coat"

http://mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=180431

The timeless Bob Marley song "Exodus" was an anthem of self-empowerment; nothing can get in your way to accomplish what you want. However more often than not, it's hard to see how the decision we make affect our lives and what we will become; and sometimes for the worst. But there is always hope, a shimmer of light that can lead you to a better path for yourself.

With such a powerful message, it's only appropriate that the new musical act BIMB Family release their positive, debut single "Steppin' On My Coat". Their unique blend of reggae and hip-hop which they coined "Dub 2.0" is a perfect sonic mixture of reggae bass lines and hip-hop energy. Their new single represents the trials and tribulations of the group and how through self-improvement, they are now on a better path.

"Steppin' On My Coat" starts off with heavy subs that instantaneously bang. Coupled with reggae's staple "bubble" piano rhythm, the track begins with a force to be reckoned with as BIMB Family's rappers spit their own version of self-actualization. From wishing they worked harder, to making better decision, what resounds the most in their record is their hook "Only I Can Stop Me, I'm My Worst Enemy".

Their positive messages offer a much-needed message for not letting circumstances or self pity take over you, but rather assume responsibility and be the change you want to be. Each rapper has a distinct delivery, from blazing fast rhymes to more grimy and rough-around-the edges of flow. Each unique take on the song adds a personalized touch to the listener, as they can relate to all facets of the song.

This is definitely a solid debut single from the Brooklyn based music group. What sets them apart is creating a whole new lane with their very own sub-genre of "Dub 2.0". With innovative sound and incredibly artful lyrics, BIMB Family is sure to be the talk of the town within the music community and has the potential to branch out into a real big movement.

Hip-Hop/Reggae Music Group BIMB Family Creates New Sub-Genre "Dub 2.0"

http://mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=180325

From the depths of Brooklyn New York comes a new musical act that's ready to change your perspective of music. BIMB Family is a music group that fuses Hip-Hop and Reggae music to form it's own, new sub genre they appropriately call "Dub 2.0". With a mixture of heavy bass and thought-provoking rhymes, BIMB Family is looking to step into the music industry with a solid footprint.

The group is comprised of rappers Michael K. Success, C-Tons, Dot Henny and Dansample along with producer Selectah Zaragu. Each bring their own flavor of sound to their "Dub 2.0". With over 20 years of creating music they now have honed their collective talents to release a new single, the self-reflective "Steppin' On My Coat". The record combines meaningful lyrics with big bass lines to a pensive rapper, spilling his distraught of how he could've changed for the better.

In addition to "Steppin' On My Coat", BIMB Family is also working on their new single "Grinding On Dirt" that will be released by spring. With more singles yet to be released later in the year, the current tracks that are being released will set the tone for their upcoming album, which will be released later this year.

Breaking into the music industry can be challenging, but BIMB Family is more than ready to overcome adversity with their own brand of creativity and produce an entirely new sound. Their tenacity is their fuel to their sub-genre "Dub 2.0" and it's movement that will surely cause a ruckus within the music community.

CD Release: Monty Alexander 'Uplift 2' JLP

JAZZ LEGACY PRODUCTIONS CD RELEASE: UPLIFT 2 Monty Alexander

Jamaica is known for the undulating sounds of reggae, but it also contributed mightily to the jazz continuum. Dizzy Reese, Ernest Ranglin, and Harry Beckett are from Jamaica, but perhaps the island's best-known jazz export is Monty Alexander, a pianist that's been enthralling jazz fans for decades. Alexander's 2011 album Uplift topped the JazzWeek chart twice that year—and when JazzWeek charted the most-played CDs of the year, Uplift was #5. Between that CD and Harlem-Kingston Express Live, Alexander has officially dominated the US Radio Charts with three # 1 spots, all in the summer of 2011. Harlem-Kingston Express (Motema, also 2011) was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category.

Born in Kingston 1944, the young Alexander took to the 88s as something of a prodigy. One night at age five he had observed a pianist play "White Christmas" in his home at a Christmas party. His mother recalls seeing young Monty playing that same tune with both hands the very next night. At age eight he took classical piano lessons but he'd already began loving the American jazz and Great American songbook pop (Tony Bennett, Nat "King" Cole) he heard on the radio. As a teenager, seeing Nat "King" Cole and Louis Armstrong perform had a major impact upon him. He'd also become interested in Jamaican music—Alexander would play with Clue J & His Blues Blasters, substituting for their regular pianist Aubrey Adams when he became unavailable. While few could conceive of it at the time, this band would prove to be a major watershed in Jamaican music history, incubating the talents of not only Alexander but Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez, and Roland Alphonso, all who'd go on to become prime movers in Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae. By the end of 1961, Alexander's family relocated to that land of opportunity, the USA, where he further honed his skills. While playing with Art Mooney's orchestra in Las Vegas, he was spotted by a couple of high rollers, namely Frank Sinatra and Ermenigildo "Jilly" Rizzo, singer/show business legend and Sinatra's pal/aide and New York City club owner, respectively. Rizzo hired Alexander to be the house pianist for Jilly's Saloon, a notorious hang-out for show biz types, jazz musicians, and assorted other hip clientele. Not only did he accompany Sinatra when he performed at Jilly's, but Alexander met a jazz legend there that became both a friend and employer, vibes master Milt Jackson (of the Modern Jazz Quartet, who had a parallel solo career). Other singers Alexander has shone behind include Mary Stallings, Ernestine Anderson, Natalie Cole (who asked Alexander to accompany her on her tribute album to her father Unforgettable), Tony Bennett, and Bobby McFerrin. Furthermore, he played with ace of the bass Ray Brown and trumpet titans Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry. From the 1970s on, Alexander took the jazz world by storm with a series of internationally well-received albums on the European MPS and American Concord and Telarc labels.

Monty Alexander's distinctive sound emanates from two sources—firstly, he's infused the inspiration of iconic pianists Oscar Peterson, Nat "King" Cole, Ahmad Jamal, and Errol Garner with Jamaican sounds past and present. Secondly, and perhaps most crucially, Alexander indubitably loves what he is doing and he communicates that to listeners in an engaging, infectious manner. Talk about having one's cake and eating it too—Alexander has mastered that concept for the best of both worlds. "I play for me but I also play for the audience…I am even more satisfied when I make people happy." Alexander has no truck with elitist "artistic" notions—while he doesn't pander to listeners, he doesn't place himself "above" them either. "Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong—these artists reached out to the audience." Alexander's latest for Jazz Legacy Productions, Uplift 2—a sequel of sorts to 2011's Uplift—virtually epitomizes his philosophy and approach to jazz gloriously. Reunited with bassist John Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton—with whom he made some of his very best trio recordings in the mid-1970s—Uplift 2 bursts out of the gate with two tunes that, in lesser hands, might come off as corny or clichéd—"Battle Hymn (of the Republic)" and "When the Saints Go Marching In." But to Alexander, this "familiarity" presents an opportunity he relishes. "I like to take old wine and put it into new bottles," he says. "It's not so much the song, but what you do with it." Alexander's trio takes these warhorses and renders them with impishly affectionate humor, invention, and gregarious swing. Clayton and Hamilton are the thunder and wind to Alexander's summertime cloudburst. When asked about the chemistry of this configuration of musicians from long ago—every so often we'd get together"—Alexander affirmed, "We just clicked from the get-go."

Which is not to sleight Alexander's "other" trio on this set, Hassan Shakur on bass and Frits Landesbergen on drums. After a tantalizingly angular intro, this Alexander trio swings the standard "St. Thomas" like it was both the first time and maybe the last time they'd have at it—it's jovial and assertive, breezy and volatile. Ahmad Jamal's "Night Mist Blues" is a panorama—deep noir mood, rippling piano (echoes of McCoy Tyner?), richly pensive blues feeling, Dave Brubeck-like urbanity, restless but almost celebratory reminiscence, and Shakur and Landesbergen support and stimulate like nobody's business.

"At the end of the day," Alexander says, "it's about touching somebody's heart." Uplift 2 succeeds in that spectacularly, while it also takes up residence in the mind (including that region that controls the tapping of your foot). Without fanfare or pretense, Monty Alexander continues to celebrate the aspects of directness and delight in jazz. "It's a joy and a privilege to come out of the gate and get to the point!," says Alexander. Need proof? Listen, learn, and love.

Music Dish Reviews "Toast To The Dads" By KC Jockey

KC Jockey sings a passionate tribute to his own father and all others who are striving to do the right thing. It's a strong single with positive, heartfelt lyrics that will touch any real dad's heart, and make those who are failing for whatever reason rethink their positions and remember the honor that comes with this responsibility. This is such a great message, and like all of KC Jockey's songs, it's set to an up tempo pop/R&B beat infused with reggae that is great for dancing or just listening to. The music is excellent, and as always, I'm impressed by KC Jockey's commitment to all things positive. He doesn't just talk the talk; he walks the walk as well.

Reggae Artist KC Jockey Is Looking For "A Better Jamaica" With New, Free Downloadable Tribute

Karl-Marx Waite of Sweet Sadie's Records announced the release of KC Jockey's new track, "A Better Jamaica." The track is a tribute to the artist's homeland, and one that he hopes will be an anthem for better days ahead. "A Better Jamaica" can be downloaded from KC Jockey's website free of charge, as it is his present to the people of Jamaica and all who love the beautiful country.

According to the CIA World Facebook, "Jamaica is currently plagued with high crime rates and corruption, large scale unemployment and under employment, and the 4th highest debt burden per capita in the world." Other sources state that, "The total life expectancy for Jamaicans has been declining since at least 2004, at which time it was 76. The rate of violence is particularly high in Kingston, and spreading to other areas. That issue is beginning to affect tourism, which accounts for one fifth of Jamaica's GDP with $4 billion/year in revenues." And with the upcoming election, the situation may become even worse.

KC Jockey's "A Better Jamaica" is a promotional track and a smooth groove of a song that has depth and meaning. This song will be added to the artist's album, which will be released soon and include an uplifting new version of the previous "Waiting In Vain" track that was loved and done by: Bob Marley The mid-tempo reggae single is infused with a just a hint of R&B and soul, and bursting with the hope for a new day in KC Jockey's much loved homeland of Jamaica, one without violence, poverty, and hunger. "A Better Jamaica" is a very likeable song which fulfills its purpose of fueling oneness, peace, and love for and between all Jamaicans. KC Jockey has a wonderful voice that greatly accentuates the message of "A Better Jamaica," which is both musically and lyrically strong. The artist seems to be very much driven by causes near and dear to his heart, as his release prior to this one, "Girl, You're Free," addressed domestic violence. "Girl, You're Free," released on August 27th, has been #1 on WXAC 91.3's Urban Charts for a total of 8 weeks, and is still enjoying rotation on other stations. The video will be shot in Atlanta for the new year.

KC Jockey attributes the success of his music to his unique style of combining Pop,R&B,Hip-Hop, and reggae with topics that will have meaning and relevance for a lifetime. "The music I make is timeless and significant, and it's for all ages to listen to. It's deep, and when you have a good sound and a good message, people are drawn to it. Jamaica is my homeland. It's a beautiful place where people from other countries come to relax and enjoy the exquisiteness of it in every sense. It's time now for Jamaicans to be able to embrace each other as the brothers and sisters that we are, and enjoy the country for ourselves, without fear, pain, or violence. We, as a people, will overcome our present circumstances, and we will be better for it in the end. That is the Jamaica that I know and love."

Anguillan born singer-songwriter Jahmings Maccow is presenting his new music video for 'Free The Pain'. The song is available on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/man-redemption/id319093101

Maccow grew up in New York City, where he hooked up and played with various New York bands in The Big Apple. Now based in L.A., one of the the projects that he's planning to embark upon is a world tour that will bring him and his band to Asia by the end of 2010.

His standing against commercialization of the music began in the '80s and it has since then developed into a pure vintage reggae sound, very similar to the music of the Jamaican superstar, Bob Marley. His stories, the way he sings about social issues, love, and pain, are all coming deeply from the heart of a man. His songwriting is not something built to impress; it touches you because of its simplicity and its authenticity.

Review of Paypa Boy's New Hip Hop EP 'Paypa Workz'

"Cop it in Cali,
We get it off in PG,
Got work in the Denali; we in DC,
We got choppers in the city like BG"...

With these lyrics, we are introduced to the artist known as a Paypa Boy. The 5 song EP 'Paypa Workz' consists of five tracks, two of which have radio edits and instrumental versions for a total of nine different ways to listen to this young brother. 'Paypa Workz' includes the singles "Got Work," "Best of Da Best," "Paypa Boy," "Cold Out Here," and "Stay Working."

The anthemic "Got Work" provides the perfect backdrop for Paypa Boy's salvo of punch lines, boasting a knocking baseline and banging hook. The head bobbing beat grabs you immediately and doesn't let go. This is definitely hard core gangster rap. His background ‘dogs' sound like very serious talking Rottweiler's and are in the background barking loud, giving Paypa Boy plenty of flavor.

"They said I'm ignorant
Never going to get a deal
Independent, dropped without a record deal"

"Best of Da Best" is a blend of East Coast rap combined with a dirty South beat. It comes together to form something I really like - a nice groove that will have everybody in the club on their feet. I love the way he uses the big band sound in the middle of the jam. Paypa Boy definitely has a story to tell and he's telling it on this track. Then he adds a little reggae stylie to the beat; part of his very own roots since he was born in Jamaica and moved to Brooklyn at the age of 4. This is my favorite cut from the CD.

"Best of the Best
Greatest of the Great
Jealousy, they hate to see the look upon your face"

"Cold Out Here" finds Paypa Boy and a partner in crime exercising their second amendment rights over a haunting track. It's a very nice infusion of music and vocals that are mixed to provide the background. This is a very cool, mellow jam. Sounds like the national anthem of every homeboy's crew. Paypa Boy complements it with his rap, and his ‘dogs' complement it with their own flavor. Paypa Boy is a solid rapper with a nice voice and a unique style, which is refreshing these days. If New York needed a new rapper to represent, here he is.

"Stay Working" is another winner, with its creative hook:

"I stay working even on my days off
All through the seasons
Even through the playoffs…"

Paypa Boy continues to attest to his hustling abilities:

"Celly never stops ringing
Never have an open line"

Paypa Boy is definitely about the paper in "Stay Working." This is a good riding jam, and you will definitely find yourself getting into the rhythm of it.

The self titled "Paypa Boy" is the EP's only hiccup, with Paypa Boy channeling his inner pimp over a generic sounding beat. All in all, 'Paypa Workz' is solid, and should fuel excitement for a full length album from the promising newcomer.
