My Secret Island To Release "I Miss The Day" Single October 12
My Secret Island is a project which has touched on a variety of musical worlds from the very beginning. The project first received public attention in 2010 with a limited EP called "The First Stories."
http://youtu.be/SoLYLnj5qXs
Featuring an iconic version of the classic "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors. The current single is called "I Miss The Day". Longing and hoping to one day meet the big love, which seems almost out of reach.
The single features three diverting, completely different versions of "I miss the Day". Included as special bonus is the catchy rock cover version of Tommy Roe's "Sheila", a number 1 hit from the 60s. MY SECRET ISLAND is extraordinarily unique.

Review: "Along The River" By Alternative Pop-Rock Musician Doug McCurry
Alternative Pop-Rock musician Doug McCurry's New CD "Romance Like It Was" is 12 tracks of pure delight. Though the album is his first since the 2007 release of "Seven Songs About Leaving" McCurry has most definitely not lost his touch. "Along The River," which is the 4th track on the album, is an inspirational and spiritual song performed in the style of rock and roll. McCurry's voice grabs a hold of you and never lets go as he takes you along for a walk along the river. The track utilizes a very interesting violin and guitar blend, which are excellent for this well arranged track. The use of a choir adds depth and dimension to this jam, moving you spiritually while kept in balance with the vocal style and the excellent musicianship and band. "Along The River" isn't a gospel song, but the message is a spiritual one, and the track is an effort that shows a level of perfection reached by all involved. The unique sound of the band makes the single even that much better, and listeners will mark May 22nd (the date of the CD's release) on their calendars for sure. This is a 'must have' for listeners who want beautiful music with a beautiful message and an authentic and well produced sound.

Eric Taysom, founder of the alternative rock band SoulSpill announced that after a series of auditions, SoulSpill lead guitarist Jesse Michael Howard has been selected as the lead guitarist for Big Kenny's Love Everybody Traveling Musical Medicine Show. The tour began in April 2010 in Nashville, and additional dates are still being booked. Howard will also play the lead guitar on Big Kenny's next album, although details regarding a release date are not yet available.
Big Kenny released his solo album "The Quiet Times Of A Rock And Roll Farm Boy" in November 2009 utilizing studio musicians, but auditioned road musicians to perform with him for the Big Kenny's Love Everybody Traveling Musical Medicine Show tour. Howard made the cut.
Taysom is very pleased with Howard's accomplishment, but it didn't come as a bombshell for him or his fellow group members. He stated, "We're not surprised at all that Jesse was selected. He's a very talented artist who comes from a great musical background."
Howard hails from Colorado as do the other members of SoulSpill, and has performed with many local acts there including Abandanato and The Tyler Ward band. He has produced albums for several artists, and is a producer, writer and front man for SoulSpill, who just released its debut album "Last Mondays Storm" on May 11th. SoulSpill, Storming Colorado's Alternative Rock And Grunge Scene
By Jon Peritz
SoulSpill, a new band hailing from Colorado is poised to storm onto the alternative rock and grunge scene with their debut LP. This five piece group includes Kevin McKinnie singing lead, Eric Taysom playing rhythm guitar and signing backup, Jesse Howard on lead guitar, Josh Corbet on the bass guitar, and Joel Burns smashing the skins.
SoulSpill sounds like a mash-up of Black Sabbath and Pearl Jam. They incorporate heavy guitar riffs and deft high-speed solos into blues infused licks. "It isn't overly heavy nor overly soft," said the band. "It uses a lot of different influences that blend together." The group loves and studies the music of forerunners like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as well as grunge pioneers, Nirvana. This influential range lends a unique sound to SoulSpill. Characteristics of all three of these bands are readily apparent in SoulSpill's music, but there is also something more, a unique tone and image. "[Our] image comes from people listening," said the group in a recent interview, "we just want them to see us in their own way, and that's the image we'll convey."
SoulSpill is full of seasoned musicians with countless gigs under their belt but the band has ceased touring to focus on the record. They have been faced with some major challenges inherent in the music business. When asked what the biggest challenge has been so far, the band agreed that, "this portion of it, trying to get our music out to an audience," has proved the most difficult, but they added: "If you love it and believe in it, never give up on it. Promote yourself with all means available and keep at it." Good advice for any up-and-coming artist. SoulSpill has also been forced to overcome bad advice. They were once told that, "if the music is good, just wait to be discovered." A sure-fire road to failure.
The group is very excited about their first record, their first impression, really on the world. The album is currently being mixed and mastered and is slated to blast off later this month or early next. SoulSpill endeavors to "leave footprints in the musical world," hope to soon play venues like Whiskey A Go Go and the Troubadour. With the musicianship and unique sound like their's, it's doubtful that they will stop there.

Valerie Janlois: Finding Herself In Her Music And The Music In Her Self
Website: http://www.valeriejanlois.com
Music: http://www.fileden.com/files/2010/2/10/2757096//NoDropofLove.mp3
San Francisco, CA pop/jazz singer Valerie Janlois is proud to announce the release of her new album No Drop of Love (Is Ever Wasted). To show her love and support for Transcendental Meditation, Valerie will be donating 20% of all digital and physical album sales to the David Lynch Foundation.
The David Lynch Foundation was established "to ensure that any child in America who wants to learn and practice the Transcendental Meditation program can do so." Valerie is happy to help out such an amazing cause that she believes in with all her heart. "The TM program is the most thoroughly researched and widely practiced program in the world for developing the full creative potential of the brain and mind, improving health, reducing stress, and improving academic outcomes." (DavidLynchFoundation.org)
"Music has always been like a straw into the deepest part of me," says Valerie Janlois. "Even as a child, when I was singing, I was floating on waves of bliss. But when the music stopped I felt cut off...I just wanted to get that feeling back."
Following that bliss, Valerie left her home in Rochester right after her high school graduation and headed for New York City with $30 in her pocket. Living in a low-rent bedsit on the Lower East side, she cut a demo, hustled her songs, wrote every day in a tiny practice room in RCA and learned all she could about the music scene. She put a band together and toured New England, playing for food and gas money.
Then Valerie learned Transcendental Meditation (TM). "Everything changed," she says. "It was an a-ha! moment. Here was a way to find the bliss I felt when I was making music, to begin to live it all the time. That straw into my soul just dissolved into the ocean of life."
So Valerie dove in. She became teacher of TM and spent years teaching hundreds of people how to meditate around the country. But she never left music. She performed a children's opera with members of the New York Philharmonic and periodically recorded demos. Last November, Valerie walked into San Pablo Recorders in Berkeley and recorded "Sara/Miracles" in one take. Recording engineer Bond Bergland looked at her through the control room window and said, "Let's do a record."
Valerie wasn't sure. She had a CD's worth of songs and wanted to put them out. But she was committed to teaching TM, and she knew what kind of time and energy the recording project would take. "There was this cacophony of desires," she says. "But through transcending, I had gained access to that deepest part of me. Everyone has that place inside. And if you can sit and soak up all that silence and order, when you come out and act, you make the right decisions and do the right things."
That's how Valerie got the inner green light to move ahead with the CD. Once she did, a roster of incredible musicians joined the project.
"I've been learning from everybody I'm working with," says Valerie. "The process has certainly had its challenges. Yet it's been so effortless compared to the music I tried to make in the past. Having the music I've written fleshed out this way - made real - has brought me full circle. I'm dipping into the reservoir of inner bliss through music, but much more deeply. Performing live used to be like drawing pure water through a straw in the desert - now the straw is a wide channel. There is so much joy in life, even after the music stops. The connections I'm making with this band are so powerful. I can't wait to perform live with them. And with the CD, I'll have a new and tangible connection with my audience. The album closes the gap between me, them, and the music between us."

"Thorns On A Crown" is by far her most mature work to date. In the current etch and sketch environment of musicians singing to beats generated by machines, it is refreshing to find an artist who wholeheartedly exudes meaning and truth, a feat that only a genuine musician can accomplish. She may be considered a newcomer to the music industry, but there is enough raw passion, talent, and promise on "Thorns On A Crown" to say definitively that Kirsten DeHaan will around for many years to come.
"Thorns On A Crown" Tracklisting:
1) 1984
"1984" skillfully maneuvers its way from beginning to end as DeHaan puts her vocal range along with a knack for soothing tones to good use, singing in a soft, but gutsy manner. The guitar playing over a catchy beat works well with her voice to produce a sultry and graceful fusion of folk and rock.
2) Double Or Nothing
DeHaan produces a well-crafted, solid folk-rock tune with passionate delivery over a foot-tapping guitar melody in "Double Or Nothing." The sharpness of her lyrics and gritty tone gives the song a freshness That will keep any listener engaged, even after multiple plays.
3) The Night Shift
"The Night Shift" delves into the very familiar territory of love as DeHaan's candor and humility together make this song easy to relate to. DeHaan's voice captures the feelings of a woman waiting and thirsting for love. Even the silences between notes seem to shout out her vulnerability.
4) I'm Coming Home
A piercing harmonica complements the delicacy in DeHaan's sweet voice in "I'm Coming Home." The layered sound and musicality gives a classic rock feel that is emphasized by the 'call and response' between DeHaan and the harmonica.
5) Ms. Daisy
"Ms. Daisy" builds a sweet melody around the idea of hope. Initially, the song seems inconspicuous and gentle, but DeHaan's voice is so melodious and colorful, it quickly works its way into the listener's heart and soul.
About Kirsten DeHaan
Kirsten DeHaan is a true jack of all musical trades. Not just a talented singer/songwriter and guitarist, she promotes her music via her label SirLady Records, does various philanthropic work for American soldiers in the Middle East, and is a strong and active proponent of the New York indie music scene.
DeHaan stomped onto the indie music scene to rave reviews in 2004 with her first album release "Conform." Critics compared her music to that of Nirvana, U2, and Belly. Her music has been downloaded over 1 million times via various peer-to-peer sites and featured on the hit reality shows Made and My Super Sweet Sixteen. Declaring "Conform" to be one of the most popular records next to the Killers and Ashlee Simpson by FreshFarmMusic.com, DeHaan was among five artists chosen for Men's Vogue/Hennessey Flaunt Your Taste Critics Choice Awards.

Polarity/1's "Plunder": A Song for Our Times (Free MP3)
Download Free MP3 Of Polarity/1's "Plunder"
The appropriately titled "Plunder" begins with a Bernie Madoff impersonator admitting to the now infamous ponzi scheme, which has since led to a 150 year prison sentence. As the song progresses, clips from this speech are cleverly inserted throughout the verses. The production is fantastic, and although its certainly not organic in nature, the horns and funky bass line keep it grounded, and prevent it from becoming just a jumble of computer loops. With clever lines like "easy credit, easy crime, American dream, death by subprime," Plunder succeeds in portraying the current dismal economic picture. However, despite the grim nature of the lyrics, the track is ironically upbeat, and in the end, it makes you want to dance, even though the subject matter is nothing worth celebrating.
- Will Cohn, MusicDish e-Journal
"Plunder" can be heard in the upcoming documentary by the same name, directed by Danny Schechter. Nicknamed "The News Dissector", Emmy Award winning Schechter investigates the economic downturn and subprime mortgage crisis. Polarity/1 contributes two songs to the film, and even makes a brief cameo appearance. Watch the teaser trailer for Danny Schechter's 'Plunder' documentary.
The music of Polarity/1 is exactly what the name suggests: conjoined opposites -- a mash up of new: cutting edge electronica/hip hop/nu-jazz and old; roots music of America (blues, funk, country, early jazz), Brazil (samba, pagoda, etc.) and West African groove science. Polarity also describes the dual streams of Polarity/1's musical output: songs and instrumentals.

Music From Polarity/1 Featured In "Plunder," An Upcoming Documentary by Danny Schechter
The music of Polarity/1 can be heard in the upcoming documentary "Plunder," directed by Danny Schechter. Nicknamed "The News Dissector", Emmy Award winning Schechter investigates the economic downturn and subprime mortgage crisis. Polarity/1 contributes two songs to the film, and even makes a brief cameo appearance.
Watch the teaser trailer for Danny Schechter's 'Plunder' documentary
The first song that Polarity/1 contributes is the title track to the film. "Plunder" has a funky feel with slap bass, a strong horn section, and creative lyrics. In the beginning of the song, a Bernie Madoff impersonator admits to his crimes. Then, the rap comes in which describes how "greed is the creed, drug of choice" and touches on almost every aspect of the financial crisis; credit swamp, subprime mortgages, 401k's, and of course Bernie Madoff himself. Throughout the song, the horns have a call and response with the melody of the lyrics.

The other track, entitled "Home Sweet Home" describes the meaning of feeling at home. Whether its religion, family, or friends, everyone has their own passion that makes them feel at home, and this song describes that feeling. In addition, Polarity/1 makes a physical appearance in the film, and gives his take on the economic crisis.
Listen to & download Polarity/1's "Home Sweet Home"
Polarity/1 previously contributed two songs to Plunder's prequel "In Debt We Trust," including "Free Money" and "I'm So Broke."

"Polar succeeds in his mission of forcing you to pay attention and not lull into the sounds you 'expect' to hear," noted StarPolish.com. Juniper's Ron And Lisa Potter Announce Immediate Release Of New CD, Crazy Love
The new CD "Crazy Love" from Florida-based duo Juniper, is now available for purchase on the internet at itunes and amazon in addition to other selected sites.
The Crazy Love CD is a good reflection of music that comes from within. The vocals, performed by Lisa, create a sultry yet powerful sauce of sass and sex. "Lisa's performance is unique to each song," adds Eve Adams of ACM Records, Inc., their publisher and label. "Each song has its own voice and delivers a genuine experience."
Juniper vows that the Crazy Love project will turn you on to their music! Songs like "You Rock My World" and "Crazy Love" could certainly help keep everyone active. "Well, it works for the private workouts too!" Ron says with a grin, "I personally test each song before release into the wild." Songs like "Run Away" and "This Is My Job" feature a dreamy piano, while "Without You" and "Rejected" sure make it fun to tell someone off!
While Ron and Lisa would say they relate to the common folk, it's evident they both have a bent for the crazy. Catsask.com recently reviewed the new CD and had this to say: "Looking to stand apart from the crowd, Juniper has hit the mark. Unique in their Alt-pop, Industrial groove genre, they've developed a sound that can be definitely called their own. Completely self produced Juniper is the real deal. Indie to the end!"

MusicDishTV: IXTHEIS - Alles Meres
IXTHEIS is Greek rock/alternative band who made their musical breakthrough opening the Reamonn concert Thessaloniki. They followed that with their debut release "Einai Polla Ta Lefta..." in 2007. The video for song "Alles meres" (Other Days) speaks of how the losing of childhood innocence is killing hope. IXTHEIS tells us to stay in touch with the 'child in all of us' and look to the future for brighter days. www.ixtheis.gr
"Kai perimeno alles meres /
otan tha fygi to skotadi /
kati tha dihni na allazi /
kai tha 'houn hroma i skies"
"and I'm waiting for other days /
when the darkness will be gone /
something will seem to be changing /
and the shades will be coloured"

Rock Music, w/ An Operatic, Theatrical Twist
| Get this player from Fairtilizer! |
San Franciscan Andrea Plamondon's single "I Still Remember" (featuring Joy FM) brings us guitar's riffs with a chasing rhythm in a bluegrass/experimental style. Despite her musical background as a classically trained opera singer, Andrea demonstrates her intense attachment to rock music, having spent the last two decades performing with some of the most accomplished rock bands in the Bay Area. The song, while having it's roots in garage and underground scenes, keeps true to its musicality. This is especially the case for the drum line, with it's fantastic breaks that give you the false perception that it is not constantly on time. This song chases you, keeping you pleasantly involved. An intense sound with innocently, wonderful vocals makes this track a powerful piece of rock music with a very refined taste.

Andrea Plamondon - Rock Tigress Unleashed
What do you get when you take a classically trained opera singer with a zest for creativity and innovation and nearly 20 years of experience in the industry, and cross her with some of the best alternative San Francisco rock bands ever to grace the Bay Area? You get Andrea Plamondon, that's what.
With the long-awaited release of "I Still Remember", a collection of recordings from her years with various San Franciscan bands since 1989, and the accompanying single "No More Silence", Plamondon announces her arrival to the wider world.
And one listen to the amazing vocal stylings on this 14 track hour-long offering makes it clear that we are dealing with a rare musical talent.
Plamondon's voice has an incredible three octave range, and she is certainly not afraid of showing it off on this record. But there is so much more here than just a great vocal performance. Plamondon chooses for her bandmates some of the best, most inventive musicians around, and the sound they create together is that of the avant garde breaking out of its underground lair.
This is rock music, with an operatic, theatrical twist. It is little wonder, therefore, that Plamondon has been compared to luminaries such as Kate Bush, Siouxie Sioux and Toyah Wilcox. But her constant thirst for the new makes her so much more.
This is a performer who has written stage musicals, who at 22 was told her voice was good enough for the Met, who has not only achieved excellence as an opera singer, but has studied Turkish and Middle Eastern music as well. All the time, while performing with some of the most accomplished rock bands across almost every notable venue in San Francisco.
Plamondon's life and music has also been touched by tragedy. Her brother, a gifted singer and performer in his own right, committed suicide at the age of 21, and the pain is evident in much of his sister's work.
All of this is why "I Still Remember" is such an incredible, varied and surprising record. From the lament of "Chant of the Flower" to the sprawling rock opera that is "The Great Doubt", there is something here for every discerning music fan.
But the new single, "No More Silence" showcases Plamondon's talents as well as any track here. It is an incendiary call to arms, as well as a cry for help. It is stirring and life-affirming. As all Plamondon's work is, and as all great music should be.
"I Still Remember" is out now on CD Baby, and "No More Silence" is available on Itunes and Napster.
