MarilynMusic Welcomes You To A Creative And Fruitful 2015

http://mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=180679

Latest recording projects include three new tracks featuring Australian top ten singer songwriter Thom Crawford. "No Reason No Rhyme," "Smoke and Mirrors," and "Just Say Yes" are all available on MarilynMusic.net.

"It's been a privilege to work with and feature Sony recording artist Sera Burus, whom Michael Bolton has called the best singer he's ever heard," said MarilynMusics' Casey Conrad from The Vertical Room studio in NYC. "You Loved Me Best" is a powerful pop country crossover."It's the perfect match for Sera's incredible vocal chops," Conrad explained.

A unique opportunity to create a "State song" for California was the genesis of "Golden State," a rock anthem that evokes the power of Springsteen and Seger. Showcasing the talents of NYC based studio legend and Blues Brother's lead singer Jonny Rosch, the song is like a trip along the California coast including a cool homage to the Beach Boys.

Continuing a longstanding working relationship with New York producer/writer Gary Haase, Conrad is currently in the studio using his engineering and mixing skills on projects for various artists including Paul Mcartney and Chaka Khan.

MarilynMusics' Michael Gaines is busy in L.A. writing songs while also working on several film endeavors including "The Auctioneer," a drama set in the early 60's dealing with the seamy underbelly of the auction business.

Gaines and Conrad remain committed to their belief in the power of music to affect positive change.

After "Chillin" At Coachella, And Meetings On The Paramount Lot MarilynMusic Heads Back To NYC To Work On Their Ever Expanding Catalogue

MarilynMusic's Michael Gaines and Casey Conrad braved crowds of over one hundred thousand people and one hundred seven degree desert sun to experience the unique three day music marathon, known as Coachella 2012. "We felt right at home during the entire 3 days, surrounded by nonstop music and an endless parade of partying people." said Gaines. "It's was like an amusement park but instead of rides there's great music," observed Conrad, who flew in from New York. Conrad's trip also included meetings on the Paramount lot with legendary producer Gene Kirkwood, ("Rocky," "Pope of Greenwich Village,") to discuss an upcoming film project with MarilynMusic. "It's great to be involved with Gene again whom I've learned a great deal from having worked on several of his pictures. Gene understands the crucial link between music and film, and has expressed great confidence in what MarilynMusic has to offer the movie business." said Gaines. Back at MarilynMusic's NYC studio The Vertical Room, Conrad is busy finishing the mix on a new track titled "Be My Muse" featuring singer songwriter Zane Carney. He's also lead guitarist for the broadway show "Spiderman Turn Off The Dark", as well as the band "Carney" with his brother Reeve who happens to also star as Spiderman. "Zane is a great guitar player and singer we've worked with before and we're excited to feature his voice on our tunes," commented Conrad. MarilynMusic's Casey Conrad is also in the middle of producing an album for singer/songwriter Joanne Perica. A close friend and collaborator on numerous tunes, Perica recently completed the song "Bones" with Sony/ATV artist Thom Crawford, produced by Sacha Skarbek, (Adele,Train, Jason Mraz) and featured in an upcoming film Called "For No Good Reason" with Johnny Depp. "Joanne's record is a strong emotional statement, we're taking our time exploring several musical genres and it will be well worth the wait," said Conrad." There are some very talented musicians on this record including Gary Haase, Karen Cole, Jeff Mironov, Zane Carney, Phil Hamilton... There may also be some truly great guest stars featured. Names discussed include singer/songwriting juggernaut Sera Burus, (recently signed to Sony by L.A. Reid). Perica's record is due out in the fall. MarilynMusic's Michael Gaines is back in NYC to continue his collaboration with Conrad on their ever expanding song catalogue. They also recently got together with good friend and colleague, well respected writer/prod Gary Haase and made a licensing agreement to offer a significant selection of tracks from Haase's catalogue on MarilynMusic.net. "We're excited to have a talent of Gary's caliber associated with MarilynMusic." Gaines concluded.

MarilynMusic Collaborates With Rising Stars And Established Names

MarilynMusic's Casey Conrad answers the phone from his studio, The Vertical Room on the Upper East Side of NYC on a cool Friday afternoon. He is present, but his voice sounds almost far away. It is apparent that his focus is on tracks to be produced. He says he's excited to talk about them, but even more so to get off the phone and get back to work. He has a lot on his plate, including collaborations with rising stars like Sera Buras of NBC's 'The Voice', to more established names like Michael Bolton. Conrad has worked with many names in the business, and is always looking to work with new talent.

Although hesitant to talk about his creative process, stating "it's too mysterious for me to try to put into words," he's nevertheless excited to talk about a new track that MarilynMusic just released on iTunes called "Jump". "I co-wrote it with Michael Gaines, a lifelong friend and my business partner in MarilynMusic. We grew up playing music together and both feel very fortunate to have this gift," he told me.

The energetic pop dance tune features artist Wallace Gary, who has worked for many years with Ashford and Simpson. Nick Ashford was one of Conrad's songwriting idols and will be "sorely missed for his beautiful songs and his gentle heart."

Conrad is currently producing a track for Michael Bolton which was co-written by Joanne Perica, a Canadian singer-songwriter and frequent collaborator. The track features guitarist Phil Hamilton (Luther Vandross etc...).

"Joanne Perica has been a co-producer, co-writer, colleague, and most of all a friend," Conrad explains. Their close professional relationship has lead to many great projects including other tracks with Bolton.

They are also in the early stages of a new album for Perica that will have a pop-rock influence. To this end they've enlisted the talents of guitarist Zane Carney of 'Carney' (the house band of Broadway's 'Spiderman Turn off the Dark'.) "He's a very talented guy and very prolific in his abilities. Great chops, good all around pro... he has some great stories and I enjoy working with him," Conrad says of the young guitarist. They also added Carney's "chops" to an urban dance track called 'Fearless', co-written with Perica and new artist Sage, which should be released shortly.

When asked about other projects, he said he's mixing world famous jazz pop guitarist David Spinoza's new album. Spinoza is a well respected studio artist who's played on over 4,000 recordings. The team for this record, which is being produced by old friend Gary Haase (also playing bass), includes David Mann on sax, Cliff Carter on keyboards, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, and Conrad on percussion.

Recording artist Sera Buras has also co-written and recorded a track produced by Conrad at his Vertical Room studio called 'By Your Side' that is moving along swiftly.

"Sera has been working on evolving her style and has gotten to a place where her talent as a piano player as well as a singer is being highlighted," Conrad states. "She has a gospel background, she plays amazing organ... but maybe her greatest strength is her traditional roots... that is what's being discussed...there will definitely be an interesting range."

MarilynMusic is rooted in the quality of music made, and of sounds produced when artists collaborate with equal vision. Casey Conrad along with MarilynMusic partner and co-writer Michael Gaines is at the center of it all. No wonder he can't wait to get back to work.

A major strength of music publisher MarilynMusic is their combined experience in film and TV as well as music industry. Based in Los Angeles, Michael Gaines has been working several film projects from developing screen play with a young Oscar-nominated director about young girls soccer team in Hollywood, to pitching a new project for internet and TV he co-executive produced with actor and film director Bill Paxton.

Several of Michael's projects center on social issues affecting American communities across the country. He recently wrote a song on the BP oil spill called "Black Wave Coming" which is slated to be released in the fall. He's also been hard at work on a new script based on a true story centered around the village of Hastings-on-Hudson in New York state. The script tells the story of Buck van Deer, a Hastings resident who launched a one-man war against government and bureaucracy to stop the proposed culling of the local deer population. Inside MarilynMusic: Meet Michael Gaines

By Michele Wilson-Morris
(more articles from this author)

MarilynMusic, made of up songwriting duo Casey Conrad and Michael Gaines, currently has numerous wonderful, but unreleased tracks under its belt. With everything from teasing, taunting dance tracks to deeply heartfelt ballads, MarilynMusic's songs come in just about every genre you can think of from pop to reggae, R&B to country, and more. The music certainly has a story to tell, and so do the two men behind it. They each draw inspiration from a lifetime spent in the music and entertainment industry that began in early childhood. Between the two of them, they have worked in every aspect of the entertainment industry including television, film, off Broadway shows, and playing studio sessions. In recent years, however, Conrad and Gaines shifted their focus to composing and producing music, and the results are astounding. In Part I of my article on MarilynMusic, it's my pleasure to introduce you to Michael Gaines.

Music press kitsQuantcast

Michael Gaines' entire family, it seems, is or was involved in the music industry in one way or another. Gaines had two very successful song writing uncles, and a grandfather who owned one of the first recording studios in New York City. His mother was a New York session singer and contractor for over 30 years. She was Burt Bacharach's vocal director for many years, singing on all of his major recordings. Over the course of his life, he has participated in practically every conceivable part of the entertainment industry and he started early. He began studying dance at age five, performed at age seven at the Carnegie Recital Hall, and attended the American School of Ballet, appearing as the prince in the NYC Ballet production of the Nutcracker at twelve. He also performed in numerous television commercials, shows and voiceovers. Gaines' earliest memory of performing in a TV commercial was the first Kit Kat commercial ever aired. He was seven. He also modeled for various magazines including Harper's Bazaar.

"I guess I've been in show business since before I was born," said Gaines. "I literally grew up in the many recording and television studios of New York mostly waiting for my mother or often working myself. My father also had an extensive career as a producer/actor/writer."

Gaines went on to study music through high school, then at North Texas State and later the Manhattan School of Music in 1973 and 1974. After school, he followed his family to LA to try his hand in the film industry. He began as a production assistant at Chartoff / Winkler Films and worked on movies like Raging Bull, Rocky 2 and The Right Stuff. Gaines moved up in the ranks, securing a position as story editor for Koch/Kirkwood Productions working on "The Pope of Greenwich Village" and eventually began writing and selling his own film and TV projects to studios like Fox, Paramount and Warner Bros. Gaines recently co-produced the film "Wednesday Again" and is an Executive Producer of a pilot currently being set up both on the internet, and cable television. He also plans to produce the film "The Auctioneer" soon.

During his career, Gaines has worked with legendary stars like Merv Griffin, Juliet Prowse, George Balanchine, Robert Deniro, Mickey Rourke and many others. But despite his success in film and television, music was always his first calling. He became very close to his stepfather (his mother's second husband) songwriter/producer Bob Wells, who taught him about music publishing. When Wells became ill, he entrusted his extensive, very successful catalog to Gaines and left the catalog to the Gaines family when he passed away in 1999, which allowed him to pursue a career writing music.

Addressing where his inspiration comes from, he says, "I had a teacher who was a great influence on me who said that if you wait for inspiration when writing or creating anything, you might wait a very long time. He said one must sit down and do the work. I heard that Woody Allen starts writing at six o'clock in the morning and sits there until at least ten even if nothing comes out. I'm a musician, I'm not up at six a.m., but I understand the commitment. I feel that talking about the creative process or trying to capture it in words is a waste of time because it's so intangible to begin with. But I will say that New York City is a place that's inspirational to me. There are more interesting things and people on one block in New York City than in a ten mile radius anywhere else."

When asked what the worst advice was he'd ever been given, he responds "All of the advice has been good as long as I was smart enough not to take it all. What I'm focused on now is happiness, health, making more music, doing good deeds and good work in the future."
